Running Edge

Kevin flinched out of the daze due to Alex's words, "I don't know him...but he looks familar...I think Mya and I saw him earlier..." He looked at his ankle, "I do NOT want to lose my foot...It won't much help if I did."

 

alex smiled. "cute kevin." after examining him she turned to look at everyone else. "we really gotta move. i can't do anything to kevin here without drawing attention. not to mention he's gunna be in a lot of pain when i start to did inside the bottom of his leg to get the bullet out and away from his ankle."

kaleb pulled out his keys to unlock his door. his phone started to ring as he stepped inside. "hello, yeah it's me. no not yet. i'm not sure how i'm going to approach them yet. i realize i need to move quickly but you know the phrase 'make haste not waste.' i don't want to screw this up sir. all right i'll let you know when i'm in." he hung up his cell and opened the refrigerator to pull out some leftovers for dinner. how to get in....how to get in...

 

Kevin cocked his head to the side not really understanding why she had said 'cute Kevin' but then agian, his hazy mind wasn't understanding a lot of things at the moment. He looked at her and gave her a kicked puppy look, "Don't you have pain killers...or something that will dull and or numb the pain while you get the bullet out?"

 

Lynne smiled at them. She was glad Kevin would be alright once Alex got the bullet out.

Ryku made as much noise as he could when he returned, including picking up an ugly vase, (at least one he thought was pretty ugly) and dropped it onto the floor. Demitri jumped. Smiling, Ryku believed he'd been asleep...again. "Go somewhere, clutz?" Coughing, Ryku grabbed the broom and swept up the fragments of the ugly vase, "Yeah, to get your medicine, sickly. Anyway...I'm supposed to tell you to pretend like you don't know Kaleb the next time you see him." Demitri glanced over the back of the couch to stare at his twin, "How come? I actually enjoy picking on the little smoker. Is he still smoking like a chimney?" Ryku sighed, his patience was thinning for his brother. "Yes, actually, he is. Kaleb is going undercover, so he's asked that we not know him."

Demitri smiled and laughed, "That's hilarious! An EBO going undercover to be a Runner? Oh, man, I hope he's got a solid story." Demitri didn't like the idea of one of them going even undercover to become one of them.

 

Mya drank her soda and tossed it away. I'll try nabbing us a van. Best way to transport Kevin. We'll stop at the docks. They have an off day there. We can do all of our duties there. She jumped over a fence and ran towards the public parking lot.

 

"Well, you know what they say." Kurisu said, grinning.
"There is no pain killer like a girls smile or a girls kiss. So who wants to volunteer for poor Kevin here?" he teased.
He was often one of the jokers of the group in such ways like this.
"Anyway, it's best we don't go off alone... so.." Kurisu took off after Mya, also clearing the fence.

 

Kevin sighed and Murmured under his breath, "Why do I even bother?"

 

alex watched mya and kurisu run off. "i do have a little bit of morphine but not enough to completely numb the pain. you will feel some discomfort." she glanced back down into her bag. "i need to stock up and it's getting a lot harder to walk out unnoticed."

kaleb sat downat his kitchen table and stared at his food for a long time before eating. "i could always go the direct approach, but that would look offal suspicious. but can i get one of them alone to tell them i want to join? they seem to separate a lot but not into singles. there's usually always at least a group of two."

 

Mya looked around for anyone nearby. When no one was around, she smashed the van,s window and unlocked it. She then hotwired the car and drove it towards the plaza like a normal driver.

 

Lynne smiled and shook her head. "At least we're not being chased at the moment." She loved doing what they did, but her lack of sleep was wearing on her reflexes. Ryku had almost shot her earlier and she hadn't moved. No one else must know about my affection for that officer. Kurisu and Hanna have got to keep their mouths shut.

 

Kurisu sat in the van with Mya as she drove back.
"I have to say... I don't like stealing per say, but I can't help but think it is cool that we can hotwire vehicles like this. They don't teach that in normal schools." he said with a smirk as he took a sip from his coke.

 

"Anything that will make me feel less pain will be fine." said Kevin. He sighed, his hair was getting on his nerves from how it needed trimed some. He lifted his arms, regreting it as pain shot up his arm. He quickly pulled his hair back, tying it up some, revealing the black markings on the lower part of his neck, and disappearing under his shirt, you could see the marks on his right collar bone and by the base of the right of his neck, both also disapppeared under the shirt. He put his arm down to relieve his arm of the pain from holding it up.

 

alex nodded and watched as mya drove over to them from across the plaza. she then stuck everything back inside of the medical bag and began standing up as they got closer. "you can't be raising that arm. it's going to mess up the way the muscle heals if you move it too much at first."

 

"Ok..." said Kevin, "I won't use it then..." It was going to be a challenge since he was right handed and used his right arm for alot, but he was always up for a challenge.

 

'all right then." alex hung her bag from her shoulder and bent down to help kevin up. she wrapped one arm around his waist and reached to grab his left arm to put it on top of her shoulders to help him stand up.

kaleb put his dishes in the sink and started to head back outside. i think i'll go out for a drink or two. maybe the empty head will help me think. he started to walk to the bar a couple blocks away. i should really invest in a car, but then again it might make me more lazy. i guess i'll save it for a time when walking seems to be a much harder task.

 

"Thanks." said Kevin, as Alex helped him up, he smiled through the pain, and light headedness.

 

"no problem." she pulled him into a standing position. "try not to put too much pressure on your foot. the less weight on it the better."

kaleb walked through the bar door and took a seat at the counter. "jack and coke, please." when his drink was handed to him he paid for it and sipped slowly. i really should just talk to one of them, but can i get one of them alone safely? that's the big question. oh, and even if i get them alone will they listen to me and introduce me to the rest of the group? that's another important one. he sat there quietly and pictured all of the faces of the runners he saw in the plaza earlier. who to choose....??....

 

"okay." said Kevin, yawning, He lifted his hurt foot up to make sure he didn't put any weight on it.

 

Mya shrugged. I'm not stealing. I'll plan to return it if it doesn't get shot up. As she drove, she saw a roadblock ahead with inspection stations. She cursed. Crap. They must've found out about our appearance. Luckily, there were a few cars being searched. It would be a while before they got up there.

 

"I know, I know." he chuckled. "Just the government would never view it as such a thing."
He noticed the road block in front of them.
And he sighed... "Can't things ever be easy...?"
he stretched and looked up the road past the other cars to see how much time they would have. "I guess we got no choice.." he sighed.
