I want to see it, the trailer looks good, so im hoping that the movie will be. Sometimes though, they show all the good parts in the trailer, but the movie be crap. Im hoping this isn't one of those times.

It sounds great. The only thing i'm concerned is its false affiliation with the original Planet of the Apes. Its cool looking though. I hope it has a great plot that we haven't seen yet or it would be pointless to watch.

The movie will probably get a lot more fanfiction for the movieverse, and the might be a fail in some parts. But it looks very likable.....MY logic makes no sense.

I'm glad they aren't having it connected to the remake. But it's gonna still have reference to the remake that could cause some nasty plot holes or bad fridge logic. Still, might be a pretty cool film if you can dodge being sucked into every critics ass these days.

I just don't think any sequel/prequel/reamke/spin-off of POTA is good, I just think it should have stayed in the original, I mean we have a young audience that hasn't even seen the original now. The ending to POTA was possibly one of the best twists in movie history hands down, but now with this movie, no one will know the twist, everyone will just know how the movie ends, its more fun to keep something hidden if it supposed to stay hidden.

    So I saw this tonight.
Small disclaimers to get out of the way before I begin: I came into the movie about 20 minutes late, and I only saw the original Planet of the Apes once a few years ago.

This was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It may top Clash of Titans, which is really saying something, because I hated that movie.

I just... have so many questions.
First of all, what was the goal of the apes? It seemed to me like Caesar was just pissed because he was in that containment area and just went batshit and started killing everyone.

Were we supposed to be rooting for the apes or the humans? I mean I guess you're supposed to pity Caesar but jfc, once the apes started killing people I'm like no okay this is bad these guys are mean. But you can't exactly side with the humans either, because they all suck.

If we were supposed to be rooting for the apes, what has the world come to that we're rooting for animals to kill all the humans?

James Franco's part was honestly very small, I mean yes science blah blah blah but I'd venture to say that 95% of the movie is just apes apes apes. no i did not go see this movie just for james franco why would you say that

When James Franco confronted Caesar on the bridge and was all "let's go home k"... WHAT WOULD THAT SOLVE. There would still be a pack of crazed rabid apes running around. Only now they would have no leader.

I don't feel like they touched enough on what happened to the fat guy who got exposed to the virus.

Why was James Franco's wife (?) British?

Okay so ignoring all of that, they released apes without the virus from the zoo and had them join in their journey. But how are they going to establish their society when probably half of them are still non-intelligent apes?

How does James Franco get out of the forest at the end?

Are we really supposed to believe that the apes are going to stay in the forest?

Why is it better that the apes are in a forest? Sure it's preferable to them ruining cities and stuff but they don't seem exactly well hidden.

There's probably more but I can't remember. It was just... terrible.

well, everyone has their opinions on movies. Such as for me, I love Clash of the Titans. So maybe I'll enjoy this movie itself. I don't question things like that, I just watch and enjoy whatever is on the screen

Like Misty,I also saw it tonight.
And had no idea what the hell was going on.
It was just so weirdly done, and confusing...
And,since I bought my younger brother,we both ended up just randomly talking during the whole thing.
    It was pretty boring.
    I only liked the Orangutan.

I saw it like a week ago and to be honest, I actually liked it. >> It wasn't horrible and I thought it was really good. I had seen the original Planet of the Apes a few years ago and it was completely boring to me. I even tried watching it after seeing this movie and it still didn't appeal to me.

I don't think the apes actually wanted to kill people. Sure they went on some rampage to get to the forest, but the gorilla wanted to a kill a person. Right before the police's head was going to be smashed, Caesar stopped him.

I'm glad James Franco's boss died. I honestly hated him and he deserved it. I think the ape that's blind in one eye is obviously going to be the bad guy. >> He just seems like it.

I liked the movie. I'm willing to watch it again.

For me to really like a film, it has to stick with me; it can't just be an enjoyable time waster. I consider those wastes of time that I could have spent watching better movies. Rise of plays out precisely as you'd expect from the trailer; nothing really surprising about it in any regard.
There are no human characters; just plot devices. Some of them are completely unnecessary other than to fulfill token roles, e.g. love interest. The reprise of the "damn dirty ape" line seemed kind of forced... not that it didn't fit in the context; I just can't see the character who said it speaking in that fashion. And it's important to remember that, like many iconic lines, the line is iconic not for the words itself, but for the context in which it appeared. Remove that context and it's just another throwback. I also felt that the plague was set up well enough as it was and the during-credits sequence sort of ruined its elegant semi-minimalism. You already know what's going to happen to the humans.

