Omg! You almost made me cry again! With the adorable moment between Roxas and Namine :3

Gee, why did you have to stop there DX I was just getting into it fully.. and Sora better save Kairi. From drowning, I mean. Is the dizziness because she was getting memories back? I think it was- I mean, she got it just as she was thinking about how pretty the sunset was..

    Nice update. *Reps*

    Chapter 24: Power

    Kairi

Falling...falling...falling...how much longer would she fall? She felt herself drifting down, towards the bottom of the ocean. She couldn’t move at all, even if she wanted to. It was as if she had completely shut down. It was probably because she had no air; she was going to die down here. Her lungs were going to burst; she couldn’t survive much longer.

The water...it was, so cold. She wasn’t sure which was going to kill her first: the freezing cold water or suffocation. Kairi couldn’t decide which death was worse. All this ran through her mind, along with one other thought: How could the water have been so deep? Since she was right by the island when she fell, the water should have been a foot or two in depth at the most. So why was it that she continued falling?

She felt a small amount of air escaper her lips. She couldn’t hold it in anymore. This was truly the end. So, she had come home, gotten through one of the toughest trials of her life only to die. Life was so unfair.

Huh? She suddenly felt ground beneath her feet, darkness surrounding her. She opened her eyes a crack to see that a faint blue light lit up the area around her. Kairi opened her mouth only to find that she was no longer in water; she was breathing air. The girl put a foot forward and was immediately blinded by a bright yellow light. She raised her arms out of instinct to block out the light. It was so bright, but eventually her eyes got used to it and she noticed something new. A light flapping sound surrounded her, filling her ears. She tentatively moved her arms and saw that the light was coming from the circular platform that she was standing on. The circle was being revealed as hundreds of doves flew up from the platform and towards the sky. Where they came from, Kairi didn’t know. But it didn’t matter; they were there anyway. The teen stared in awe as they flew above her, leaving her there alone on the unknown platform.

From where she was standing, she could barley make out what the picture was. But she recognized that it was a picture of Sora, fighting Roxas (which she thought was odd). Sora held Oathkeeper, which Kairi recognized from that time when the heartless attacked the island. Roxas held Oblivion, which had been the other keyblade Sora had used.

    So much to do...

Kairi jumped at the voice, which had so rudely interrupted her train of thought. She looked around, trying to find the source of the voice.

    ...so little time.

The redhead figured out where the voice came from pretty soon. It actually came from her heart. Although she had no idea how or why, she knew that it was the truth. And, no matter what, she had to trust this voice.

Take your time. Don’t be afraid.

‘Don’t be afraid’? Yeah, that’s easier said than done.

Now, step forward. The voice continued. Can you do it?

Kairi took a deep breath and moved her left foot forward, prepared for anything. But this time, nothing happened. Not right away. She continued walking forward, looking towards the non-existent sky as she walked. When she reached the center, she heard s shimmering noise around her. The voice began to explain, not really helping her understand anything but somehow comforting her.

Power sleeps within you, Kairi. Out of the corner of her eye, Kairi saw that a platform rose to her right. And another one to her left. Turning around, she saw a third one rising up behind her. On each platform sat a different weapon. If you give it form, it will give you strength. The girl looked around, observing each instrument. She knew what the voice was asking, but she wasn’t sure what answer she would give. Choose well.

She walked towards the shield, which had an interesting cover. It almost looked like King Mickey, of Disney Castle. She was startled that she knew his name. Had he been in her life before? Had she just remembered something without even noticing?

Kairi shook her head and picked up the shield. The voice described its attributes to her.

    The power of a guardian.
    Kindness to aid friends.
    A shield to repel all.
Is this the power you seek?

It sounded good, but she knew that she should check out her other options before giving a hasty reply. She shook her head and gingerly set the shield back on the platform. Next, she walked to the sword.

    The power of a warrior.
    Invincible strength.
    A sword of terrible destruction.
Is this the power you seek?

Terrible destruction? There was no need to think about this one. Kairi shook her head no and put the sword back in its place. She didn’t want destruction! She wanted peace. The girl walked over to the staff and picked it up, staring at it as she held it in her hands.

    The power of a mystic.
    Inner strength.
A staff of wonder and ruin.
Is this the power you seek?

Inner strength...that appealed to her. She nodded towards the sky and put on a brave face. The staff began to shine, slowly disappearing in yellow light.

Your path has been set. The voice told her. Now...what will you give up in exchange?

Huh?! Kairi hadn’t expected that. But at least she knew which weapon didn’t appeal to her at all. She walked up to the sword. You give up this power? Kairi nodded, not feeling any regret.

You have chosen the power of a mystic. You have given up the power of a warrior. Is this the form you chose?

After a moment’s hesitation, Kairi nodded. Somehow, she knew that she had made the right choice. The powers that she had back in the real world must have been magic. So if she could get magic to be her strength by choosing the wand, then so be it.

    Your path has been set.

‘Didn’t the voice realize that it had just repeated itself?’ Kairi thought to herself, slightly amused. But her lightheartedness did not last for long. The three stands partly collapsed, indenting themselves in the platform. A cracking voice filled the silence, the platform below her slowly shattering from the impact of the stands. All that she could do was stare helplessly at the picture as it crumbled. After it had all shaken and fallen into the blackness, she felt her body fall too.

She was falling again, powerless to save herself. Darkness surrounded her. Then, a speck suddenly appeared in front of her. As she continued falling, the speck became clearer: it was another platform. Since she was so far above it, she could clearly make out the picture. It was Riku. He was holding his keyblade in his right hand. But what really stuck out was the fact that he was blindfolded. Why?

