This is kinda low in terms of self respect, but making it a crime is over the top. Yes, I know a few people who sext, but they do it over a long distance relationship. I can think that that's okay because you never get to see the person, but if the person you're dating is within a few miles of you, then it's really kinda stupid. Mainly because they just want to "advance" their relationship in a step that's fast paced.

Oh god... I hate what people have done to the glourious world of texting(*is a texting addict, well sorta*). And wouldn'tchaknow? A group of kids at meh school were suspended a few days a go for Sexting in class. I don't know about you, but I think that's some pretty lame s***.

I think that it's only wrong if you're underage, as you said. Jail time seems to be a bit much to me, but a fine should definitely be put into place. Just because it's your body doesn't mean that you're mature enough to know what's best to do with it.

yeah youre right, little tana_panda. i mean, i LOVE "sexting" with my boyfriend, but im over 18 and so is he so its okay. there are so many ppl here that dont understand that if theyre 18 or older ITS OKAY TO DO. no blame is put on anyone but themselves at that point because its their own decision.

Why would you even sext in class anyway? You would think you would want to do it somewhere private so you can... enjoy it more. As long as you and the person in the picture are legal, of course.

I think the girl deserved some punishment, but the jail thing seems kind of extreme to me. She'll probably end up having it worse for years to come as the picture gets distributed around and she gets a stupid rep that she will have to live with until she can move on out of school. I wouldn't blame the schools for this behavior and well, probably not parents either in most circumstances. Teenagers just do things. We all know it. xD

It -is- child pornography though and well, if she doesn't care about her own safety, someone else has to. She's showing that she's immature. I have no idea why kids, or adults for that matter, want to send naked pictures of themselves out to others anyway really because the moment someone gets mad at you, what do they do with the pic? They post it up somewhere with nasty comments so that others can see and it tends to get around so that everyone thinks bad things about the person. There's a smaller chance that it will also attract some idiots who will then go to plaguing the person who took the pic. Would you post a nude pic on your school wall? Probably not because everyone would think you were trampish and stupid. So kids shouldn't be sending naked pics of themselves to others over a phone either or computer for that matter.

In the end, to send a picture like that is to risk a lot in self-respect and just causes pain. I could really care less if an adult does it, though when I hear them whine because suddenly the naked pic is up for the world to see, I laugh at them. Some people like to show off their bodies so the repercussions to them don't matter and that's all fine. It's their choice and they can live with it because they either don't care or they don't want to think of things until after they've done them. However, will a young teenager know the repercussions? Probably not so keenly as adults don't tend to tell them what those can be, so I have a bit more mercy on them. It's a mistake to do that can hurt the kid for some while. So teens should be told that sending pics of themselves naked can lead to embarrassment, harassment, sexual predators, and just it's a mistake that is likely not able to be undone or forgotten about for some time. Maybe the image of some 50 year old guy at a computer jerking off to a teen's pic found online might shake some reality into some people.

An issue is that teenagers think that they're mature enough to know what to do with their own bodies, when really they have no idea of the reprecussions. The teens that do this must have very little forethought to think that it will never come up again, but adults also have that problem. The real question is: When are you mature enough to know what to do with your body?

That's what the age of consent laws exist for. It is presumed that, if you are under 18 (or 16 in some places or with parental consent), you are too immature for sex and for showing off your body. The same should aply to sexting.

Yes, childofturin is right, if you are underage, you are to young to be having sex and sexting has an even worse rebound than just having sex, because everyone could wind up seeing your pic. and calling you a s*** and other other names that could drive you to suicide, and you don't have the jurisdiction to handle hat sort of thing.

There are better ways to show your spouse some "pleasurable moments" other than giving them evidence if you break up...

This just surfaced and became a big problem?

How blind are people, as SOON as they put camera's on phones and able to put them in text messeges, people started doing this. It's stupid that they are making it such a big deal now.

Also, the person sending the nude picture of themselves or of someone should know what would happen eventually. The person in the picture in the long run will get hurt in some form or another. So they would have to really THINK about sending it before they do anything

After that, if they do send it, there is no turning back.

I agree completely, some people (the ones who are doing it) are getting caught and when THEY get into trouble, they complain and say that it isn't fair, "it was supposed to be harmless." It is their fault, there are federal laws that protects and punishes the people who are doing this, and if you get caught, you could be put on the registered sex offender list for 25 years, and not get into college or go to jail... Sorry, i have a strong opinion about this subject...

I don't see anything wrong with this, actually. It's the own persons choice. If they want to send out naked pictures of themselves then that's their personal business. It's just one of those things parent's may have to be weary of.

It's not like people haven't done it before. They have. It's just that some parent's find out, make a big deal out of it and blame other people and then it gets blown out of proportion. It's stupid.

If you're going to make that illegal then why not live porn webcaming? Why not taking naked pictures of yourself with a digital camera and sending pictures over the web that way? Stuff like that. It's nothing new.

So if an adult sends nude pics of himself to a 12-year-old it's all good because it's his body?

If you're going to approve of that, then why not legalize streaking and exhibitionism everywhere?
    Just for a laugh.

EDIT: Apparently this topic is mainly about teenagers. Never mind. My point still stands.

    That's a completely different matter.

How often do you see people streaking, though? I'm saying that the things I listed before are things that happen often, everyday. Teenagers do that kind of stuff a lot.

I agree there. It definitely has been done a lot, so I don't really see why jail should be the offense, y'know? For teens, I mean. Adults, as Pop Tart said, is a totally different matter.
