Running Edge

Mya bit her lip, not sure what to do. How about Kurisu and I go after Ryku, making sure he doesn't do anything stupid?

 

Lynne's eyes drifted shut. She didn't have the energy to keep with the conversation anymore. By now, to her blurred vision, Kaleb looked exactly like Ryku and it unnerved her.

 

alex looked between mya and kurisu suspiciously. it was obvious something was going on there, but now wasn't the time to discuss it. she sighed and nodded her head, agreeing with mya.
"don't stay gone too long though. i think we've all been apart for too much time. we definitely need to talk about what's been going on. i need to take care of lynne. my place when you're done spying on ryku?"
she looked at mya almost pleading. too much has happened to them all in the last couple days. as much as they would hate it, everyone needs to take a breather and spend a day recovering.

kaleb could tell that he had one with lynne for now, but it wouldn't be long before she brought it all up again- and in front of everyone else. he stood there waiting for further instruction. she was getting heavy in his arms as her body started to go limp from drowsiness and knew it would be a long walk back to wherever they were headed.

 

Ryku shuffled along the street rather lazily, fiddling with the bomb. Lazard must know EBO would get involved in this with Hikaru and Kaoru being hired. Inside a Runner...well, there's a new low for you.

 

Mya nodded and grabbed Kurisu's arm. Let's get going. We don't want to lose sight of him. She dragged him along after Ryku.

 

"Hey! Tch... be careful, that's where I was shot before." Kurisu moaned as he let himself be dragged away. Of course this wasn't as bad as he made it out to be, he was tougher than that. This was to serve the purpose of making it look like to the others everything was normal and he was still playing the fool like his usual self sometimes did.
When he was dragged out of earshot from the others, he kept his voice low as he spoke to Mya. "Is it just me or is there something going on with Alex? I mean, did you see the way she looked at us when you suggested we go after EBO boy?"

 

Ryku kept his pace steady. His mind off somewhere else as he stared at the bomb in his hands. How odd... Is your research really that important to you Lazard? Credit...is it all for credit? No...there has to be something more." Sighing, he rounded a corner and crouched down on the side of the street. Setting the bomb down, he flipped open the lid and curled his fingers around the red wire. Yanking it out, he set to tying the copper wires together and wrapping it around into a point and shoving it back into the hole he'd pulled the red wire from. His fingers set on the strip of leather bound around a small chip around his neck and yanked it off. Wiggling the chip from it's leather bindings, he inserted it into a small slit inside the metal casing, underneath all the wires. A series of clicks started and a tiny green light blinked on. Changing to yellow, it hummed and a little metal flap opened on the side of the entire device. "Huh."

 

alex watched sullenly as mya and kurisu walked away. she sighed and turned to face kaleb. he wasn't the person she wanted to look at right that moment, but it was time to get lynne back to her house.
"let's go."
she started hobbling down the stairs in the elevators were still not working. taking cabs weren't her favorite form of travel but figured it would be best for everyone if they got back quickly.

kaleb followed behind alex trying to hold lynne up without falling down the two flights of stairs. he could see her stumbling down the steps and holding onto the railing as if her life depended on it and right now it probably did.

After searching for a while now, Ren decided to call and see if anyone else had any luck. Taking his phone out of his pocket, he decided to call Alex.

 

alex felt her phone vibrating in her pocket. when she went to reach for it she almost stumbled down the stairs. alex caught her grip as she made it down the first flight of stairs. she reached into her pocket and checked the caller i.d. she saw it was ren and flipped it open to answer it.
"go for alex."

kaleb saw alex stop after the first flight down the stairs. there was still another flight to go, but it appeared that she was on the phone. all he wanted was to set lynne down. he wasn't sure how long he would have to carry her for.

 

Mya shrugged. I dunno. Maybe she's suspicious of us somehow. She continued running until she rounded a corner and saw Ryku which then she backed around and spied around the corner. She then whispered so he couldn't hear. The hell is he doing? Looks like he's trying to do something with the bomb. Lights just went on. He's not planning to re-ARM it is he?

 

"Somehow I doubt that even he is that stupid..." Kurisu whispered from next to her. "But... something is up... even he looks a little surprised... Let's try to sneak closer for a better look?" he suggested.

 

Ryku reached a finger into the small opening and pulled out a glowing bottle of green fluid. Ryku swallowed hard and slipped his fingers back under the bomb, retrieving the little chip and placing it in his coat pocket. Standing, Ryku shook the bottle lightly and frowned at it. "Son of a..." His thoughts raced in his head, This can't be...his research. He wasn't going to blow up Lynne, but start an infection.

 

"Hey Alex, any luck on finding Lynne yet?" He asked.

 

"yeah. she's taken care of. we're meeting at my place. see you there."
alex hung up the phone and started hobbling down the next flight of stairs so that they could get out of the store. when they finally exited the store she flagged down a cab. alex got it first and then helped kaleb set lynne down in the center carefully, so not to rip any stitches. when he climbed inside she gave the cabbie directions to her house and then pulled out some cash from her pocket.

when the cab ride ended kaleb watched as alex handed the driver some money and then shuffled out and tried to pull lynne out with hurting her. he couldn't wait to get away from her. as much as he didn't want to, kaleb needed to put his gun away before lynne could tell everyone about it. it would be easier to play it off if it wasn't on him. he picked her up and started to carry her to the door.

 

"Got it." Ren replied hanging up the phone and placing it in his pocket. He didn't feel like walking all the way there do he did the next best thing,. Taxi. Once he had found a taxi and got it to stop, he gave the driver the address and enjoy the ride.

 

alex hobbled up to sidewalk and opened the door to let kaleb and lynne inside. she watched as he set her down on the table that kevin was on the night before. when inside alex locked the door and hurried over to lynne. she started hooking up various tubes and wires and within a couple minutes the living room looked like a make-shift hospital room. alex stuck an i.v. in lynne's hand to ensure that she stayed hydrated and went about to check her vitals.

kaleb sat down on the couch and watched as alex went to town. he couldn't believe how quickly she worked. he was actually kind of amazed. she was very focused and moved with exact precision.

BIC: Mya strained to see what Ryku was doing. She did see him shake a small vial around. Kurisu, you see anything what he's doing? I only see him shaking around something.

 

Once alex was done getting lynne hooked up she tried waking her. She had been out cold since her passing out in the department store.

Kaleb noticed alex trying to wake lynne and decided he needed to dispose of his gun before that happened.
"do you mind if I step out for a minute?"
He watched as she rolled her eyes and and nodded before walking out the front door. Kaleb decided now was as good a time as any to finally light up his last cigarette. He smoked it slowly as he walked home.

 

Lynne's eyes opened briefly, "You have to be kidding me...back in the hospital. Thanks Alex. Oh...where's Mya?"

Ryku crushed his foot into the metal covering of the bomb and put all his weight on it, crushing it flat. He felt pissed now and was positive that Demitri would feel the same when he told him about their father's actions. "Pandora...lovely, just lovely. Dem's not gonna like this even if his small brain can't comprehend it." Pocketing the vial, Ryku glanced behind him, nearly believing his paranoia that the Runners had followed him before setting off down the street again, heading for home.
