Sorry, for such a late reply on this, but I think what Tallin said about the Discovery Channel squid was this:

It was the remains of something that was assumed to be a giant squid, but it was never actually figured out if it was or not. It looks like it, but if it's not a giant squid/octopus then what the heck is it?! :D

    [Edit]

Also, two more pics, here and here, relate to the first two that were posted.

    [Edit again]

Another good one is shown here:

I think this is the biggest one caught whole, so far.

Hey, it'd be pretty fun to own a gaint squid....... I'd rule the world with a gaint squid as my pet.....:D .....Back on topic. The first pics of the squid are real; I'm positive, but the one with the fisherman.......Do you really think he'd still be standing there so calmly with his fishing rod if a Gaint Squid game out of the water?

I'm guanna train my own circus of gaint squid and breed them to become an army! Allright, that was joke. This is now a serious sentence: Gaint squids are cool, but, like Mish said, they're gross when they're dead. And they stank!

I hope you realize this is the Intelligent Discussion, if you don't have anything useful to post, then don't post it. This goes for everyone. I'm very strict about spam.

Anyway credit goes to Wikipedia for the following information..

Giant Squids are squid of the Architeuthidae family, represented by as many as eight species of the genus Architeuthis. They are deep-ocean dwelling animals that can grow to a tremendous size: recent estimates put the maximum size at 10 meters (34 ft) for males and 13 meters (44 ft) for females from caudal fin to the tip of the two long tentacles (second only to the Colossal Squid at an estimated 14 meters (46 ft), one of the largest living organisms). The mantle length, though, is only about 2 meters (7 ft) in length (more for females, less for males), and the length of the squid excluding its tentacles is about 5 meters (16 ft). There were reported claims of specimens of up to 20 meters (66 ft), but none had been scientifically.

So its proven that there ARE giant squids, its just that they dwell in deep-oceans. I wonder what other mysterious types of creatures inhabit Earth.

    Cool

Well I knew it was only a matter of time before they photographed a live giant squid.

I don't know why but the whole Giant Squid thing had always interested me. I mean, they had found dead ones before, but I was always awaiting the day for a live one to be captured, or photographed. So, yay, Cin, you have helped make one of my dreams come true.

I would love to see other strange and unknown animals from the deep sea, as I'm sure there are so many.

Oh, yeah, and that fisherman picture is fake... but I really don't think that this is a debatable matter...

  15. LOL! Yeah thats one giant squid! Like pretend you are swimming in a distant ocean, then suddenly you see this big squid behind you, gosh i'd probably faint. Yeah, nice pics!
