You don't have to be an apologist for the series. I already expect most fans to disagree with me. I know they have a small team to work with. I know how hard it is to animate things (hell, the typography video I made that won at a high school film festival took me around a month.)

And I already understand the reason why those characters are like that. I did watch it too, actually. However, it doesn't make it any more enjoyable. Ruby may or may not be crushing on him, but the way it's been gone about right now, I wouldn't know exactly which way it's going, so I'm going with the assumption that in most shounen anime, has been correct.

It is funny you bring up Journey. It shows that you don't need to stick to typical techniques in order to tell a riveting story. But the reason Journey worked was because it understand what it wanted to say, when to say it, and how to say it. RWBY, though, feels like it doesn't know what to do half the time: with more than half of the episodes we've seen barely having any substantial conflicts to move the story forward (mainly it was Ruby and Weiss, and even that got boring to me.)

I don't want to sound like a hater, because I'm not. I came into the series with a lot of optimism and hope, and I actually do enjoy the series' better moments, but I won't excuse its flaws just because it's not a big-name series. That wouldn't be proper critique.

It is actually funny you say Journey doesn't stick to typical techniques when in of itself its story is the most overdone one in history. It is the Hero's Journey, the most archetypical form of storytelling. Not that I'm saying that's a bad thing.

I know you aren't a hater, I'm just trying to being the cool, handsome foil critical opposite in order to get a discussion out of you. :D
I recognize and will freely admit that the series has its flaws, what doesn't? I challenge anyone to find a flawless show/game/movie/etc.

I'll elaborate then specifically then. Because DUR with the Hero's Journey >.>

It avoids telling you what's going on, instead making you figure it out on your own (not in a bad way though.) There's no exposition, or no relationships between characters that feel forced. There aren't archetypical characters, mainly because there aren't really characters per say, more so vessels for the player(s). There's a lot it does differently

I'm not at all saying that there are series without flaws, but I brought up the ones in this series because they just pop up so much that it really makes it difficult for me to enjoy some parts, and that's a terrible disappointment when I was really looking forward to it, as I said before.

A well-written series with likable characters, awesome fight scenes, catchy music, and an engaging plot.

So far I've gotten two of those things.

Two out of four ain't bad. I'm sure the series will improve as it goes on.

It ain't bad, but it's harder for me, personally, to get hooked when I can just go watch something else that does all of these things, and better.

Enough on criticizing the series though, I really would love if the team released some sort of Official Soundtrack, especially if they're released (fingers crossed) for free.

To each their own I suppose.

There probably will be an Official soundtrack if it hasn't already been made. You could probably find it on iTunes. I've got some tracks from Red vs. Blue from there, shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

The music from all the trailers and the first episode have all been released on itunes and amazon, they're actually all in the first post of this thread. Sadly they're not free. Unfortunately the new music from the latest ep has yet to be released.

For your ease, here's the link to the youtube vids of each of the songs with links to itunes and amazon in the description from the OP.

EDIT: They are releasing a CD in October with all of the music. They are not releasing several of the songs until then as he doesn't want people to pay for them twice. Also the song in episode 8 is not the full version and we only heard part of the song as the full version is unfinished, they're still working on it, which is another reason why they haven't released it yet.

EDIT 2: Actually they'll be releasing the song from ep 8 (Red Like Roses Part 2) later this week but it'll be the incomplete version. Also this was said 3 days ago so later this week could mean today or tomorrow. http://roosterteeth.com/members/journal/entry.php?id=3081203

So far from episode 1 to 8 (I only watch when it's released on YouTube), I can safely say it's entertaining, not perfect, but I blame some of that on episode content and length rather than content. It's an easy watch, not overly complex and rather 'simple'.
It's what CSI is to me, or Castle, an overdone genre, with basic characters and basic plots that have charm. RWBY has great action scenes, charming visuals and an easy to follow plot. I'll admit, the writers focus a little bit too much on telling the audience what's going on instead of showing them, like relationships between characters, it's an overuse of dialogue in many ways. It's not trying to be more than it is, and I respect that.

I'll watch it, i'm not a big fan but I enjoy it and that's all that matters, bottom line.

edit: Well... I wonder if the episode is any good. As of the moment of writing this edit my computer won't play any blip videos. Not sure why. Hopefully I'll get to watch it soon. :\

I CANNOT HANDLE THE AMOUNT OF ADORABLE THIS EPISODE HAD.

And as far as Weiss's anger goes, it wasn't horribly unrealistic, it was just a bit too much for barely the first day. I can understand her feelings. She always got what she wanted and is used to that, but then she suddenly loses out to a kid. Worse yet-- a kid like Ruby. She has what it takes to be a great leader with the right amount of character development, and Weiss has the makings of a great supporter on the team. They both just need to meet halfway and understand that Ruby will always be the youngest and a kid at heart, and that Weiss will always be bossy and want to lead.

I guess cause it's an anime-like, but still wasn't expecting to branch out further than YouTube and RoosterTeeth.

They do and on crunchyroll, it has consistently been on the top two lines (top 8) of their most popular shows, getting as high up as second most popular with episode 8. They tweeted about that when it did.
