She probably feels like she's worse off too.

At first I was like this can't be that serious. Then I saw the picture and now I'm like, okay he needs to go to jail.

Focus on the MILLIONS of abused women and children here in the US, or in whatever country you live in, rather than on ONE overhyped woman.

I don't know, maybe I feel like this because my best friend was abused as a child by his parents, but I still feel that the real victim is not a woman who can afford the best medical care and plastic surgery to restore her superficial beauty, but all the REAL women who are basically trapped with their abusers.

Every age has it's Ike and Tina. This time its Chris Brown and Rihanna. Couples fight and no one can stop that. I say just let it happen, Jail doesn't have to be brought in to this.

Yea, but she was beat up ONCE. So many of these other abused women, it happens over DECADES, and sometimes their KIDS start getting abused too. She has the money to fix it all and sweep it under the carpet, so she should NOT be getting these WEEKS of coverage. Rather, this "tragedy" should be a focal point to bring the worldwide issue of spousal abuse into the public eye. How much of THAT has been covered? NOTHING, because the media would rather make megabucks with her name on their front pages than help more ordinary people.

I agree that there shouldn't be so much hype over the assault, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it is a case of domestic abuse. He still deserves to go to jail, just like any other man (or woman for that matter, men get beat up by their wives quite a lot too) who abuses their wife (/husband).

The point is that we treat everyone the same. Childofturin, you are being negatively biased; you've swung back across the half way mark and are treating them less well than "average" people. That is as bad as treating celebrities better.

No, I am trying to say that celebrities should get no more or less attention than normal people, and since normal people get no attention right now... draw your own conclusions. I am also saying that, while it is bad, it is not nearly the tragedy that the media is making it out to be, because, regardless of what happened to her, she has the money to make it all better (plastic surgery, gallons of make-up, whatever). She should have had one story about how "she got beat up - here is what will happen" and then, ideally, a side story leading from that to an awareness of the millions of other women in worse situations, and that would be it.

Regardless of what I think of her, you have to admit, many women are in MUCH worse situations, where they cannot go anywhere without their abusive husbands, they cannot speak up, and they get regularly beaten, and many of them are so cowed by this that they never report it - it is only discovered by, say, a neighbor who reports it.

I agree that there is almost always someone who is worse off, but that doesn't mean that we can write off those who "got off lightly" just because they weren't that badly hurt.

I never said to "write her off" - I said to give her no more attention than anyone else gets. If it were a normal woman, it would be a one-shot story for a local news network, so why is it any different for a celebrity?

I understand where you are coming from.

What irks me is when people get negative bias against them because of the people's perceptions of what they might be like. For example, people automatically assume that if a singer is good looking they aren't as good. This isn't always the case, and it should never be assumed as such.

Slow as I am, I didn't know they were dating. Poor Rihanna though. It's not the greatest way to make you feel better around guys...
