Soooo yeah, when I saw the "Wizard of Oz" and "prequel" in the same sentenced, I was just like :why?:

But I actually have high hopes for this project if they go through with it. I really love the original story of The Wizard of Oz, and I want to see what they can make of it.

I just severely hope they don't unforgivably screw with it. :B|:

FUCKKKKKKK. If this 'twisted' style is actually an original style and not Tim Burton style I will be ok with this.
But anyways why is everyone flying around 'Wicked'? *hur hur witch pun* Lets just adapt Wicked and we will be done. ORRRRR Why not someone make a new Wizard of Oz? Something alot more closer to the original book(s)?

I'm sure Robert Downey Jr. would be able to pull off any role. But the writing had better be decent, or it will suck.

Personally, I think The Wizard of Oz is such a classic, that it should be deemed untouchable. No Prequels, Sequels, spin-offs. Ever.

I believe the musical Wicked was a prequel, although I haven't seen it so I'm not sure. There's also a miniseries/tv movie called "Tinman" that's a weird sort of interpretation on the Wizard of Oz. I haven't seen all of it, but it was pretty messed up from what I saw. It does however have a 7.1/10 on IMDb, which is good in IMDb standards. I'm not too worried. It's just if anyone attempts to do a remake of the original movie, I will raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaage.

Yeah, when I read the title of this thread I thought, Isn't that just Wicked? But I've forgotten about the other books that have been written with "The Wizard of Oz" as the influence. "Wicked" has been an excellent prequel musical (though it deviates significantly from the book, too), but I'm not sure about this movie. I'm not that big on Burton's "Alice" and I'm worried this movie could be a bit disappointing if the "twisted style" is put on it similarly. And I'm never big on well-known celebs being used for these kinds of movies either (most of the time it is just bait). Of course, they'll make it 3D, too (bleh...).

Except there is already a sequel and the musicals such as Wicked are also part of it's universe.

It's too early to tell if it'll be bad, it's not something you want to hear especially after seeing Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland "sequel".

    WTF!?!?!?

Yet ANOTHER live action Disney movie... though having RDJ in it pleasantly surprised me.

Regardless having Raimi directing a movie with Downey Jr. in it that involves such a beloved franchise (with a company with so much money behind it) will undoubtedly be either hit or miss (crosses fingers that it'll be a hit).
