- DreamWorks - Directed By: Peter Ramsey - Producers: Christina Steinburg / Nancy Bernstein - Based on William Joyce's The Guardians of Childhood book series - Release Date: US - November 21 ( a day before my birthday, fuck yeah ) - FEATURING: A RUSSIAN SANTA, AN AUSSIE EASTER BUNNY, A MUTE SANDMAN AND A HUMMINGBIRD-FAIRY TOOTHFAIRY, AND A SEXY JACK FROST Sooooo, who else is super excited for this movie? Anyone read the books? I want to, but lack of funds. ; ~; I didn't even know the books existed until yesterday, and now I really want to read them, but Joyce said something about keeping the movie and books separate, and that the movie takes place some 200 years after the books.
Judging from the trailer, I feel like it could have potential to be very entertaining for adults along with kids. However, given the length of the film, I'm not sure if these themes would be explored substantively. I know 90 minutes is the general length for animated kids films, but it wouldn't hurt to at least make it 30 minutes longer, I feel. :x But anyway, if any family members or friends drag me along, I'll be sure to give my opinions on this film. The concept seems pretty friggen' cool. : D
I agree, a full two hours would be nice. I know I went to watch Madagascar 3 and was like okay here we g- what it's over? I'm really interested in this movie for a variety of reasons. One being, I love most Disney movies. Two being I love the characters (i.e. Jack Frost, Santa, Jack Frost, The Easter Bunny, Jack Frost, The Sandman, did I mention Jack Frost?) I would be more than happy to watch this and in the end, more than likely, right an outstanding review. By the way i'm just gonna come out and say it, Jack Frost looks hot! I'm straight but if I was gay, he'd be at the top of my Christmas list ;) . . . too much?
This looks like a good film. Judging from the tattoos on Santa, the Australian Easter Bunny, and the hot (I am straight by the way, admit it you would call him hot too) Jack Frost (sound ironic not that I think about it), they're taking the usual holiday characters and giving the a different look from what most people think, and that is something I would like to see. That and for some reason I'm a sucker for anything that says 'Guardians'. (I don't know why.)
Alright, just saw this thing and it was awesome!! The thing I love most about it is that Jack . . . wait . . . spoiler time XD and by spoilers I mean you shouldn't read unless you've seen or don't care, like massive spoilers that will ruin your fun, don't do it!!! Spoiler: Spoilers Doctor Spoilers Jack Frost Santa Easter Bunny Toot Fairy, a.k.a. Tooth Sandman, a.k.a. Sandy Pitch Black, a.k.a. Boogeyman Alright so Jack is actually a good guy in this movie, it's so awesome. The cooler part was that he had a life before he was Jack Frost, and he was a good guy. I always felt bad for Jack, always portrayed as the villain -_- so sad. Okay, so I love the Russian accent he has. His sleigh is wicked!! He has crazy awesome fighting moves with his swords. And he has yetis!! He also has a cool accent. He has these awesome two boomerangs he uses to fight. He and Jack don't really see eye to eye. She has these other little fairies who go all around the world collecting teeth for her. No accent, well she has an American accent I suppose (no accent from my pov) She appears to sort of have a thing for Jack He's pretty cool too. He can use his sand to not only put people to sleep but use it to fight as well. He doesn't talk or can't talk . . . not really sure, so he uses gestures and his sand to communicate. You know, even though he's the villain I can't help but feel sorry for him. He just wants to be noticed . . . at least that's what I think. Is it his fault that what comes with that is fear? He corrupts Sandy's sand making Nightmares. Weird black stallions that feed off fear and are under his control, well I wouldn't say control . . . it's sort of a union of sorts. Okay, so here's the serious serious spoilers. Like i'm talking plot and everything, definitely don't read these . . . Spoiler: Warning Leave Now The Beginning The Middle The End Spoiler: Last Chance To Turn Back Okay so it starts out with Jack coming to life some three hundred years before the actual story happens. Jack comes out of this ice and after flying around and this and that figuring out his abilities, he decides to visit this village he spots. He tries to make contact with people, but as as they starts walking