Running Edge

Demitri tried to stand and Ryku pulled him back down. "Stay still you big oaf or do I have to incapacitate you too?" He met Kurisu's glare with a cold, calculating smile. "As you wish...Your Highness." he mocked and returned to tending Demitri's still seeping wound.

Lynne breathed in the pure oxygen from the mask on her face and opened her blurry eyes. The numb feeling was still there and whatever the paramedics were saying was muffled and far off sounding. A small light shone in her eyes and an odd heavy pressure weighed down on her chest. "Where am I?" she asked, looking for someone familiar, but her words were muffled by the oxygen mask.

 

alex opened her phone to read the message from kevin. she then looked at lynne who had just opened her eyes.
"hey there. calm down lynne, were still in the ambulance, but the hospital is right in front of us. they'll be taking you out any minute."
alex held the phone screen down by lynne's face.
"look, hanna and kevin are all right. he just sent me a message. i'm probably gunna take a look at them though, make sure they're in tip-top shape."
she smiled as the paramedics opened the doors to the ambulance. everything was going to be all right. they all made it out okay. maybe not in the best of conditions, but okay none-the-less. she stepped out of the ambulance after the gurney and replied to kevin's message. letting him know who was taken to the hospital and what happened outside of the burning house. after sending it she decided to send another one to him and to hanna.

kaleb looked at hanna and smiled.
"of course i do. you can't scare me off that easily."
he started patting kevin on the back to help him breathe easier. after all that happened that night, the last thing he wanted was for one of them to die from asphyxiation.
"sorry i couldn't be of much help. i tried to help that girl lynne, but i was clearly outranked. i got the window open at least. so that you could get in."

 

"Good, well this was one of our worst days." She said, answering his previous question though she stopped as he mentioned Lynne and frowned, "Lynne? What happened to her? What happened after I went in?" She felt her phone vibrate but ignored it for now, she wanted to know what had gone on. She'd heard the sirens and gunshots, had Lynne been...and she thought it couldn't get much worse. Now she just wanted to know what had gone on, a slight panic crept into her voice, "Is she alright? Is everyone okay?"

 

Kevin read the text on his phone and stiffened up. It's all my fault...I screwed everything up...everyone got hurt because of me...oh god...I can't do anything right any more... thought Kevin, he grasped his chest as he collasped onto his knees still coughing like crazy. It's my fault...I bet Mya's angry with me...It's all my fault... Kevin punched the pavement harshly, and a pain shot up his arm, he looked down and re noticed the cuts from the glass and from the debris in his house...which was now pretty much all ashes now. His knuckles were bleeding from when he punched the pavement. First i screwed up in the plaza and now I screwed up agian... His body then began to tremble as a violent coughing fit came agian, I'm useless aren't I? He ignored both Hanna and Kaleb, being too lost in his own thoughts. All I ever do now is screw up... I am a failure of a runner...but...please let the others, especially Lynne be alright... Kevin texted Alex back dispite his on going coughing fit.

I'LL MAKE SURE HANNA COMES TOO...

He then also texted the other runners, except for Hanna who was beside him.

I'M SORRY I CAUSED ALL THIS...LECTURE ME ALL YOU WANT...I DESERVE IT...

 

"Kevin! Kevin, get a grip!" Hanna shouted as she tried desperatly to get him to calm down and help his coughing. She hoped some of the other runners were still around and would come round to help, but she wasn't counting on it. She put her arm round him, half to support and comfort him to get him to calm down, but also to restrain him slightly without him noticing so he didn't hurt himself.

 

Kurisu heard his message tone go off in his pocket...
He slowly picked out his phone and looked at it.
Kevin...
He looked at Mya.
"...I don't think it's his fault.
We've all had relatively tough lives.. and circumstances.
Kevin just... wanted to go home... I think we've all felt that way at some point. Whether it's possible or not."
...Kurisu slowly stood, gripping his arm with the paper towels.
"...We should probably find them.. eh?"

 

Kevin looked at Hanna as his coughing fit ended, his eyes were distant and his face was emotionless.

 

Hanna frowned, somthing wasn't right. "Kevin. Can you hear me? Kevin, look at me!" She shook him gently by the shoulders, this wasn't good and she didn't know what to do. She cared for Kevin and she hated seeing him like this. "We've already escaped, don't go doing this now" She was never going to think, 'things can't get any worse' ever again, she swore to herself.

 

Kevin's body was aching especially his chest, as he began to cough agian. It's...all...my...fault... He gripped his chest agian as a severe pain came from that area. He gasped in pain, he soon began to cough violently agian, this time it was shorter. "Sorry..." muttered Kevin, still in his daze, "I'm sorry..."

 

Hanna internally sighed in relief, "It's okay, thank god you're okay. I think Alex should take a look a you though." She said with a slight smile, breathing heavily. "Let's get you up and to help"

 

Kevin stood up, nodding, to weak to speak, his chest really hurt. Oh...yeah...none of them know I have asthma... He coughed a little into his sleeve, which was torn by glass. This time it wasn't as violent.

 

Hanna nodded and held out her arm for support, now that she wasn't so worried about Kevin she realised her chest did hurt but she couldn't worry about that now. She vaguely knew the way to fnd Alex and currently she didn't know who else whould know how to help him.

 

"Alew is at the hospital..." said Kevin weakily, falling silent, "with Lynne...from what she told me she'll be fine...Lynne I mean...Alex wants us to go to her house..."

 

Ryku whistled and several other, lower ranked, EBO's sprinted to pick up Demitri. "Careful now...the big idiot is injured." Demitri winced and Ryku snarled, "Careful!" They flinched and hurried away with Demitri, around a building and into a van. Ryku arrogantly met each of the Runner's eyes and without smiling, said, "You all are very lucky today. My brother could've killed that girl and I could've killed you all for injuring him. I'll be hunting you all in his place. I'll see you all soon...very soon." He turned on his heel and left them.

 

Mya nodded. Yea. We don't want to chase him down again...She stood up and looked around. It may not be his fault, but what he did almost killed Lynne. I hope he won't be reckless again...

 

Kevin was once again dazed and silent dispite the pain in his chest, he wipped his check, only to wince due to a burn there.

 

Lynne could only observe as the paramedics carried her into the hospital. Her wound burned and she moaned in pain.

 

Sander was on a rooftop, watching the house burn in the distance. [COLOR="#orange"]I wonder how long this will last. Keep up the reckless deeds Runners. The less there are, the easier the job gets. Besides, I only need one of you alive. [/COLOR]He gave one final glance at Mya before walking away.

 

Kevin rubbed his hand gently seeing it was burned from where he had put his hand behind Hanna from when he pulled her out of the house. He winced, and thought to himself, Why do I screw everthing up?

 

Hanna smiled weakly at Kevin, "Stop beating yourself up over it"