Her body straightened as she prepared to land. Her feet gently landed on the platform, making a small clanking noise. Kairi kept her eyes straight ahead, seeing that the platform was empty.

A shimmering noise began to ring in Kairi’s ears. The staff that she had chosen earlier suddenly appeared in her right hand, glowing with mysterious light. She tightened her grip around it, enjoying the feeling of power that it brought.

You’ve gained the ability to fight.

Kairi nodded to herself and swung the staff once, feeling it flow through the air and created a small breeze. She enjoyed it. She swung again, pretending to knock out her foes with powerful strokes.

You’ve got it! The voice encouraged her before becoming more serious. Use this power to protect yourself and others. Kairi closed her eyes and took in a breath. This power...it was good, but it also could become destruction. She had to be careful how she used her power. Opening up her eyes again, she saw a small black splotch on the ground. She hadn’t notice that before...

There will be times you have to fight. Another black blob appeared next to the other one. Both began to squirm and slowly rise up from the ground. They were heartless. Keep your light burning strong.

Kairi let out a small growl as she ran forward and swung her staff at the heartless. After a few graceful whacks, one foe disappeared in a puff of smoke. All the other shadows that had suddenly appeared simply sank back into the ground and disappeared. She stood straighter and looked for any more enemies. Failing to see any, she lowered her guard and held the staff at her side.

Behind you! The voice cried out in warning. Kairi immediately raised her wand and swung around, locking her glowing eyes on the shadow. Before it could pounce, she ran towards it and swung it right at its head. Even though that one disappeared, a few others had appeared while Kairi was distracted. She turned around and saw that four were staring at her, ready to attack. She lunged forward and knocked one out of existence. When the other two pounced, she rolled forward and speedily turned around in time to knock them both out in one hit. The one final heartless sunk into the ground, creating a black spot on the platform. Kairi expected it to disappear, but it didn’t.

The splotch grew, consuming the platform. The girl looked around and saw several more spots doing the same. Wide-eyed, she felt herself fall into the blackness. First it was knee deep, then it increased and swallowed her whole body. She tried to reach for something...anything that would save her. But she was gone anyway. She felt around frantically in the darkness, trying to save herself. Eventually, she saw the faint sky again. For some reason, she was lying on another platform. She gasped heavily as she lay on the ground, terrified but still alive. Kairi slowly raised herself from the floor, looking at the platform. It was a picture of Namine, and she was drawing in her sketchbook. She looked very, very sad.

What was that on the platform? A faded door stood on the side opposite of Kairi. The redhead walked towards the door and put her hand on the knob. It wouldn’t budge.

A shimmering noise came from somewhere else on the platform. The girl turned around and saw that a treasure chest had appeared in a stream of white light. She walked towards it and knelt down as she opened it. It held a potion and an ether. Good. She had a feeling that she would need them.

A bigger chest appeared to her right. Kairi took a step over and opened it. She pulled out a wooden staff, crafted with great beauty. The bottom was sharp like a knife. It would probably kill somebody. The top had a bluish purple ball on top, made out of a crystal. It shone in the light.

This is the Staff of Ancients. The voice explained. It gives the user great wisdom and courage. Wield it well.

Another noise came from behind her. The door looked different...complete. Kairi walked towards it and gently pulled it up, light engulfing her as she walked through. When the light cleared, she was that she was on another platform- what a surprise. It had a picture of Sora on it, and he was almost sitting on the keyblade. A bunch of other faces were on the platform too. She saw Riku, a duck, a dog, and...herself. She didn’t want to think about it. This platform seemed unimportant anyway. What seemed more important was the platform she saw off in the distance. It rose higher out of the blackness quite a ways off. There was a path leading there. It looked beautiful- almost as if made out of stained glass. But it looked sturdy at the same time, not frail and useless. Kairi made a dash for the stairs, running as quickly as she could. By the time she made it up to the top, she could see the platform. It was a picture of King Mickey, standing in front of another female mouse. He held a keyblade in his right hand. It looked as if he was ready to defend her at any cost.

Looked up, Kairi was disappointed to see that this platform was just like the other: plain and boring. There was nothing sitting on top of it. No doors, no treasure chests, no nothing. Deep down inside though, she was relieved that nothing had happened yet. But she couldn’t help but get a bad vibe from this place...

She stepped forward, walking into the center of the platform. She stopped when she heard the voice speak again.

In order to fulfill your destiny, you will need courage. You will need to face your worst enemies and succeed if you want to keep the realm of light safe.

Kairi turned around and felt her heart leap in her chest when she saw that she wasn’t alone. A man was standing there, in a black cloak. His hood was already down. His silver hair stood out. His eyes glowed with fiery anger.

    “We meet again, Princess.â€

Kairi growled softly. Xemnas. He was back. Why? Why was he so important? She instinctively took a few steps back, never taking her eyes off of the man.

    But don’t be afraid...

Xemnas stood perfectly still as he summoned his red light sabers and stared menacingly at Kairi.

    ...and don’t forget...

She turned around and ran. Her thoughts were born of panic, not reason. She only thought of one thing: the need to escape. She ran to the edge of the platform and quickly stopped herself, noticing that there was no escape. Kairi turned herself around and saw Xemnas step a little closer, wearing an evil smirk. The Staff of Ancients appeared in Kairi’s right hand. Something changed in her heart. She suddenly felt braver, more courageous. She stood taller and stared at Xemnas. She could fight now. And she would win. With a small growl, she charge at Xemnas, swinging her staff at his head. He seemed startled by her sudden attack, defending himself with both of his light sabers. Unfortunately for Kairi, he was much stronger than she was. He pushed herself away, nearly knocking her off her feet. The girl recovered just in time to see that he was running towards her, swinging his weapons. There was no way she could use her staff to block both sabers.

