Running Edge

Kurisu gave Mya a reassuring hug. "It's because she's a runner... she's as stubborn as we all are, it's just a trait we share. Sometime's it's useful... sometimes it's not... but it should also keep her alive. After all, she certainly is stubborn." he told her.
He sighed and went to a vending machine and put in some coins, he came back with a few drinks for people, he gave one to Mya. "Here... It's gonna be a long night."

 

{ooc: kaleb's outside of alex's house not at the hospital, but oh well}

kaleb didn't want to think about the thought of demitri dieing of ryku getting shipped off to some other location, but he knew it was something that couldn't be ignored.
"don't worry, you have my word. i'll be there for demitri no matter what, but i should probably go back inside before they start to think i left. that would only cause problems if one of them came out and saw me standing here talking to you."
he gave his old friend one last long look and a quick hug before grabbing the handle to the front door.
"you should get some rest soon ryku, you look like hell."

alex felt weird finally sharing how she felt with someone. talking to her mirror just didn't cut it, but she never wanted to become so involved. it's a dangerous profession they are all in and getting attached would just make the job harder.

bic: Ryku sighed heavily and though secretly relished the only human contact that he got in his line of work that was friendly and backed away from him. "Kaleb...be careful. Yesterday, Demitri was unwilling to shoot at you. I won't.... I can't afford to treat you any differently than them." Though Ryku hated talking to his friend this way, he needed it to be known. "I'll be working harder than ever to get my paycheck." With that paycheck he could afford Demitri's extremely expensive medicine. How could I have fallen so low....

 

Mya smiled and took the drink. Thanks. Man being in the hospital depresses me. I'm gonna head for the rooftop. Wanna join me?

 

Kurisu took a big gulp of his drink. "Yeah.. I can do that I guess."
It's not like they were any help standing around here... unfortunately...

 

OOC: Sorry, I wrote a big reply and didn't notice it hadn't posted.

BIC: Hanna leaned forward and put her hand on Alex's knee, "Hey, don't worry, you're as much a part of the team as any of us. In fact I'm pretty sure we all owe you our lives at one point or another. You care so much, it wouldn't be fair on you if you did more and it would make the rest of us look bad. But no, you don't need to run through burning building's to prove yourself, you already have done many times over and I don't see why you would want to. Sometimes I really envy your job, though I don't think I could do what you do. We all see you as a key member of the team and you're never useless. Of course we want you there, just see it as a break. Sometimes we all need a little help and you deserve it. So don't worry."

 

Mya leaned on the railing on the roof of the hospital, seeing the city lights far away. It's nice being up here. The breeze feels nice once it comes in. She took a sip of her drink.

 

Kurisu sat on the railing instead of leaning. "Yeah... I know what you mean...
It's one of the things I love about running, how you can just feel the breeze whip by you."

 

Kevin sat quietly staring at the cup in his hand, he was dazed, in deep thoughts. He sighed and finally drank the water. He then set the cup down on the floor near the table. He silently clasped at his chest wincing as a streaking pain came and gone. He then went into his deep thoughts agian and began to think over all of today's happenings and all the things he caused. "It's all my fault isn't it?" he asked himself so quietly no one else could hear him.

 

She sighed and sat on the railing next to him. This isn't working is it? Every action we do only brigs more violence and hate which is opposite. We need supporters. We can't win if the people can't rally to our side.

 

Kurisu also sighed. "I dunno Mya..." he said and took another sip from his drink.
"All I know is... This is how I've been raised since young... Just a kid, ya know?
I'm gonna keep doing the only thing I know... Running.
You may call it a blind move... but it's all I can do.
The only difference is... if I can help it. I'm gonna make sure that what happened to Lynne never happens again.."

 

Mya nodded. You're right. We should all keep our motives. We need to keep going no matter how bleak the result may be.

 

Kurisu stretched and winced at his arm.
"Fact is... as long as we're still alive. We just gotta keep running, at least that's what I think." he told her with a wink.

