Saw it today, and I gotta say, it was pretty damn amazing. Doesn't follow a specific book, but the way it's done is very good and follows the pattern that Doyle wrote in. And Downey Jr. makes a good Holmes. I'd say everyone was cast well, and the effects were well done too. All in all, I'd recommend seeing it if you like a good plot, fight scenes that aren't overdone, and humor that's not out of place. Only slight downside is that it's a bit on the long side, but to be honest I didn't think it was that bad. Plus Spoiler the fact that Moriarty is in the movie - though not mentioned by name until the end - and is pretty much set up for being the main "bad guy" in a (very) possible sequel was a good addition.
I wanna see this so bad D: The ads look brilliant. I dunno when it's out in the UK though :c I think it's Boxing day. Hmmmm...
"very possible"? I don't think so, thats a definate. I've never read the books but the movie was good. I liked when he slowed down time in his head and thought out his every move and then executed them with immense pricision.
When are we going to get more original stories again rather than more sequels, adaptations, sequels to adaptations, remakes, stories that have been done to death a million times...? I don't want to see more Sherlock Holmes or more awful superhero adaptations or sequels, I want to see new characters.
Well...providing that it does well and that the movie industry doesn't lose money, I'd say yes. It's set up, so they can pick it up when they want to. It is an original story. And I don't believe there's ever been a Sherlock Holmes movie (though I may be wrong), and if there is this is the first one in many years. Lord Blackwood is an original character. You should read about or see movies before you whine about things. c:
It doesn't matter how long it's been, it's still based on a popular series/character. And I have more enjoyable things to do than sit through movies like these so I could have the right to tell whether or not it's just another addition to what is probaly the worst decade for movies so far (besides Sita Sings the Blues, there is absolutely nothing in this decade, be it animation or live-action, that has any merit beyond cool special effects).
My mum and i are dying to see it (both very big fans of the series). I've heard it has many good reviews and that the cast are fantastic. I couldn't really care if it didn't follow an existing case, since any remakes of cases usually don't follow the original perfectly. It'll be nice to see a new one.
I think you'll enjoy it then, I was pretty much looking for the same thing. xD Only thing I found a bit difficult was the dialouge, sometime I couldn't quite keep up, but then again I'm just an American. :B Good thing about the movie is that I have a feeling the interest in Sherlock Holmes will spike, and it will bring more of this generation to read the original cases. In fact, I bought The Hound of Baskervilles today because of it.
Must be an American thing since i understand it fine. xD That or because an American is playing an Englishman...crazy, just crazy. xD Hopefully it will. Sherlock Holmes is a fantastic read, easily one of the best, if not the best, for murder mystery plots. The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of my favourites! Wrote my 3rd year book report on that. xDD
Saw the movie yesterday. Or the day before. I forgot. Either way, I loved the movie. I didn't notice that it was long since I really did like it. I was constantly comparing the Sherlock in this movie to other "detectives" from shows like Monk and Psych...Sherlock wins in just about every way. XD I'm glad the movie wasn't as funny as the commercials otherwise I wouldn't have taken it seriously.
Saw it yesterday. If there's one thing that does not mix with Sherlock Holmes, it's extreme slo-mo fighting and CGI explosions... At least it was shorter than Avatar.
You know...You don't have to see a movie when you don't feel like it or know you're not going to like it.
Back on the actual topic, He plays an Englishman very well, though. xD GO SEE THIS MOVIE KITTY. Yeah, I didn't either, though my parents thought it was too long. xD There were "funny" parts, but it was well-balanced with the actual detective work and Sherlock Holmes in general.
I really want to see this......it looks brilliant. They should also make a movie where Sherlock Holmes is a kid solving problems...similar plot to Eye of the Crow(A Sherlock Holmes book, where Sherlock is a kid.)
I saw this last Wednesday (YAY ORANGE WEDNESDAY!) and i quite enjoyed it. I thought it was awsome how Holmes used his deduction skills during fights. The fights themselves were very entertaining, funny in a lot of cases. xD The cast was nicely choosen - Robert Downey Jr made an excellent Holmes in his own right (Though, he could never be better than Jeremy Brett in the series). Though, i know what you mean, Wolfie, it was sometimes hard to make out what Robert Downey Jr was saying. It's worth a see. Especially since there's gonna be a sequal. I can't wait to see how they'll play Moriarty.
I still haven't seen this yet, I can't believe it. Might as well wait until the DVD comes out. Who did you think was the best actor?