“Shield!†She screamed, a second before impact. His weapons bounced off her clear shield and sent him back a few steps. The second it disappeared Kairi ran towards him and swung at his stomach, getting in a few solid hits. She stepped away after her combo, expecting retaliation. He took a moment to recover, surprising Kairi. She could have gotten in more hits if she had known it would take him this long to recover. But it was too late to go back now.

Xemnas suddenly vanished without a trace. “Huh?†Kairi said softly. A soft noise came from behind her.

“Fire!†Xemnas screamed from behind Kairi. Kairi turned around just in time to be pelted by a stream of fiery bullets. She grunted as the bullets pierced her body. Her eyes watered as she looked towards Xemnas, who was running towards her again. She had no choice but to do one desperate move before he reached her.

“LIGHT!†She cried. The platform exploded with a bright white light. It engulfed everything. She heard Xemnas yell in pain. When the light disappeared, she saw that he was standing on the opposite side of the platform, grabbing his stomach. He would recover soon. Kairi wheezed as she reached into her hand bag and pulled out a potion. She drank it greedily. The aches immediately disappeared and she felt fully recharged. Except that her magic wasn’t completely up yet. But she wasn’t prepared to waste her ether yet.

Kairi jumped to her feet and picked up her staff, which had fallen out of her hand. With a loud roar, she charged, aiming for Xemnas’ heart with the sharp pointed end to stab him.

He as too fast, he grabbed her staff and used it to twist her arm back, nearly breaking it. She shrieked in pain. Kairi let go of her weapon and backed away, avoiding him swinging it at her stomach by inches. Not good. The girl grabbed her arm and held onto it. She dared daggers at her foe.

“I knew you wouldn’t be able to do it.†Xemnas taunted. “You don’t have the strength! You’re just a pathetic, worthless girl. Sora sure did pick a loser for a girlfriend.†He began to laugh

Kairi straightened herself back up, daring to stare into his eyes. She felt a new kind of anger spread through her. It was one thing to insult her, but why did he have to bring Sora into this? It was more intense than anything she had felt before. It filled her with rage, burning inside her. “SHUT UP! She screamed, her voice echoing loudly. She raised her hand and sent a bold of white lightening at the nobody. He stepped back a little bit, surprised. But he quickly composed himself.

Xemnas had stopped chuckling and now frowned at the Princess. He erupted with a growl, red light sabers dragging on the ground as he ran towards her. Kairi stared at him until he was closer. Finally, her magic power returned. She stretched out her arm and saw bullets of light come out of her fingertips. Xemnas shot back in pain, unable to avoid the hits. His facial expression was pinched with pain. “You’ll die now.†A dark ball sparking with electricity shot towards Kairi.

“Not today.†Kairi deflected the mass of energy with one easy swipe of her arm. Her hand began to glow as she thought about using telekinesis. Xemnas’ body began to glow as well. Kairi made his body rise up and down, slamming into the platform with solid thuds. The platform trembled slightly with the force of the impact. The power that made her worst enemy suffer pleased Kairi greatly. She wanted to make him suffer as much as she did, but she was running out of energy. With one last roar, Kairi threw down Xemnas on the other side of the platform. For a long while, his body lay motionless.

His body slowly began to rise from the ground. He was defeated. “I have misjudged you, Princess. But not matter what happens to me, the darkness conquers all.†Xemnas disappeared in a puff of smoke, scattered pieces of darkness floating into the sky. Kairi stood still and stared out into the nothingness, her blue eyes glowing with anger.

Something tug at her leg. She looked down and saw a vine of darkness grabbing onto her right ankle. The girl gasped and tried to break away, frantically pulling at her leg. Another vine grabbed her other leg. Then her arms. She couldn’t break free.

    ...but don’t be afraid...

The dark puddle underneath her body began to grow, pulling her down into its depths. She was horrified when her body fell so low that the blackness began covering her head. Her world turned black.

    ...and don’t forget...

Kairi began to hyperventilate, feeling the cold of darkness surrounding her body. There was no air...she was going to suffocate. Die. No light could save her now.

...you are...the only hope for the future.

It’s all been leading up to this! OWS, you wondered why I had Xemnas so many chapters ago? *pokes chapter 24* there’s the reason. I’m not too good at fight scenes, but I put so much time into this that I think it turned out really cool. Let me know what ya’ll think, k? And also, no I didn’t do the platform thingy just like Sora’s or Roxas’ experiences. I wanted to make it special =). This is one of my best chapters, what do you all think? I realize I asked that already, but I want to emphasize it! I was just going back and reading over all the comments you guys made about chapter 23 and it makes me feel so successful. Thanks for responding guys! Now...respond again! xD

    awww wow!
    <3

Of course, it was a little bit "oo-kayy.. seen this before" but I REALLY wasn't expecting Xemnas to pop out and attack so I was like "awesome!"

Kairi kicks ass all of a sudden xD Bit of a chnage from reality, huh?

Well it was nicely done. Considering you don't like writing fight scene, it was lovely <3

Your writing just gets better and better, hun.

    Chapter 25: Remembrance

    Kairi

“Kairi...” the sound of her name entered Kairi’s ears. She cracked open her eyes and was surprised to feel her head suddenly explode in pain. The burst of light must have caused it. Where was she, anyway? The girl opened her eyes more, ignoring the pain shooting through her hand. She was in her room...lying in bed. How did she-

“Kairi!” Sora was sitting on her bed, holding an ice-cold rag to her forehead. His crystal blue eyes were wide with concern. The loudness of his voice made Kairi want to cover her ringing ears.

“Sora?” Kairi tried to sit up only to fail. She fell back into her pillows and groaned softly. “What happened?”

