Running Edge

Mya looked around. Hmm. I'm guessing not in the city. Probably in the outskirts.

 

"What's wrong with Kevin?" Hanna asked, running with them, trying to piece together what's happening, "And yeah, you're right. He wants to join"

 

alex paced her living room frantically.i don't know what to do. i'm not nearly as great of a runner as everyone else. i heal people, i don't run. she sighed and ripped the front door open. alex was in such a hurry she accidently left it open, not noticing. as she was running towards town she pulled out her phone and dialed lynne's number. the more people out looking the better. it could just be nothing, but better safe then sorry. alex panted vigouriously as she listened to the ringing.

kaleb put on a big grin and came up alongside kurisu. he turned his head to look at him, while keeping pace. "the names kaleb." he turned his head back to face forward and watch where they were going. "so what's the emergency?"

 

Kira went to a near by store, seeing a lighter, she got an idea. She smiled, should I do it? Of course I should...that gets rid of my problems... she bought the lighter and smirked and walked slowly, taking the detour route back to her house, taking her sweet time thinking about where the fire should begin.

Kevin once agian came back to conciousness, he sighed, "I need to get out of here before she comes back...if she is." Kevin sighed, he looked at the picture that was still in his hands sadly. He then left it on the ground, He sighed, grabbing his crutch and hobbling back to the door. He then got an idea, smiling. He leaned agianst the wall and continuelessly slammed his crutch into the hollow door, easily breaking through it. He then saw multiple things blocking him from opening the door so he planned on making a hole with was big enough to crawl through.

 

Mya looked back. Kevin walked off by himself and no one can contact him. He could be in trouble. As they made their way through the poor district, she looked around. Look for any suspicious looking houses.

 

kaleb nodded with a confused look on his face. "suspicious looking?"

 

"Oh you know... something that looks like it's been steamrolled... Kevin's sis is a bit... uh... how can I put it nicely..." he paused thinking to himself.
"Nope, I just can't... so I won't say anything instead."
Kurisu studied Kaleb... His voice sounds familiar... meh... oh well. he shrugged it off.
"This is why I live back at the safe house anyway... the keyword being 'safe' naturally.
Although... it is fun to live life on the danger side too, it's why we're runners right?"
Naturally, he knew this wasn't all there was to it, many people had different reasons for joining the runners. He was just making talk to bring up his next topic of conversation. He had a feeling Mya would understand what he was aiming for anyway.
"So... Why is it you wanna join us anyway?" Kurisu asked, noticing the smell of Alchohol and Cigerettes.
If he is serious about joining us... he'll need to stop those... or his lungs and liver will fail before any of us have even warmed up."

 

kaleb figured this question would come up again, so calmly he responded."well, like i told hanna here, i would like to join for the same reason i'm sure all, or at least most, runners want to be a runner. i don't agree with the way our government is being run. it's corrupt. what they do to innocent people is wrong." he paused. "oh, and i just have a strong urge for anarchy." kaleb smiled at kurisu. "i'm sure you have your doubts about me, given that it looks like you have all been doing this for quite awhile, so i'm going to assume that most of you must have joined young, but this isn't how i've always felt. which is why i didn't come years ago pledging to be a new recruit, it's only been a couple years and at first i thought that the whole runners thing was just a myth. at least that was what i was lead to believe anyway. so when i found out the truth, i wanted to join. help reak havic and get back at the government that has done so much damage to countless numbers of people. unfortunately it's taken a few months to actually come in contact with any of you runners. you're harder to track down than i imagined. which i guess is a good thing for the sake of your lives."

 

Kevin smiled, the hole was finally large enough to climb through so he did just that, but he was unable to grab his crutch as it fell. He sighed, "Guess I'll get out with out it..." He then used the wall to stay ballanced as he climbed over heeps of broke and flipped chairs and tables. His blood was smearing on the wall a little bit and he slowly made his way to the stairs, seeing it covered in a light layer of oil, and random toys he used to play with when he was a kid. He sighed, and sat down, his head agianst the wall, it was hopeless, he would end up falling down the stairs and breaking another bone if he tried to go down. He punched the floor in anger. "I guess I have to stay here until help comes...if it comes." said Kevin, sighing.


