So I got my elgato capture card earlier today, and I started doing an LP of Legend of Dragoon. I figured my first LP would be something I know best. And I know it's not perfect for a first-timer, but in that sense, nothing is really perfect. Either way, in the past almost 5 hours, I have messed up so much trying to record one thing. In fact, I just recorded an hour worth of material....only to find out I wasn't recording it. And I already saved over the file I had on back-up in case it happened for something else...so now I must start over to show it again. Only just starting and having issues. This is going to be fun....

What does that even have to do with YouTube?

I think it means the pains it takes to upload something to youtube

Yeah... don't start with an RPG. Do something short, because if something goes horribly wrong at any point in an RPG, that REALLY sucks

It's not like it's impossible. The first game I fully recorded was KH1. But it's way worse if something goes wrong, and when you're new things are more likely to go wrong

Kinda difficult since all the games i own are RPGs XD. But I can only do console games right now, since i have no way to record on my DS, which has a much wider variety of games.

Do you have a decent PC? I use Desmume to record DS games myself
I guess you're stuck with RPGs... I suggest making multipel save files, if you can, so you can go back if you need to

I don't emulate anymore. If I'm going to make LPs, I'd rather do it with an official game....that and the games don't come out perfectly with them sometimes. And I know if a way, but I'm just waiting till I either get the money, or the guy is able to do 3DS XL

    >Person wants to do LP's
    >What does that have to do with YouTube

Most LP's are either done live on Twitch, or recorded and then edited and uploaded to YouTube. Since the OP talked about recording, I'm making the assumption that the content is in fact NOT being streamed live via Twitch and is actually being recorded, edited and uploaded to YouTube.

Basically. Though I'm going to just do a full on record of the beginning to where i am now, and just edit into parts later and be done with it. Can't say my editing will be as professional as others, but since i'm just starting out, that's kind of to be expected

    This.

It can be hella pretty and **** but without an interesting host you'll lose most people within the first 30 seconds to a minute.

Yeah that's one thing that's slightly confusing about the Elgato software, the recording button honestly looks like it's recording whether you press it or not (because of the flashback recording but that's only like 30 minutes or something). If you need any help / have questions about the software feel free to ask since I use it. There's also a looooot of videos on YT to help you because of Elgato's awesome partnership program.

30 seconds is pretty generous to be honest, and considering most people will be getting complete shit when it comes to numbers at first you have no choice but to be entertaining.

30 seconds is the average. Assuming you're not completely awful people tend to wait a little longer

Youtube is not the only video hosting site. It's the only one that matters, but why should that mean anything?

That's only the case if you care about popularity / attention, or money.