“You just suddenly fainted. We were sitting out on the tree and you suddenly collapsed. So I brought you back to your room.”

“I...fainted?” What did that mean? She knew that what she had gone through was real. It did happen, didn’t it? She had fought Xemnas. And then she had been taken by the darkness! It was clear to her; there was no way that could have been just a dream. “You mean... I didn’t fall into the ocean?”

“‘Fall into the ocean?’” Sora repeated. “No, you fell off the tree.” His voice suddenly became softer, his eyes showing concern. “Are you alright, Kairi? What makes you think you fell into the ocean?”

Kairi shook her head slightly, her head still aching. Sora removed the washcloth and set it down on her end table. “I just...forget it, it’s not important.”

Sora looked unsure at her answer but graciously dropped the subject. He suddenly put his hand to her forehead. “You’re burning up, Kairi. You must have caught the flu or something.” He looked so sweet and concerned, just like the Sora she had always known. Always looking out for her and caring for her when she was in trouble.

“Sora...” Kairi closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She felt so weak and out of breath. It took a lot of effort to get even one word out. But it was something she needed to say.

“Don’t say anything, Kairi. Just rest.”

“No...I need to say this.” She paused for a breath between each word. “I got my memory back. I....remember now...everything.”

Sora looked down at her and gave a small smile. He leaned down and hugged her gently, making Kairi feel a shooting pain in her arm. She let out a small gasp and Sora quickly got off of her. “Sorry, I forget to tell you about your arm. When you fell off the tree, you landed on it and now it’s fractured.”

It was the arm that Xemnas had twisted backward during the fight, Kairi realized. But Sora already thought she was crazy; there was no way she would make him worry more. So instead, she just looked at her arm in silence.

“You’re awake!” A female voice came from the doorway. Kairi sat up a little bit and saw Namine, Roxas, and Riku enter the room. Namine let go of Roxas’ hand and came over to Kairi and hugged her tightly. Kairi winced in pain as her nobody touched her arm. When Namine backed off, the redhead put on a small smile and tried to hide the pain. She couldn’t hide it from Sora though, who was staring intently at her.

“Riku, would you take care of her arm now?” Sora asked his silver haired friend. He couldn’t stand seeing Kairi in so much pain. Riku nodded silently and walked over to her side. Namine moved out of the way, oblivious to the pain she had caused Kairi. Riku gingerly picked up her arm and held it in his hand. He pulled some cloth bandages out of pocket and began to dress her arm.

    “Are you alright?” Namine asked.

“I’m fine.” Kairi spoke without thought.

“Really?” Roxas asked from the other side of the room. He wasn’t so easily fooled. He wasn’t a complete sap like Sora was.

“Yeah, really.” Kairi winced as Riku accidently touched a sore spot. He whispered an apology as he continued more carefully.

Kairi just noticed that Sora held a thermometer in his hand. “Open up.” He ordered. Kairi obeyed. He stuck it under her tongue and held it there until it beeped. “104.00. That’s not good.” He said softly. “Maybe we should take her to the hospital.

“I’ve gotten higher fevers before.” Kairi said quietly. She wasn’t sure if anyone heard her.

“She just needs rest.” Riku stood up, having finished working on Kairi’s arm. “Let her sleep.” Roxas and Namine left first, then Riku. Sora was the last one out, hesitant to leave her. But Kairi had already closed her eyes and fallen asleep. The boy gave a small smile and walked over to his friend. He kissed her on her forehead before he walked out and left her alone in her sleep.

    ****
    Monday July 3

It’s been three days since my dream. Right now I’m home alone, lying in bed. I officially have the flu. I’m so cold all the time, and my head aches. I feel like I’m burning up or freezing cold. Ugh! I hate being sick. Riku treated my arm; it’s better now. I feel a little bit of pain, but it’s better than what it was before.

Namine is out on a date with Roxas. They had both asked me several times if I didn’t mind that I was left alone. I insisted that they went out all day. I would have loved the company, but those two haven’t been together in a long while. They love each other; I can see it in their eyes. I’m so happy for Namine and Roxas, they deserve it.

As for me and Sora, well, we have quite a bit of catching up to do.
Kairi chuckled softly before continuing. He’s got me taking so much medicine that it’s making me so drowsy and out of it. So we can’t really have a serious talk without me going all loopy on him! It’s so weird.

He and Riku have visited me a few times the past few days. Sora just kind of sits there and stares at me. He is way too worried! It’s just a flu. No matter how unpleasant it is, it isn’t serious. I guess he still recalls the last time I was sick with the disease. So I guess I can see why he’s so protective now. Riku sits by my bed and is always so open about everything. He always asks me if I want to talk about anything, and I always tell him no. Then he puts the subject aside and tells hilarious jokes. He’s a great friend. Nothing more, I realize now. I know who I like.

    ******
    Wednesday July 5

It’s been a week since the incident. I’m finally starting to feel better. I can actually get out of bed and do stuff around the house. I refuse to keep overdosing on the medicine; it feels good to actually be aware of what’s going on around me.

Namine is hardly around anymore; she’s always with Roxas. I get lonely sometimes, but I would rather have her be out with him than stuck here with me. I make pretty bad company when I’m groggy and grumpy.

Selphie, Tidus and Wakka have come to visit me too. Selphie is always bringing gossip and I pretend to care. Tidus is shy and awkward and Wakka is excited that I’m better because he wants to teach me blitzball. Ha! Like that’ll ever happen.

    *****
    Friday July 7
I’m almost completely better! When Sora found out that I wasn’t taking the medicine anymore, he was pretty furious. But, hey, that stuff was so nasty! I was the one eating it, not him. Besides, I’m better anyway.

