I'm so totally going to rub Valentine's Day IN ALL YOUR FACES

 

Over here we have this horrible advert of two pigeons on a motor scooter trying to sell valentine's day cards. It's a mockery and the voice actors are actually known for being the cheapest ones possible, plus they do all the dodgy mobile phone adverts so it's basically bad for the company's business.

 

I think the reason singles are actually bitter, is because almost everything is geared towards couples. Heck, most movies have some form of romance, or sex or anything that has to do with couples.

And then everyone is like eating each other right in front of you or something. And you're like "wat" because it's a public display that is more or less making every single person feel uncomfortable or sad and lonely.

 

For the record this makes me feel uncomfortable at any given point in time. >>

 

I think it makes everyone uncomfortable to see people macking it up in public, regardless of their relationship status.

Valentine's day is just another societal invention to drive us to pair up and procreate with one another. Added to the social stigma of being single beyond a certain point. 'Oh my gawd, you're thirty and not married yet? Is something wrong with you?' Just like there's a social stigma of being alone on Valentine's Day. People assume that you're bitter because you're single.

What if it's my choice to be single? Is that so wrong?
If people knew the history of Valentine's Day, it's not so romantic. Well, unless you like Massacres and death.

I only remember Valentine's Day anymore because it is actually my parents' anniversary. Other than that, I pretty much ignore it. I like being single. Means I don't have to conform to the idea that you have to buy your significant other something in order to express your love for them (they should feel loved by you every day of the year, with or w/o gifts).

 

I don't have a problem with gift giving. It is a love language after all. I have problems with gift giving holidays though. When people are expecting gifts then when you get one it less about the gift making you feel happy and loved and more about avoiding making people feel bad that they didn't get something. Also it becomes harder for people with low budgets to give spontanious gifts (which to my experience are the ones that really count) because you need to save money to have enough for the times that gifts are expected of you.

but anyway, i don't really like valentine's day. sometimes it can be cute, but it just gives a reason for a guy to go out and buy something. or vice versa. if they actually loved you, they wouldn't need a certain day to buy something for you, or take you out to a fancy dinner, or just do anything that people feel obligated to do on that day. because of that, i'm completely alright with being single on valentine's day.