Kira smirked seeing her house off in the distance.

 

alex left lynne a voicemail briefing her on what was going on, when she didn't answer. she tried dialing kevin's number one more time. for all she knew, he was just sleeping so he didn't hear the phone ring.

 

Mya looked around a corner and a house caught her eye. It was all blocked up as if it was meant to keep someone not out but...in. I think I found it guys. She ran towards Kevin's house.

 

alex stopped running for a moment and stood there alongside the city street tapping her foot. answer the phone kevin. proove me wrong, show me that you are fine and that you are not in danger. let me know that i am overreacting. she stood there waiting for the voice she prayed would be come over the speaker.

 

"Yup... that is definitely psycho sis's work." Kurisu muttered following after Mya.
"We best be fast, something tells me she'll be back for the second act." he told them.

 

kaleb nodded and followed after them. he hurried over to the door and started pulling at the wood that was bordering it up. "i'm amazed his sister could seal the place off this extensively in such a small amount of time. who is she anyway?"

 

Hanna ran round to help unblock the door, "That's a good question. I just hope he's okay and we got to him in time"

 

Lynne hurried over rooftops, searching for her friends. Havin listened to Alex's message a hundred times she'd realized how dumb she'd been. The events of Ryku hugging her would have to be put aside later to be analyzed.

Demitir woke from his stupor when he heard the door slam. Ryku stood in the hall facing it. "Hey, did you go somewher? ...Are you alright?" Approaching his brother, he noticed how pale he was. Even for a man who did nothing but sit around all day waiting to shoot something, he was pale. "Ryku? Hey! Dammit!" He helped his brother onto the couch and silently watched him. Growling, he left the house, unknowingly heading for Kevin's old house.

 

"All I can say is... she's bad news...
I don't know too much about her, I know enough to know she's bad news...
I've known Kevin for a while, but... I've never asked really since it's his business, you know?
I've just... well, you saw him earlier, I've seen the state she's left him in on several occasions.
In fact, you know his ankle injury? How he still walks with a limp... That was down to her actually..
Anyway... he's still a fine Runner... and a friend..."
Kurisu looked around... "Looks like the windows are out of the question too..." He started to pulling at the boarded up door.
"Hey Kevin buddy! You in there?!" he called.
He had no doubts that Kevin was still in there... after all, why else would she have decided to leave the house in this state...
this was just to see if the guy was still concious and to try and confirm his whereabouts in the house.

 

Demitri found the Runners in front of Kevin's house. How interesting....my paycheck is back." he smirked and steadied his weapon on his shoulder. Taking aim at the nearest Runner.

Lynne spotted Demitri before her friends and jumped down behind him, "I don't think so!" she cried, kicking the gun from his hand. Demitri turned, his dark eyes hard and grabbed her throat to keep her silent. "Bad move girly..." Lynne couldn't breathe....her vision narrowed and darkened as she scrambled to pry his hand loose.

 

Kurisu heard a clatter, something being dropped... a familiar sound... the sound of a gun.
He spun round instantly, to see a shocking sight. Lynne being held by the throat... by... Demitri?
Kurisu took off running from the door, and headed straight for Demitri. "Hey sick-note! Hands off her!" he shouted, slide tackling Demitri, forcing the man to let go of Lynne.
Kurisu flipped to his feet and delivered a punch to Demitri's jaw, before grabbing Lynne and jumping back a few paces, checking if she was okay. "Hey... looks like you saved our butts.. you okay?" he asked her gently.

He looked at Demitri and said: "Didn't EBO teach you guys some manners?"

 

Demitri was knocked over by Kurisu and quickly got to his feet when the boy did, blocking his punch with his forearm. He'd let go of the girl and now watched her gasp for breath next to Kurisu. "Didn't your mommy ever teach you not to punch sick people?" he smirked and touched his hand to his pistol. "That filthy whore made my brother sick! I know she was the one who left!"

Lynne held her throat and panted. Ryku wasn't well when she left but he was fine for the duration of her visit. "I...didn't...do anything....to him." she wheezed. Kurisu had saved her...but how long would it last?