I’m so glad I have such great friends that are helping me get through this. The inability to do anything can get PRETTY annoying! Things have been really uneventful lately. But I think if I stay sane and get some more rest, I should be allowed to leave my house by the end of the weekend.

    ******
That week was pretty boring for Kairi. All she could do was sleep. She could tell that all of her friends pitied her, especially Selphie. Selphie just COULD NOT imagine being shut in like that. Away from all the gossip! How could Kairi have survived?!

Namine was always out with Roxas. And when she wasn’t, she and her new boyfriend were visiting Kairi together. But Kairi was either always asleep or pretending to be asleep when they came. Why was she pretending? Kairi wasn’t sure herself. It was kind of weird, those two being together. She and Sora weren’t even together yet. Well, they kind of were but...it was too complicated.

It was Monday that Sora showed up at her house again. He was regularly coming 3 times a day. That day was the most eventful day that had happened in the past week. Kairi was watching TV when he let himself in that morning.

“Hey.” Kairi greeted him. Sora returned with a quiet “Hello” before sitting down on the couch next to her. For a while, they just sat there. The movie A Walk To Remember played in the background.

    “How are you feeling?”

“Pretty good. Am I allowed to leave my house yet?” Kairi joked. He was the one who kept her shut up the past week.

Sora laughed. “Not yet. But how about this: let’s do something Friday. Just the two of us.”

“Like what?” Kairi leaned back into the couch, relaxing.

“We could go out to eat and then see a movie?” Sora suggested.

“A date?” Sora blushed, confirming her suspicions. “It sounds fun. Where would we go to eat?”

“Let’s go to Destiny Diner.” Ugh. That had to be the worst restaurant on the island.

“You sure know how to charm a girl, don’t you?” Kairi said sarcastically. Sora laughed again. What a cute laugh....

    “Alright, how about Paradise Plaza?”

Now it was Kairi’s turn to laugh. “Sora, that’s the best, most expensive place on the island! You’d need to get reservations a month in advance to go there.”

“Would I?” Sora smirked and pulled a reservation card out of his pocket. Kairi shrieked in excitement.

“How did you get that?!” Kairi took it out of his hand. Sure enough, it was a reservation for two under the name Sora Hikaru. “Hey, how did you know I was gonna say yes?”

“Some things I just know.” Sora smirked as he took back the ticket. “So, is it a date?”

Kairi smiled back at him. “Yeah, it’s a date.”

The rest of the week went by in slow-motion for Kairi. She was so excited for her date. But she also wondered what she would wear. It was such a beautiful restaurant, she had to look right. Out of desperation, she called Selphie over to help her with her dilemma. They shopped over the internet, trying to find a cute dress that would arrive quickly and in good condition.

“Oh!” Selphie gasped when she saw a stunning pink dress. She looked over and saw Kairi shaking her head.

“I’m tired of pink.” Kairi clicked on another dress. No, too formal. Too sleazy. Too pricey.

An hour later they were still were on their search. “This is hopeless!” Kairi wailed. “I’ll never find the right dress!”

    “Kairi.”

“No, Selphie, I’m not going to buy the medieval princess dress! That’s just weird! Nobody dresses like that”

    “Kairi.”

“There is no way you can change my mind!”

“Kairi!” Selphie had finally gotten her friend’s attention. She pointed to the screen.

    Kairi gasped. “IT’S PERFECT!!!”

Whoa, you're really popping these chapters out fast xDDD

Hmm, I got the connection at the start with Roxas falling off the clock tower straight away. Atleast I think that was meant to happen :3

Nice twists of humour put in, you made me giggle a few times. I can't believe how much this fic has changed.. its amazing (:

Check the diary entry for July 3rd. The third paragraph has a past tense action which shouldn't be in italics ;D
I know I'm being fussy, but stuff like that stands out to me :3

    Good work xD

    The final chapter

    Chapter 26: Another Surprise

    Kairi

    It was 6:32 P.M.

Where was Sora? He was supposed to pick her up for their date at 6:30 sharp!

Kairi paced her living room, knowing that she was over reacting. Still though, they were going to Destiny Plaza! Who wouldn’t be excited to go there? Just her and Sora. Namine and Roxas weren’t even coming along; they had said they had their own special plans for the night. Kairi had asked what they were going to do, but they never answered her. Kairi felt a sad pang hit her heart. She was losing her best friend, wasn’t she? And there was nothing she could do about it.

A knock on the door interrupted Kairi’s flashback. She let out a squeal of excitement and ran to the door. Before opening, she calmed herself down by taking a few deep breaths. When she felt she looked normal enough, she opened the door. Sora was standing there with a box of chocolates.

“Hey Kairi.†Sora looked so handsome! He had rented a tux for their date tonight. It was a classic, black tux. He looked so much older in decent clothes. His hair was a little bit shorter, but it was still as spiky as ever. Kairi smiled; she had always loved his spiky hair.

    “Hey Sora.â€

“You look...really...beautiful.†Sora said slowly, looking at her dress. Kairi smiled even wider. This was the dress that she and Selphie had bought off the internet. It had arrived two days ago, which was surprisingly fast. But she didn’t mind. The gown hit her just right; not too tight, not too lose. It had spaghetti straps and a straight top. A ribbon was tied just a little bit above her waist; a bow in the back. The dress flowed to the floor, just an inch above the floor. And the color...the color was stunning. It was the same color blue as Kairi’s eyes. It was clear that she was MEANT to have this dress.

“Thanks. You’re looking pretty handsome yourself.†Kairi blushed a little.

