Alright, I don't know about you, but this is a bit extreme...

I have to think this case will get thrown out. If it doesn't though I have to ask if it is a crime then to predict an earthquake that doesn't come? Because if it isn't what ths will lead to is them sounding the alarm at every blip until no one cares anymore making everything more dangerous.

Like the professor in that quote said. We're still far away from having this down to a near-perfect science. Even if it goes to court, nothing will happen to those scientists unless it's shown that they were doing something completely stupid like drinking on the job or just doing their procedures wrong. <<

It's more than just a bit extreme. It's insane. Nobody can tell when an earthquake is coming until it does.

I just hope that this case doesn't go too far. If it does then I wish these guys the best in all this craziness...

lol, this'll 8e rejected. Failing to act due to lack of a8ility in these situ8ions is not a crime. The only way it could 8e manslaughter would 8e if they undou8tedly knew that there was going to 8e a quake (not an exact science) and they chose not to tell anyone. That seems to 8e far from the case here, so I expect it to 8e rejected.

I can understand if they were deliberately withholding information or they weren't doing their jobs but if not then that is just silly. It's like the people who keep predicting the end of the world, no one actually knows when it will happen and you can't arrest them for trying. However, it's as Mixt said- if they were to alert everyone to evacuate on every alarm then it would be like the boy who cried wolf, eventually no one would care, it would be too much hassle and then people who decided not to heed the warnings may suffer for it later. I don't know if we'll ever be able to predict an earthquake completely, I do hope so though and so if this case does go ahead then we really need to reevaluate our justice system.

That is one of the worst reasons to try someone for manslaughter. It won't last long, I don't think. Surely someone is going to point out the flaw of how we can't tell anything about earthquakes for certain, except that they're dangerous.
