rumors. wat is the hole point of them? i mean wat do ppl gain by spreading them a better rep? ppl who do that are horrible, horrible ppl. they hurt the ppl around them and dont even realize it. some ppl do it as a joke to. but do u see anyone else laughing. NO! u just see other people's life getting torn apart cuz of it...

so i ask why do ppl spread rumors?

people do that to be entertained and if you are talking about on this site i guess so they have more post

 

People are just too bored with their own pathetic life that they have to go and ruin someone else's. Horrible? Yes, but it happens. You just gotta live with it.

 

well if anyone spead a rumor bout me i would hunt them down and punch...(but not on khvXD) but at school i definatly would do that. that'll teach em!

 

Sometimes some people start rumors by accident. I mean you could say something and someone could take it th wrong way and spread what you said and mix some of the words in the process.

 

I know what you mean; I once said my friend likes swimming and someone else thought I said that my frend like shagging (british slang for sex) which wasn't true at all since i was 10 at the time so it was cruel and I lost a friend.

I hate rumours especially the ones about me claiming I'm an ugly 40 year old woman who hunts young boys for fun since I#m a 15 year old male who isn't a stalker. That rumour really hurt me since people were idiotic enough to believe it.

All in all I think rumours only do more damage to people and aren't fun at all.

People who start rumors have nothing better to do then try to bring someone else down. They're all just trying to build themselves up.

 

Next time can you please follow the rules and not use text talk in Intelligent Discussion? Decent topic though, and yes, I know I'm picky.

You bring up a good point and rumors do suck. People spread them for a number of reasons. Some people are vicious sorts that see an opportunity to drag someone down and so start a rumor mill going about the person, which often can be lies or like 1/10th of the truth of an incident. Those people are just facetious at the time and don't care about the victim of the rumors at all until something happens. They figure the person earned it and they are usually at the time of creating and spreading these sorts of things, some of the most annoying people around. Anyone who figures out the crap usually tends to dislike these types of people or at least the fact they spread so much agitation around.

I think other people are intentionally less harmful and maybe see something comedic and turn the situation to something even more twisted and there it goes, off to the others. They aren't being intentionally bad here but just coloring up a story, because some really love doing that. These often happen too from a tale being told and the Chinese Telephone scenario happens where it just alters as more people learn it. Also, when they hear bad things, they may really believe its true and just want to get the word around because it's important to them. Some weird rumors get twisted like above with the 'swimming' to 'shagging' deal because somewhere it must get muddled and turn into something that any logical person would just scratch his/her head over.

Most people though who tell rumors a lot or participate in the drama, chattering etc because they want to be part of the social group and they are bored. It gives them some excitement in their lives to be gossip queens. I really don't like rumors much and any time I hear the "Guess what happened to person X" thing, I tend to listen with half an ear and then it goes nowhere because most of the time I know it's not true or even if it is, I don't tend to care unless the person is hurt or the rumor is so outlandish. Most people know me by now and I think sometimes the only reason I get told gossip anymore is just so people can verify if it sounds real. I'm so used like that, lol

What's funny about gossipers in the rumor mill is that they laugh at others and spread rumors like wild fire...BUT if you start one on them, boy do they get mad. :)

 

Rumors are a huge issue, but an easily avoided one.

There is a girl at my school who has a rumors problem. She spreads them like crazy, and she'll tell one thing to somebody and a completely different thing to someone else. Like, for example, there was a football game where a player got a minor leg injury and a paramedic had to be called. She was going around saying that there were gunshots and knife fights and the player was paralyzed and 3 people were taken away in ambulances and were in critical condition.

If you'd believe that and buy into that rumor, you're just as attention-seeking and shallow as the person who started and spread it. The problem with rumors is not the creating of them, it's those who believe them. If you hear something, just make sure it is from a reliable source before believing it.

People who believe and spread rumors are just dumb and want to ruin another person's life for some reason. They're not even worth paying attention to.

Some people gain reputation by gaining rumors, like whos with who, etc. Rumors SOMETIMES turn out to be true by sometimes no. Also, rumors MAY lead to a path that you could have never wanted.

 

People do it to make themselves look betetr than others, of to give people false hope.

 

yeah i no how u feel too. earlier this year someone spread a rumor about me saying that i was emo. in the end i somehow lost a friend. my best friend to be exact... and i dont even no why. =(

 

Most of the people who spread rumors around are only doing it because they want something to talk about but there's nothing you can do about it really,once they spread it there's no stopping to it.

What really matters is that if you know the rumor is not real then just ignore it (if it's about you ofcourse)
They just want some attention,that is all.

 

Well, spreading rumors, I think, often starts for someone to be entertained. Some people also gain their reputation by spreading rumors. People who spread rumors tend to have nothing else to do. They can also do it just because they want to talk to someone or to fit into a social clique. Some just want to seek attention.

There is a multitude of reasons for someone wanting to spread rumors, none of them justified.

Hmm. Define Rumor. If I randomly say that Repliku is my wife and he is a pregnant mother of four living in Alaska, is that a rumor, or a lie?

How about if I see a thread appear with Repliku saying that he is my wife and a pregnant mother of four in Alaska and I then post that he said that after the thread was deleted, is that a rumour, or statement?

How about if I hear from Heartless* that Repliku is married to me and is a pregnant mother of four living in Alaska and I spread it?

Well? I think a definition is needed. Until that is provided, Repliku is living in Alaska with four kids.

Rumours are what we call "bad thoughts".They make people mad.

 

people spread rumors because they think it's funny to hurt other people... they get enjoyment out of making other people suffer... they sit back and laugh while they watch the entire grade begin to fall apart... it gives enjoyment to the person who started the rumor... but all it does to the person it's about is make them emotionally paranoid... :/