right through him, he realizes they can't see him. Fast forward three hundred years later, we find ourselves at the North Pole. Santa gets called to this huge orb which is a replica of the earth, he sees all these little lights start fading out. Those lights are children who believe in him and the others. So he calls the Tooth Fairy, Sandman, and Easter Bunny there. After a few comedic scenes the moon shines a light on them telling them that there is a new guardian who will join there ranks. A crystal comes out of the floor and shows, who else, Jack Frost. After some rather questionable ideas of "fun" Jack finds himself running into the Easter Bunny. It appears they've met before. Two yetis grab Jack, throw him in a sack, and go through a portal back to the North Pole. They all try to tell Jack how he's a guardian now but Jack refuses. After some dramatic scenes between Santa and Jack, they all (save for the Tooth Fairy) jump in the sleigh and head for the Tooth Fairy's domain. There they find Nightmares capturing all the little fairies, save for the one that Jack rescues. They have a run in with Pitch and after some more dramatic scenes, find themselves next to a pond. Tooth tells Jack how teeth hold memories of their past lives. Jack has no memory of his past life and just believed that was his only life. Tooth starts fading because all the fairies can no longer collect the tooths and the children are losing faith in her. They all decide to collect tooths themselves to save her. Skip all the comedic scenes and we end up with Santa, Tooth, and Bunny asleep in Jamie's room. Jamie is a little boy who Jack "helped" earlier on. Jack notices Nightmares rushing past, so him and Sandy head off to fight them. Skip a bunch of action scenes and Sandy is surrounded by Nightmares, trying to fight them off. Pitch throws a black spear at Sandy corrupting him, turning his gold sand into black. Jack rushes to help but sadly doesn't reach him in time. A giant wave of darkness charges at Jack and the others. Jack retaliates freezing the wave and blasting Pitch back, causing him to retreat for the moment. Jack falls and is caught by Tooth and they head back to the North Pole. Spoiler: Really Stop Here After a short scene of a vigil held for the Sandman, we find the lot going to the Easter Bunny's domain. Easter is coming up quickly so they need to make it a success in order to keep children believing. After they arrive they find a little girl, Jamie's sister, who came there using one of Santa's orbs. After some scenes showing the eggs being made, the little girl get's tuckered out. Jack volunteers to take her home. Now we're back at Jamie's house and Jack puts the little girl to bed. As he leaves and starts to head back, he hears a voice calling his name. He decides to investigate, ignoring the warnings of the little fairy he saved earlier on. There he finds all the captured fairies and runs into Pitch. Pitch starts taunting him. Eventually Jack finds himself in one of the tunnels that the eggs were being delivered in, and he finds them all broken. Back on the surface, the Easter Bunny tries to interact with these children who were just previously hunting for easter eggs. As one of the children passes right through him, he realizes they no longer believe in him. Jack returns and they all begin asking him where he was. He holds out a container of his teeth, he got from Pitch. They all become disheartened with Jack, even he himself. Jack takes off. We then find Jack wondering in the snowy plains. Pitch reveals himself, and after some dramatic scenes, he is holding the little fairy Jack saved in his hand. Threatening to crush her unless Jack gives him his staff, Jack is helpless to do otherwise. He turns over his staff and the little fairy stabs Pitch with her beak. Pitch throws the fairy then blasts Jack sending him tumbling down into a cavern. He then snaps the staff and throws it down the cavern as well. Spoiler: Why Stop Now Jack wakes up and tends to the little fairy who is laying next to him. She is cold so he becomes sad he can't warm her. She flies into his hoody pocket and he leans against a wall. Again he hears a voice a jumps back, revealing a glow coming from within his hoody pocket. He pulls out the container of his teeth and the fairy motions him to use it. It shows scenes from Jacks previous life. The most important one being Jack and his sister on the pond from the beginning. They were just previously ice skating