during the fight with xemnas inside kingdom hearts there is a part where sora and riku jump on a hover thing to fight xemnas` dragon, what did they jump on and why was it there?

I assume it's one of the small flight ships of the Nobodies since they did have an armada of ships before you reached Twilight Town, so if Sora and co didn't beat Xenmas, those small crafts would be used on the worlds for destruction and conquer the worlds themselves.

Then again, Nomura wanted to make Kingdom Hearts II more of a challenge with more exciting battles so the hovercraft could of been there if Xenmas wanted to escape the Keyblade Warriors or just a conveinent plot device since Final Boss battles tend to have the boss get more powerful a certain number of times after you defeat it, it always happens in RPGs.

I always thought it, it is always there so conveniently, the only thing is TWTNW still standing is falling apart, Riku and Sora are falling to their doom when luckily they spot a hover craft thing. Ha, well, I always came to the conclusion it was a nobody battleship that was left. Like when you are travelling through on your gummi ship and you have to fight the nobody ships, it was one of them.

It's there as a way of making a more interesting battle, so the teenagers can follow dragon Xemnas and have a battle in the sky, it makes a change to having multiple battles of the same thing where you just whack Xemnas repeatedly with the keyblade.

thats a pretty small battleship considering it was only big enough for the two of them to stand on

Actually, on the KH wiki they point out that it shares some similarities with Terra and Ven's Keyblade Gliders. I found that pretty interesting, though I doubt that there's much real significance behind it.

Perhaps it was used by the Organization members to get around the Castle? Or maybe just a sort of battleship. How/why it's there isn't too significant, I think Protector is right, they were just trying to get some more varied boss battles.

True, but the gummi ship isn't huge. I was just thinking for possibilities, feel free to come up with your own theories ^^ It could just be, as Misty said, a transportation device.
If it shows some resemblance to TAV's keyblade gliders then Xemnas probably brought them in as if to compensate for what he lost from when he was Terra

I think Xemnas could have left it there himself for them specifically.
Let's face it, they thought they had beaten him... so what does he do. He makes the fight continue, so he can beat them with his own hands once and for all. In order to do that when he's in a huge flying dragon, they would need a way to bring the fight to him.
By leaving that there for them (and lets face it, he is powerful enough to make something like that just materialise there), it accomplishes exactly that.
That's how I'm looking at it if anyone desperately wants a story reason.
Anyway, I do believe what everyone else is saying about it just being a convenient method to make the fight different.

Doesn't explain the fact that it was made for two people max.

Really though, like everyone says, it's just a plot device.
The design is just because, well, that's Nomura's touch.
Even the skateboards Scrooge made bears similarities with Ven's Glider(As in, sides the fact that they're basicaly the same kind of thing, they have the exact same format).

    Xemnas materialised it from scratch?
He knew just Sora and Riku were the ones left, so he made it that way for them. Just a thought.

Sure bad guys get overconfident with the power they've always desired but I higly just doubt it, besides, the Path of Darkness doesn't stay open for a big period of time, the times we see them open is for a few seconds by their creators, but since Xenmas was merged with Kingdom Heart's power, he could close the gateways by force and he hoped to turn Riku and Sora against one another as you hear in the battle aginst Armoured Xenmas 2 with the black hole

"Riku... Are you sure you're not jealous of Sora?"
"Sora, are you certain you can trust Riku?"

In the end of the battles, this is actually brought to light as Riku was jealous of Sora just following his heart and being 'Sora' while Sora constantly looekd for Riku despite him being in the Darkness.

Not to mention Sora, Riku and Mickey's Keyblades represent the different forces, Sora's represents the Light, Mickey gained his from the Darkness and Riku from both sides, of course they all fight for the same cause, protect teh Realm of Light.

I always figured that thing was just lying around and they just happened to spot it at the right moment.

I always thought it belonged to the Nobodies, I mean, it had that 'tint' to it, that design, and how it fit two? Just convenient, and as Cat<3 Sora said, it's Kingdom Hearts, and anything goes.