“Are you ready?†Sora held out a hand. Kairi gracefully put her hand in his. Her arm and completely recovered in a week, surprising everyone. So now she felt absolutely no pain. It must have been something Riku had done, but he was quiet about the subject.

“Yeah, let’s go.†Sora opened the door with his free hand and shut it after they were both out.

“Oh, crap.†Before they had even gotten off the porch, Sora let go of Kairi’s hand and began to dig in his pockets. “Did I...?†He sighed. “I forgot the reservation card at my house. We’re going to have to stop by there to get them.†He grimaced.

Kairi let out a laugh. “I should have known you’d do something like that, Sora. I probably should have kept them.â€

“You’re probably right.†The teenager showed a cheesy grin. “Let’s hurry up and go get it.â€

The couple began walking towards his house, which was only about five minutes away. On the way, they didn’t talk about too much; just small talk and jokes. No kissing...yet, Kairi thought, smiling a little at the thought.

“We’re here.†Sora picked the key out of his pocket. “At least I didn’t forget my key.†He smirked as he put the key in the door and opened it. The house was completely dark...it was almost scary. “Come on in.†He encouraged. He walked straight through the house, not bothering to turn on the light.

“Sora? Where’d you go?†Kairi looked around only to see nothingness. “Why didn’t you turn the lights on?â€

    Flash! The lights turned on.

“SURPRISE!†A group of voices came from the living room in front of Kairi. It was all her friends! Selphie, Tidus, Wakka, Riku, and a bunch of other friends from their school. And in the back....Namine and Roxas? What were they all doing there? And why were they all dressed in formal clothing?

Sora came out from behind everyone and up to Kairi. “Happy 18th birthday!†He grinned. “All week, we’ve been planning this party to celebrate your birthday and your recovery from the amnesia.â€

“Then...the date?†Kairi was starting to catch on.

“I made it up. Those weren’t real reservations, Wakka made those up. Who knew that he could operate a computer?†Sora laughed.

    “Hey! That’s not cool!â€

“Awww, you guys did this for me?†Kairi looked over at Sora.

“You deserve it, Kairi!†One of her school friends called out from the back of the group. The rest said their agreement. Kairi felt herself blush, tears flowing to her eyes. She was the luckiest girl in the world. She looked down to her feet. Somebody came up and hugged her tightly. Namine. And here Kairi had thought she was being ignored all week. But it had been the opposite.

“You know I would never be THAT boy crazy.†The voice whispered in her ear. Namine knew exactly what she was thinking. “We’re best friends...forever. OK?†Kairi nodded and let a tear slide down her cheek.

“Thank you.†The redhead whispered back. Namine pat her on the back and slowly let go. Kairi looked at everyone and saw that they were all staring at her. She chuckled awkwardly. “Okay then, let’s get this party started!†The crowd went wild. Riku turned up some loud dance music and everyone began to dance. While they were all entertained, Kairi went to the kitchen, the most open place she could think of, to clean up her tear stained face. A group of students was already hanging out there. They waved, and Kairi waved back. She went over to the punch bowl; she was suddenly really thirsty. The girl grabbed a cup and began to drink.

“So, what do you think?†Kairi turned to her right and saw Selphie grinning at her. She wore a bright orange dress that went down to the floor. She didn’t wait for Kairi to answer. “Do you know how hard it was for me to not tell you? It was like, OH MY GOSH; I can’t believe I survived a week while keeping a secret! I wanted to blab it to you so many times but I knew that they boys would have killed me if I did, you know? So I just had to be quiet. I kept a secret for a whole week! I didn’t even think that was possible!â€

Kairi smiled. That was just like Selphie. “This whole thing is great. I can’t believe the guys did this for me.â€

Selphie nodded and set down her drink. “You should thank Namine; she’s the one who did most of the work.†Selphie let out a laugh. “You should have seen Roxas this week. Namine kept on turning him down so she could work on your party. He was so sad, but Namine didn’t care at all. She put a lot of work into this party.â€

“Selphie!†A boy called from across the room.

“Gotta go!†Selphie threw her cup in the trash. “See you later.†Selphie flipped her hair flirtatiously and ran towards the boy. “Tommy, wait up!â€

Kairi smiled as she watched her friend run off. Selphie was always on the run, especially when boys were involved. Kairi turned to walk back to the living room when she ran into Riku.

    “Hey Kairi.†Her friend greeted her.

“Hey Riku.†Kairi leaned over and gave him a hug. “I haven’t seen you much this past week.â€

“Yeah, I was busy with some stuff.†Riku let go of her and smiled. But Kairi saw that there was a different gleam in his eye than usual.

“Is that all?†Kairi pressed, looking him in the eye.

Riku gave her a small smile. I was right! “It was a girl, wasn’t it?†Riku began to blush. Kairi laughed. “I expect all the details tomorrow, OK?†Kairi didn’t want to ruin his fun tonight, since he was clearly embarrassed. She wouldn’t want her friend to feel awkward.

“Alright.†Riku agreed, breaking through her thoughts. “There’s always tomorrow.â€

“Yeah.†Kairi thought of something. They were both silent for a moment. “I’ll see you later.†Kairi pat him on the shoulder as she walked towards the front door. A gust of cold air greeted her. She sat down on Sora’s porch swing, staring out at the ocean. The waves were crashing beautifully, as they always did. The sky shone with the glorious nighttime stars.

The door opened to her right; somebody came out and sat by her side. Sora. He was looking at her intently, his blue eyes shining with happiness.

“I think...I just realized something.†Kairi looked down and put her hand on his while still gazing at the sea. She felt Sora rub her hand with his thumb as she continued. “Maybe I should really start living for today. If I keep worrying about all my tomorrows, then I’ll have too many wasted yesterdays.†She looked over at Sora. “What do you think?â€

“I think you’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, haven’t you?†He asked seriously.

