thought of this today while driving to work in the rain on the paved death trap known as i-95. its crazy out there
Apparently, they were all in one SUV returning from a family reunion. Several were not wearing seatbelts and the two year old toddler was not fastened in; it was on someone's lap. The SUV hit the rumble strips, blowing out two tires, and sending the SUV across the road into a culvert, where it caught fire.
Seat belts are SO important and people just forget about them. Especially for the toddler, it breaks my heart that they didn't even have the poor child strapped in. It's a terrible thing to happen but I do hope the ones that survived learned to use seat belts.
this happened in 2015? and not 1965 with a ford squire station wagon? seriously what the heck are there people who still don't wear seatbelts? and putting a child on your lap? how disgustingly irresponsible
This. I feel the same way about people who text and drive. It is not so important it can't wait for you to pull over. No ones life is worth less then a text message.
Yerp a seatbelt saved my life. Rolled three times and when I regained consciousness, I was upside down. Sucks that I need pain treatment every three months and am on anti seizure medication, but hey I am still living and I am damn thankful for that.
Friendly reminder that Mythbusters proved that using a phone while driving is worse than driving drunk.
I am currently learning to drive... this stuff terrifies me senseless. There is nothing cool about using a phone or drinking and driving or not wearing a seatbelt. Why is being safe not cool?
A think a better question would be "why is being 'cool' relevant?" That being said I agree. There is no reason to make driving anymore unsafe than it already is.
It's horrible when events like these happen, it is very sad that it did occur, although I think it is just awful that they never used seatbelts, especially the fact that they did not use seatbelts on the young children. I have to agree that just like drinking and driving and texting and driving it is extremely irresponsible.
All you can do is control your own driving. Play some call of duty, improve your hand eye coordination, and just mentally prepare yourself for what to do if an accident does happen. It gets easier the more you drive. I've been driving for almost five years and never been in an accident. Airplane mode is the way to go.
I totally agree with that, the only thing about being 'cool' was so that more people would actually do it as that can be one of the reasons people don't wear seatbelts or do drink and drive. It's not the only reason of course. Yeah, I've only had one lesson but it weirds me out to think that all the gear changing will one day become second nature.
I' ve known a few people who didn' t like putting their seat belt (that was back when the law still left us a choice), being cool had nothing to do with it. They just didn' t like the constrictive sensation and didn' t see the point when they remained at low city speeds. I guess they hadn' t heard yet that even at 50 km/h a frontal shock is the equivalent of jumping head first from the third floor. In some scenarios your seat belt can kill you, that' s how I lost the best friend I' ve ever had, though go figure if he would have survived otherwise. Statistically speaking you' re still better off keeping it. It saved my life half a dozen times.