however the ice wasn't thick enough. It begins cracking beneath their feet. Jack tries to comfort his sister as he makes his way over to a wooden stick, what becomes his staff, laying on the ice. Quickly he uses it to knock her over onto the more sturdy ice, sadly the ice beneath him gives way as he falls in. Now we see the moon and what is more than likely what happened moments before the first scene of the movie. Jack snaps back into reality and becomes overjoyed. He decides he is going to fight. He picks up his broken staff and holds it together, after a failed attempt, it finally begins to glow. Skip a bunch of heartwarming scenes we find ourselves behind a building in town. Everyone is there, even Jamie. Pitch is getting closer to them and Jamie is becoming frightened. Jack comforts him the same way with his sister, (not an exact quote) "I know, let's have some fun instead" Jack realizes that his "center" is fun. He throws a snowball at Pitch as they all escape on miscellaneous items riding on Jacks ice. After gathering all of Jamies friends and then being cornered but Pitch, the children stand up and confront Pitch themselves. As a Nightmare charges at Jamie he says to Pitch, "I believe in you . . . i'm just not afraid of you!" Jamie holds out his hand as the Nightmare bursts into a golden cloud. After some more fighting scenes, and Sandy coming back to life, Pitch is defeated and decides to run. We once again find ourselves on a frozen pond. Pitch is stopped by Santa and everyone else shows up. Some Nightmares appear but the one who is afraid now is Pitch. The Nightmares drag Pitch back to whence he came. As Santas slay arrives, Jack and the others prepare for their departure. Save for a heartwarming scene between Jack and Jamie, and one **** of an exit scene, this is the end of the movie . . . or is it? No i'm just messing with you, it was. You can read this if nothing else, it contains no spoilers ^_^ Spoiler: Final Thoughs Loved the movie, Jack was hot, end of story, greatest thing ever . . . done. Hope you all found this useful, it took me long enough to type it all out. ^_^
God I loved this movie so much. I gotta say, twas rather sweet and really sad at times. Almost made me cry at a certain part.... ; _ ; Spoiler: Certain Part That poor, poor Sandy. He ended up being one of my favorite characters because of how awesome he is. And adorable. But he feel to Pitch and all dreams we lost to nightmares. But luckily, the kids brought him back in the end. <3 But then the action and things they did was just grand. And Pitch... in a way, I wish he did more. But his story was a bit sad to. Jack Frost is my favorite though. He's has a sad story and had tough time in the movie but in the end he has incredible power and was great. =^^= I hope to see the movie again soon 8D
So, if you can't tell from my avatar and signature, I saw Rise of the Guardians this past Saturday, and I enjoyed it so much. My friends told me that maybe I enjoyed it a little too much, but I don't really care. Everything about the movie was colorful and wonderful, and it was all visually stunning - I'm only sad I didn't see it in 3D. The plot, for me, was just a little typical, but the unique personalities of the characters and their designs totally made up for it. I even decided to check out The Guardians of Childhood books ( which yes, are children's books, suck my dick ). I think if I had to pick a favorite character, I might say Bunnymund ( the Easter Bunny ) because he was so much more different from the common image of the Easter Bunny, and his accent and attitude are fantastic, and he creates a lot of humor with the antics between him and Jack. All of the characters, though, I love them. ♥ 8/10, would watch again.
I haven't seem the movie yet but since I saw the trailer I've got to say that it was pretty funny when Santa Claus captured Jack Frost. Maybe I should go and see it this week...
Agree with you that the plot was pretty typical (I literally could draw a graph for how the plot went from happy to sad, exciting to quiet, for the most part), but the characters themselves are what made me stick with it the whole way, and I was honestly surprised to see such...literal fighting in a kid's movie. Like, holy hell the Easter Bunny was badass, and I was just expecting lots of avoidance of conflict and trying to talk it out with Pitch...nope, they wanted that fool out. So yeah go see it. Pretty much a kid-friendlier Avengers.