Kairi nodded. “I have.†She smiled. “Maybe I should stop thinking so much and just live.†She side-hugged Sora and held on tight, leaning her head into his chest. She felt joy surge through her when he returned her embrace and stroked her hair. She snuggled closer, shivering because of the cold night air. Or maybe it was the joyful feeling inside her that was threatening to be released. It was probably both.

Sora noticed her shivering and let go of her while rising to his feet. “Do you want to go back inside for a little while?†Kairi nodded and held onto his hand again, letting him lead her inside. The party inside had really gotten lively; there wasn’t a person in there that wasn’t dancing. Wait?! Was Riku dancing with a girl?!

Sure enough, Riku was being goofy with a tall, thin, black haired girl. They were both smiling widely. Kairi didn’t know the girl, but it didn’t matter. If she made Riku smile like that, then Kairi already loved her.

Sora extended his hand and bowed as a slow song came on. “May I have this dance?â€

Kairi giggled and took his hand. Sora led her into the middle of the room and put his hand on her waist and held up her hand in his. He looked really happy. Kairi smiled and stared into his blue eyes as she wrapped her free arm behind his neck. She could never get tired of staring into those mysterious, gorgeous eyes.

    Is this the whole picture
Or is it just the start?
Is this the way you love me?
    You’re capturing my heart
I used to try and walk alone
    But I’ve begun to grow
And when you tell me just to rest
    I’m finally letting go
    I let go

Sora gave her a small smile and squeezed her hand, somehow letting her know that this song was how he felt about her. Kairi felt tears flood to her eyes as the song continued.

    And I’m here to stay
    Nothing can separate us
    And I know, I’m ok
    You cradle me gently
Wrapped in your arms.... I’m home

Kairi felt a tear slide down her cheek. The song was right...she was home in his arms. This was where she belonged, in the comfort and safety of his arms.

    I’m seeing so much clearer
    Looking through your eyes
I could never find a safer place
    Even if I tried
All the times I’ve needed you
    You’ve never left my side
I’m clinging to your every word
    Don’t ever let me go
    Don’t let go

He won’t let me go, Kairi thought as the song played on. After everything they had been through, he would never leave her and she would never leave him. Couldn’t he see that it was their destiny to be together?

    And I’m here to stay
    Nothing can separate us
    And I know, I’m ok
    You cradle me gently
Wrapped in your arms.... I’m home

The final verse repeated again, but Kairi didn’t listen to it. She leaned into Sora’s chest, sighing. There was no feeling like this...this love. It felt like Kairi was worth something to Sora. Of course she had known that before, but feeling it was different. Sora hugged her tightly, not letting her go.

It was funny; Kairi hated it when couples had their own songs. And yet, in her mind, she kept saying ‘this is our song’.

The music ended too soon. Sora smiled and let go, his eyes never unlocking from hers. They stood there for a minute, even after the next song had begun. Everyone around them was yelling and laughing, enjoying the upbeat music. It didn’t matter though; they were in their own world. Nothing else mattered.

    And then Sora walked away.

Kairi stood still and watched him weave his way out of the crowd. It was then that Kairi realized that she was still holding her breath. She let out her breath and took in another, her lungs feeling relieved. How could a boy cause her to go so crazy? It was as if she was under his spell. But she didn’t mind; she loved him with all her heart. Did he feel the same?

The room around Kairi was loud, but all Kairi heard was silence as she turned around and left the room. She weaved her way through the crowd of people, who all seemed to be watching her as she tried to leave. “Excuse me.†She mumbled politely as she went past a group of her school friends. They moved aside but still kept an eye on Kairi. She brought a hand to her face and found that it was wet with tears. No wonder everyone was staring at her. Kairi finally broke free of the group and went towards the bathroom.

I look horrible, she laughed at her image in the mirror. Her makeup had begun to run from the tears. She grabbed some tissues and wiped the mascara off from underneath her eyes. She threw away the dirty tissue and grabbed a new one to wipe away the tears that had stained her cheeks. Kairi prayed that they would disappear. She looked in the mirror and saw that they had. Her eyes locked on her reflection. It was...different. It looked as if she had matured just because she was 18 now. Or maybe it was because she felt so different on the inside. Now...she was in love. She had no doubts about it. Even if he didn’t love her back, she loved him with a fiery passion she had never felt before. Her face glowed with the radiance that the feeling produced. Her eyes shone with joy. She smiled at herself and went back out to the party.

    ******
The rest of the night was the most fun Kairi had ever had. She danced with Selphie. She danced with Namine. She danced some more with Sora. She had never smiled so much in one night. Or felt such joy when Sora took her hand. The way that he looked at her made her feel like she would melt into a puddle. His eyes always locked with hers and broke through her invisible wall, seeing right into her soul. But for once, she didn’t mind. He wanted him to see what she was feeling.

She did notice something, looking into his eyes. He was overjoyed too. His laughter was really, his goofiness alive and active. But something else lingered behind his shining blue eyes. Kairi didn’t know what it was, but he almost seemed anxious about something. Of course, nobody else could tell, but she could sense it as if she were in his mind. She didn’t let it bother her though. It’s probably because he wants tonight to go well, Kairi reasoned as the party continued through the night. He was having so much fun. Nothing could have been wrong.

And then, towards the end of the party, he walked up to her and took her hand.

“Would you like to go outside?†He asked, seeming a little more serious than he had been moments ago.

