Running Edge

Kevin jolted awake suddenly from a night mare. His vision was still a little blurry, and he felt some pain coming from his ankle.

 

Mya continued driving until they arrived at a tall building. She looked back at the others. Here we are. How's his condition?

 

Demitri looked around the bar lazily. He'd already started drinking on the way there so their faces were blurry already. "Hey, bartender, pour me a glass of your finest wiskey!" "I think you've had enough, sir." Demitri glared at him, "I say when enough is enough and right now, I need another drink so cough it up!" The bartender shook his head as he poured a drink for him and moved away. Demitri swallowed it in one gulp and dropped his head onto the bar, "Ah...is it that hard to get a couple of drinks? Jeez..."

Lynne jumped into the van, "Is this really going to work?"

 

Kurisu narrowly avoided a gun shot.
Right... this should be far enough, now time to lose these clowns.
He turned another corner.

The blues followed but when they made it round the corner and looked down the alleyway. There was no sign of anybody.

Kurisu looked down at them from the roof above before backing away slowly. Heh... too easy.
He started leaping rooftops heading back to the others. It would take him a little while to reach them anyway.

 

OOC: Sorry for not posting in a while, I checked it every day just didn't know what to put but now I'm confused and don't have to get back into it.

alex, startled by kevin's sudden jolt into conscientiousness, dropped the forceps and the bullet went rolling. "yeah. kevin should be fine for the moment. i got the bullet out, i just need to stitch him up and bandage him everywhere." she gathered her things and slide the van door open.

kaleb heard a familiar drunken voice on the other end of the bar. "demitri, ya' drunk. sit up." he walked over and sat down by him.

 

Demitri's head shot up and looked over at Kaleb, "Hey, it's Kaleb! OH, wait, I'm not supposed to know you. That's right, Ryku said so. He gets real prissy if I don't do as he says." He started to laugh and slapped Kaleb's back, Alright, all serious now. How....how ya been man. Been a long time since I saw you. Real long." It had only been last week Demitri saw Kaleb at base. But that didn't register to the drunk EBO officer. Black Chaos may have been one of the most feared among Blues and some EBO's, but he was a hard drinker. Which was half why Ryku never let him drink. Secrets came spilling out.

 

Don't worry about bandaging and stitching him up. The doctors and clinics will do that. For now, get him inside. I'll be right back. She jumped out of the van and headed into the building.

 

alex stepped out of the van and threw her bag around her shoulder. she then turned to face the inside and reached in to wrap her arms around kevin's chest to pull him out carefully.

kaleb chuckled. "i've been good. just trying to figure some stuff out. i did tell ryku to keep our friendship on the D.L, but i saw you sitting here and knew i couldn't ignore you quite yet." he picked up his glass that he had brought with him to that side of the bar and took a drink.

 

"Thank you..." said Kevin weakily, getting out of the car with help from Alex. He was really to tired and weak to do it on his own.

 

alex nodded as she heaved him into a standing position. "no problem." she looked around for any medical staff. "can i get a gurney over here please!?!" alex held kevin with one arm and pointed towards them with the other.

 

Mya ran towards Kevin and Alex. Alright. I got some help. She went to Kevin's side and helped him walk into the building.

 

Demitri frowned in his alcohol stupor, "What's that supposed to mean, 'Couldn't ignore you quite yet'? Are you trying to say I'm a loud drunk? Cause Ryku does....he, the idiot, says I drink until I can't quite hear myself talk and talk louder. I think he's full of crap. That's what I think." He took another shot and slammed the glass on the bar hard enough to almost break the glass. "Gimme another one!" he ordered and the bartender still shook his head, pouring him another one. Demitri swallowed that one too and turned glazed dark blue eyes on Kaleb, "So what've you been trying to figure out? Girl problem? Rent issue? Blue's makin' fun of you because you know how to drink?!" he raised his voice a little and scowled over his shoulder at the Blue's playing pool.

 

alex, with mya's help, went to bring kevin up to the building.

kaleb just shook his head no dismissively.
"bartender, i'll take one more; but it's time for my friend here to call it a night."
he looked at demitri and thought about how much fun he was going to miss with his two close friends.
"demitri, i can't really tell you what's going on right now, gotta keep it hush-hush, but i am going to miss you and ryku."
kaleb took a sip of his drink before continuing.
"ignoring you has nothing to do with you being a loud drunk. i just have a real serious assignment to prove my worth; no more grunt work for being the youngest on the force anymore. we're not going to be able to talk for quite awhile. i'm not sure how long exactly. i guess however long it takes for me to do what is necessary. you and ryku have really taught me a lot in these last couple years."
with that he finished his drink, paid the bartender and headed for the door. when kaleb reached the handle he turned back around to say one last thing to his friend.
"if you cut back on the drinking, i'll cut back on the smoking. i know we're both worrying him by doing this. why not give ryku a moment to breathe?"
kaleb walked out the door before demitri could respond.

 

Demitri sobered some after Kaleb left. He sighed and rested his head on the bar. "Hey, buddy you alright?" "Yeah...I guess I've been lying to myself about how much I do like that kid. He's got a point about Ryku needing to breathe though." He stood and swallowed one more shot and paid the bartender, Alright then Kaleb. I'll stop drinking. Not just cut back. I'm done. It's time I played this game with a clear head. he thought before leaving and breathing in the air. "Ah, dammit! Fine Kaleb, anything I can do to help out. I'm your man." he thought aloud and stumbled back home. Ryku had fallen asleep with Demitri's bottle of Jack Daniels on the table next to him. Half empty like always but the glass he'd poured was half empty too. He always was such a lightweight. he thought with a smile.

 

kaleb opened his pack of cigarettes on the way home and stared inside. i have 6 left... as he was walking he found a trashcan and threw three of them away. smoking is a lot harder to quit then drinking. i need to work my way down... kaleb tossed one more out. now there's only two.

 

OOC: Are you guys really that bored? Talking about quitting drugs and alcohol? XD

bic: Lynne followed behind Mya, Alex and Kevin. "Mya...what are we supposed to do now? The day is still young and yet if we go back out there, we'd be tempting the lion again." She didn't exactly know what she was getting at, but Lynne really wanted to investigate Ryku's message. If he meant what she thought he meant, she had a grave choice to make. A potentially dangerous relationship or a brief and equally dangerous one night stand.