At the beginning of the film, Bright Eyes is killed thanks to her aggressiveness and it turns out she was just being motherly and protecting Li'l Caesar. From that point, I had a general idea how the rest of the movie would go: Will would take Caesar home and raise him, the film would develop sympathy for Caesar in a Kong-like (or, if you prefer, Mighty Joe Young-like) fashion, some jerk the audience is supposed to hate would provoke Caesar to attack him and Caesar would be taken away for his violent behavior, Caesar would be mistreated by his new caretaker and would lead an ape rebellion against the humans.

The introduction of Will's father Charles was interesting, but as soon as Will gave him the drug I knew he'd go through a truncated Flowers for Algernon arc that would end in his death.

The climatic ape rampage gave me a few laughs, so it's nothing terrible. I'm not dissatisfied, since my expectations were met exactly, but I'm not rushing to watch it again.

Actually the true original is the book, and it has an even better, slightly different twist than the movie.

About this "prequel", it actually isn' t a prequel at all, neither the book nor the first movie had anything to do with a virus.
This movie wasn' t great, but if there' s a sequel it might be much more interesting.

Err ... freedom maybe ? Just a wild guess ...

My my, who said you were supposed to root for anybody in particular ? It' s a movie, not a football match.

They' re not "running around", they' re fleeing the city and humans in general and he knows it. He only cares for Caesar because he sees him as family, he doesn' t give a **** about the other apes.

    Why the hell not ?

Because, you know, monkeys living in society in a forest is something entirely undocumented and unheard of, and the intelligent apes would obviously treat the normal ones as awfully as the humans treated them in the first place.

Gee that' s a tough one. Maybe he used his walking superpower ?

Are we really supposed to believe that the humans will let them live in peace in a forest they obviously didn' t buy ? Or that they will ever recognize them as equals with equal rights ?

Who says they want to hide ? They certainly aren' t ashamed of what they are and they don' t fear us anymore. The point is not to hide, it' s to establish their own cage-free territory, seizing it by force and defending it if it comes to that.

I've never watched the First Planet of the Apes, so I am not sure what changes were made to the movie.

But considering Misty's post, I'm a bit iffy as to if I want to even bother watching it. :/
I probably will, but there are a lot of loose ends it seems to leave.

Patman, at the last point, any Military force with remote competence could destroy those Apes within a few minutes, more if they ran. Honestly, even with the virus going around, the Military could simply burn the forest down(Extreme measure) and shoot them while they ran. Or simply walk in the forest, infantry only, and shoot them. Or use an A-10 Warthog. The apes should be dead.

I don' t get it, do you think brute force would be the ideal human response to the movie ending ? (That is if we ignore the fact that humanity as a whole is about to have a much bigger problem than the damn puny forest at that point, see here : http://www.movieweb.com/news/rise-o...el-may-go-full-metal-jacket-says-rupert-wyatt) Or are you merely suggesting that' s how humans would undoubtedly react ? Damn, humans can suck (which was my point and the point of the movie).

It's an enemy species that could in theory wipe humanity off the face of Earth. If they sent in a single soldier, asking for peace, and the Apes attacked(And they will) do we have a right to kill them then? But that Ape in the end was about to kill James, till Caesar intervened. So they were already shooting to kill us back. So in turn, if a soldier was sent in for peace, he would be killed. Justifying the destruction of their species, as they’re just as bad us as; but worse still, physically stronger. Humans don't suck; we have every right to fight for our survival against the apes. We've been killing each other for years. Now there's a species just as intelligent as us. That means they're just as bad as us. Most likely worse, as their evolution was rushed. Who's to say they won't destroy humanity, and become worse to the planet? The one apes almost attack proved that. Their intelligence will be their downfall, as is ours. They'd become just like us. Most likely worse, as said before. And Patman, a simple pass of an A-10 Warthog, or a small squad of troops would suffice to eliminate them. I'm sure there was some shred of order at that point; otherwise untrained un armed James would've never got there in the first place. Then again this is a movie, and untrained people generally beat those who’ve actually been in training all the time in movies. But meh.