 

alex smiled a little at hanna.
"thanks, but i would really appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone."
she turned and looked at kevin who was lost in his own world.
"that goes the same for you. this is our secret."
alex grabbed hanna's hand and pulled her upright.
"i think we should all head to bed now. it has been waaay too long of a day and we could all use a very long rest."

kaleb wasn't happy with what ryku had said to him, but he knew it was necessary. that was the risk of taking on this mission, he needed to keep his cover and part of that cover is understanding the fact that if his best friend had to pull a gun on him then he needed to let it happen. kaleb just hoped that day would never come. if it did, his cover would definitely be blown, because he wouldn't let it happen. he would pull his guns out of their holsters under his jacket and reveal the truth.
"i understand. good luck, ryku. i hope that never happens,but if it does i'll be ready."
with that he turned and entered the house without looking back.

 

Ryku kept walking away from his friend. A part of his heart tugged at his words but his job required him to ignore it. Right....my job... he sighed loudly, "What a day!" Ryku rubbed his eyes and shut the door to his home softly. Demitri was snoring loudly on the couch. Like usual, he'd tried to get up and find his decanter. Ryku frowned...he usually found it, wherever Ryku would hide it. This time, nothing was moved and instead Demitri clutched a can of Ryku's lemonade in his hand. "I see....you're going to quit...." he smiled and covered his dear younger brother with a blanket.

Lynne listened to the doctors fret over her again and again. She didn't understand all the words they used but she got the point. She wasn't to move around until they said so. If she got up again, they'd restrain her. Lynne sighed, touching her wound and frowned. She'd have one ugly scar on her forever...

 

Mya smiled and nodded. You're right. Things have to move on. She tossed her can away. The few out there depend on us.

 

Kurisu smirked. "You've grown as a person."
Of course, he remembered when she had first joined the Runners, he remembered when a lot of the current members first joined actually.
"Everyone's grown, we're the only ones who can do what we do, and we do it well.
We have an occasional off day, but we can't let it get us down, we just gotta get back up and continue what we were doing." he said draining his can of drink also and tossing it in the same direction Mya had.
"I dunno why I'm even saying that, it just makes me sound old, and what... we're like the same age, some members are older than me, heh... but yeah."

 

kaleb entered the house uncomfortably. he didn't really want to be there, but knew leaving wasn't much of an option, so he sat down on the couch and closed his eyes. he fell asleep almost immediately. the days events replayed in his mind over and over again as he slept. his mind was like a broken proejctor. the same snap shots just kept flashing, never moving onto the next scene.

alex laid kevin down. it appeared as if he was too lost in the guilt and misunderstanding of the days events to really do much. she pressed his shoulders and gently forced his upper-body to lie on the massage table. she made sure there was a pillow underneath his head and put the blanket back on him. she spoke to him softly and gingerly.
"try to get some rest okay? you're going to need it."
she signaled hanna to follow her down the hallway to her bedroom. on the way there she shut off the living room light, so that they could sleep in peace. alex also pulled out her cellphone upon entering the bedroom. she began texting mya.
MYA, EVRY1 IS DO'N WELL HERE. FINALLY GETTING THEM ALL 2 BED. HOW R THINGS @ THE HOSPITAL? -ALEX

 

Hanna smiled watching Alex put hhim to sleep, and followed her quietly down the corridor. It had been a long day and sleep would be very welcome.

OOC: I love how it says on the first post, all phones and emails and stuff are monitered, one of the roles of the runners is to get messages around without being monitered. Yet they're all using phones.

alex shut her phone after sending the message and turned on the light in the bedroom. she walked over to the bed and pulled the covers down. then she stepped into her walk-in closet, turned the light on and opened her dresser drawers. she pulled out a pair of pajamas for herself and hanna. she changed in the closet where she was out of sight and then stepped out to hand the pajamas to hanna.
"here you go. i hope they fit."