Kairi squeezed his hand and nodded. Sora silently led her outside and down the beach. The beach was completely dark except for the glow of the stars and moon. It was after 11 P.M. Kairi’s heals dug into the soft sand. She let go of his hand and quickly slipped off her shoes, throwing them by Sora’s porch. She walked faster to catch up with him again. Her dress dragged a little in the sand. Kairi picked it up and went to Sora, who had stopped by a large rock that stuck out of the sand. Kairi dropped her shoes into the sand and looked into Sora’s eyes. “What’s wrong?â€

“Nothing.†His eyes softened. He gently put a hand to her face and stroked it with his thumb. “I just wanted to be with you.†Sora leaned down and kissed her on the forehead. Kairi’s heart felt like it would burst. She smiled and leaned into his chest, grabbing him around his waist. A smile spread across her face when Sora’s arms wrapped around her.

Kairi screamed when Sora suddenly took her off her feet and held her in his arms. “What’re you doing!?†Kairi laughed as she stared into those mischievous blue eyes. He grinned down at her, laughter in his eyes. “Sora, you’re such a dork.†They both started to laugh again.

After their laughter had settled down, Kairi looked into his face again and wrapped her arms around his neck. Sora smiled widely at her and gently shift her in his arms. He slowly lowered her to the ground, setting her gently in the soft sand. Then he sat down beside her. He wrapped his arm around her. Kairi sighed as she leaned against him, staring out at the dark sea. The full moon glowed in the sky, reflecting off the clear ocean water. Above them, the sky was lit with millions of stars.

A cool wind blew across the beach. When Kairi shivered, Sora held her tighter. Kairi smiled and leaned her head against his shoulder, her eyes filling with tears. This was what love was. Sora was always looking out for her, even in small cases like this. He would always be there for her, even if their destinies took them separate ways.

Destiny. She hadn’t thought about that dream all night. That voice had guided her through those trials for some reason...something to do with her future. But Kairi shoved away the thoughts without regret. From then on, Kairi was going to live her life day by day, prepared for the future but not obsessing over it. Whatever happened would happen. Life would go on anyway, and Kairi would go along with it. She wouldn’t miss a moment of life with worries or doubt. She put her trust in fate.

The wind blew again, sending a lock of Kairi’s red hair into her eyes. Sora gingerly tucked it behind her ear again. Kairi snuggled in closer to him and continued to look out at the ocean. The waves crashed quietly against the shoreline, creating a serene scene. There was nobody that Kairi would have rather been with. She looked up at Sora.

The boy was staring out at the sea, his blue eyes reflecting the moonlight. His face looked very serious, but calm at the same time. He didn’t look like the same boy that he had been a few years ago. But then again, both of them had changed a lot recently. Sora seemed to have grown up, and Kairi became stronger and more courageous. They had both changed for the better.

They both sat there in silence for a long while, just staring out at the ocean. The moon began to move across the sky, showing the passing of time.

Sora squeezed her shoulder. “Let’s go back up.†Kairi nodded and watched Sora get up and dust the sand off his tux. He offered a hand to Kairi, which she gratefully took hold of. The sand hadn’t stuck to her dress at all. It was official: that was the best dress EVER. Kairi giggled and looked into his eyes. He smiled back and held her hand tighter as they began to walk back to his house. Even though they were kind of far away, Kairi could see a few guests still lingered outside on the porch. They se be watching them. No, they were probably watching the ocean. It was a beautiful night.

Sora suddenly let go of her hand and stopped walking. Kairi stopped too and turned around. “What’s wrong?†She stared into his bright blue eyes. He stared back at her.

“Do you love me?†He asked quietly, not timid or nervous, just quiet.

“With all my heart.†Kairi responded without delay.

“Then will you do something for me?†His face was unreadable.

    “Sure, anything.â€

Sora got down on one knee and took a small white box out of his pocket. Kairi held her breath.

    “Will you marry me?â€

Wow. Completely insane! Very well done, and definately an unexpected ending. At first I was a little annoyed at the no date, but this was definately better than it would have been otherwise.

I'm SO glad you guys like it! =DD. As for an epilogue, I'm not sure what I'll do at the moment. I was thinking about doing that or an alt. ending, but now that this fanfic is officially done, I'm kind of glad. I'm not sure if I'll be doing anything else. I'll let you guys know when I make up my mind =).

I've gotta tell you guys something: I write with my heart. Some chapters with the revolations and self discovery seem better than the rest of the story because I put myself into those situations. I wrote that last chapter with the theme "Live today or you'll have too many wasted yesterdays" because that's what I need to focus on for myself. So that's why some chapters were better than others.

How could we not like something this good? 8D

You did a really good job, Im proud of my premmy twin x3
    xD

So true with the "some chapters turn out better thing". Personal experience helps feed your creativity and stuff you can relate to comes much easier if you're writing.

Also, the “Maybe I should really start living for today. If I keep worrying about all my tomorrows, then I’ll have too many wasted yesterdays.†thing, did you make that up yourself? Its genius 8D
Seriously I practically want to live by that saying now O_O

If you write an epilogue I want to be first in line to read it ;D

I know it's terrible that I'm just now getting to the ending of this story, but I couldn't stop once I started. Which resulted in me reading this for almost 5 hours. Such long chapters! xD

But, holy crap, that last line was the best. Seriously, I can't get over it. It was just freakin' perfect. I'm pretty sure my obsession with this couple--or just Sora--doubled. x3 But, gosh, girl, that was the best ending ever to a fanfiction! I'm so impressed, and greatly adore it.

You did an excellent job. I was surprised at how far the fanfic had gone, and how much it had changed, but it was definitely worth the read. Especially the last chapter...and the last line. =3 (Yes, I still can't get over it... =P)

Great job, hun. A successful, addictive, adorable story. I'm pretty sure that I've just gotten inspiration for my RoxasXNamine story now. ;D