Just got back from watching it and I thought the exact same thing. I don't expect too much from Dreamworks animation these days (especially when they showed the trailer before the movie that seemed to be their response to Brave). They typically get all of these big name actors to be in their films and come up with half assed plots, terrible dialogue, and just a flat out annoying film. Even with all of that, I went into Rise of the Guardians with an open mind...and I really liked it. Yes, the plot is filled with cliches, predictable (and that becomes apparent when you figure out it is The Avengers), and had some annoying lines to entertain kids, but it was really enjoyable. It was obvious that there was a lot of love put into the film. The characters to me really felt alive by the actors and their designs. I absolutely loved how they changed up each character's design from the traditional look to something really unique. And the animation! Dear God! When they introduce Jack at the very beginning and seeing him discover his powers, that just made all of my cynicism melt away. The sled scene in the beginning was also amazing, well planned out, and it didn't feel like random filler. This is one that I'd definitely look for when it comes out on blu-ray, not just for how beautiful the movie looks, but also so I can see all the behind the scenes stuff.
Just finished watching this, and I gotta say, it was a great movie. This movie had a great story, and it gave a great story to Jack Frost, who also had a great depiction. Actually, I have to say all of the depictions in this movie were great. It really made me have more love for Santa Claus, Sandman, Tooth Fairy, and the Eater Bunny. The fact that they made Jack Frost a kid who wanted to have fun and was trying to figure who he was I thought was really clever. I'm not sure how much I can say about this without just repeating myself, so all in all: It was a great movie, great story, great characters, and awesome all-around.
I just watched this yesterday, and I loved it. The story was really good. The different ideas came together really well. The characters were all really awesome, some more than others *cough* Jack Frost *cough*. I also really like the bad guy, to the point that it made me sad when he lost. Spoiler It was sad when he was defeated in the end, and the kids forgot about him. Then the whole thing where he was swallowed up by his own creations... Also, Jaime is kinda mean. He said that he believes in Pitch Black, but forgot about him in the end. It is really sad to be forgotten, and invisible. different for Jack because he was just invisible. All in all it was a good movie, with a great story, and some funny moments in the side.
Okay well I went to see it with Bushy when I met up with him and I have to say it's an amazing film (made an amazing first date xD). It was entertaining from start to end, I loved the way they twisted all our ideas of well known figures to make them completely original and new. Admittedly I'd never heard of the sandman before this film, I love him now. It was also nice to see Jack not be the bad guy for a change, while still completely getting across the mischief maker part of him and why he's often seen as bad. Though I did figure out what his centre was from the very beginning, it wasn't hard to guess. And that animation....wow. Spoiler: Bad Guy's name I also quite like how they made the villain called Pitch Black and the Boogeyman was more his title. It meant it was still someone you'd heard of and it made sense, yet if they'd just called him the Boogeyman I would not have been able to take him seriously at all. Just had a couple of little nitpicks: Spoiler 1. The solution to tooth's fairies being caught. Yes, it worked and I really enjoyed watching it but it was a temporary solution at best. If you think about how fast she suffered the effects, wouldn't that just start all over again as soon as they stopped collecting teeth? The fairies are still captured so no more teeth would be. Yet she hardly seemed to suffer anything near what she did at the start after they stopped. 2. Jamie walking through Pitch, Jamie had previously stated explicitly 'I believe in you, I just don't fear you', which surely should mean he should be able to see and feel Pitch. Yet a few minutes later, Jamie runs straight through him, suggesting he doesn't believe in him, has he somehow forgotten about him? Even with those, they're only little things and it's still a really amazing film that I would definitely recommend. Unfortunately it's doubtful there will be a sequel as it's not making enough money which is a real shame.
Just saw the movie the other day, thought it was quite spectacular (sadly, I didn't have many positive expectations of it initially, honestly don't know why.) Sure there are the occasional cheesy and predictable dialogue that appears here and there throughout the movie, I felt as though they thought this through really well, right down to the gorgeous animation. I'm also glad they didn't resort to calling Pitch Black solely the Boogey man. Boogey man...I... It just doesn't sound like a serious baddie, you know? And this guy, ohoho, it was a good call they named him Pitch Black in the end.
