School shooting at Kauhajoki

So, some of you might have heard of it, but there's been a school shooting in Finland... Here's what I know.

A shooting incident has occurred at a vocational college in Kauhajoki, western Finland, on September 23, 2008.
Police told YLE and another Finnish news agency they feared nine students have been killed and two have been injured. Media reports have suggested that there were an estimated 200 students in the building at the time of the incident, and the shootings began at around 11.00 am (EET).
Police have reported the gunman, dressed in black and wearing a ski mask armed with an automatic weapon, was thought to be a 20-year-old student. He was disarmed and arrested. Local media reported that he had not been disarmed, but had shot himself. The gunman has reportedly been brought to a hospital with a gunshot-wound in the head but is still alive. The town mayor and hospital sources appeared to corroborate this.
The gunman had earlier posted videos and pictures of himself wielding various firearms, similar to the perpetrator of the Jokela school shooting.

 

You know, I'm so sick of school shootings. It's so wrong, I hope those who are feared dead are okay.

 

Unfortunately not.. For what I just heard... And I agree with being sick of them. That's the second one in a year. When it's been quiet for nearly 20 years..

 

I didn't hear about that. Thats to bad that that happened.

 

I heard about this in Finnish-class, a friend of mine got a text-message... I've been on the internet on every break, and so far there is 9 dead, and the shooter shot himself in the head, and has little chance of surviving. So it's sounding like a 'Jokela vol.2' so far...

 

I think that this guy tried to re-do Jokela. As he also burnt his school.

 

I honestly don't know what gets into people when they decide to cause such a tragedy. I feel really bad for the victims. I hope they have the death penalty in Finland.

 

Newest update is that there are 11 victims including the killer.

 

This is quite sad... I can't believe somebody would go and do something like this... D:

Okay, well, I can believe it, considering the world is turning into a pretty messed up place... *sigh*

I really hate it when things like this happen... It makes me sad to see that more people are dying every day when they shouldn't be... And I'm also getting more paranoid every time...

With all the kidnappings and stuff I've seen on the news, whenever I walk somewhere around my neighborhood, I'm terrified of being snatched... Or I think someone's in a nearby house just waiting for me to come out and shoot me... Someone has also threatened in a locker-note to blow up my school and it scared the living daylights outta me... Seriously, that's how bad the world has gotten...

so yeah that's my little rant... heh... Does anyone have any idea WHY that guy decided to make a school shooting? o.o

 

At least I didn't find about it... But apparently he wanted to make a replica of Jokela, in which he succeed in.

 

*sighs* That is a really stupid reason to injur/kill 10 other students...

 

I agree. Also, any reason to do something like that is stupid.

 

One of them was a teacher. Other nine were students.

 

The mind of one who has been pushed dover the edge is quite unstable.

 

A teacher, too?! Wow, that's horrible...

If that's twice this year, already, then how many more will come after this? (sorry if I go kinda religious for a sec here... heh...) I know that when God created us, he didn't intend for the human race to become this bad... That's why he flooded the earth... Unfortunately, not even that can make things better... *shakes head*

Agreed. They don't know what to do with their lives, so they ruin in for everyone else...

 

Im kinda surprised and not surprised something like this happened. I heard the education system in Finland's the best in the world so I guess this could give some bad insights to others not knowing about their schools much. At the same time, keeping such high reputations in school isn't very easy so...I guess this was bound to happen sometime?

 

I think when they snap they feel an urge to take out as many people as possible.
