Ride. Maximum Ride.

"That's... the moon?" Ignelia asked looking up at the great orb in the sky in complete awe.
She had never seen such a beautiful sight before.
The white light of the moon made her think of her hair and of her wings.
She could feel her wings stretch and want to flap in anticipation... she just absolutely wanted to take off into the sky and fly up to the moon.
She forced herself to snuggle into Kate's arm though, she held onto it with both her arms and closed her eyes... not in a state of sleep, but of comfort.

 

Leilani looked around at her flock. They were all here, like one, giant, bird family of love. Leaning back into a tree, she sighed contently. If they could find a safe house, far away from the reaches of the scientists, they could probably make it through a normal life.

'But, being a bird kid, nothing is ever normal, isn't it?' Leila thought, her small smile turning into a frown. 'We always have to hide our wings, we've got those awesome extra abilities, but, are they useful in the normal world? If we fly, people could spot us.' Soon, she became lost in thought, her head turned upward to the moon.

 

Small tears started to pour from Ignelia's eyes, as she made silent sobs...
Not from her ankle... but from thoughts of something else... something which she was ashamed to admit she hadn't thought about much since the escape.
Sure, they had a lot to celebrate, a lot of distractions... but... she was shocked that she had paid no thought to the past until this second.

 

Leilani came out of her deep thought when she heard a small sob. Looking over at Kate and Ignelia, she noticed Ignelia crying a little. "Hey, what's up, Iggy? You okay?" She came a little bit closer to the girls, patting Ignelia's head softly.

 

Ignelia suddenly wrapped her arms around Leilani and buried her face into her and sobbing a bit louder now.
In the end... she was still just a child. A young girl.

 

Leila wrapped her arms around Ignelia and pat her back, trying to comfort her. "Hey, no need to cry. What are you thinking about?" She asked softly, her eyes closed.

 

Ignelia looked up, tears still streaming from her bright yellow eyes...
"I... I just wish that he had been with us... to escape..." she said weakly...
She felt ashamed that she hadn't given thought about him once since the escape.
She was talking about her older brother, a bird kid like them, the second oldest of the flock, just a little bit younger than Leilani. He had been taken away by the scientists at the school one day for further experimentation... but he had never come back.
When Ignelia had begged for information, being absolutely inconsolable, the flock had been told he was dead.
No details... but that's how it was.

 

Leilani's eyes became wet. 'This isn't like me...I forgot someone of our flock? Impossible....but, true. Oh, what was his name? I can't even remember what he looked like....all I remember is how he used to make Iggy happy in our tiny cage.....Why?....Why did I forget?'

She hugged Ignelia tighter, tears falling down her cheeks. 'Since Iggy lost her brother....how could she bare the pain? She's only fourteen, after all. Ignelia......I won't rest til I find out what happened to your brother, okay?'

 

"Iggy, it's going going to be fine, we're all going to be okay" Kate said to Iggy as she began to cry, rubbing hr arm gently and reassuringly. Kate shut her eyes tightly and held her friends close, a teardrop rolled down her cheeks as she sat there, soon to be followed by another. She felt guilty for not remembering before but maybe they had needed that bit of happiness they so seldom got. They were right, he should of been with them but, but perhaps she feared more the suggestion it may lead to. The thing she feared more than anything else, going back to that place. She shook her head, she was being selfish but still, they had just escaped, she was not going back. It wasn't fair. She began to hum quietly a little nursery rhyme, that whenever she was scared or they did anything really bad to her, she hummed to convince herself everything would be okay and the bad things would go away.

 

Ignelia listened to the familiar Nursery Rhyme that Kate would always hum.
Wrapped in the warm and comforting embrace of those closest to her, and lulled by Kate's gentle voice, humming that familiar rhythm... Tears still in her eyes, she soon found that sleep came upon her.

 

Zaron walked down the path. He hated not being able to use his wings, everything went so much slower. He looked up at the moon, but it looked better when he was in the sky. He just wanted to get off this world and go where he belongs, wherever that was. He wondered if everybody else escaped, he silently escaped before anybody else did. Yeah..he was good at that. He wanted to look for everyone..know their okay, but he couldn't just spread his wings and fly. He remembered those days. His eyelids felt heavy, he couldn't remember the last time he had a full sleep. Complete and utter silence...this was perfect. He knew he should start looking..Maybe..stopping for a second couldn't hurt he said, assuring himself as he laid down. He slowly closed his eyes and fell into sleep moments later.

 

Leilani looked over at Kate, patting Ignelia's back softly. "Do you remember him, Kate? I can't, I haven't seen him in forever..." She sighed dismally. "I feel bad that I forgot about him."

As I stood from my bed, I looked out my tiny window. Not to far from our house, smoke came from the forest. 'Probably more people on a camping trip...' I thought, my eyes narrowing. "I'll just go and check them out for just a sec..." I jumped out my window, snapping my wings out and soaring to the ground. "Alright, time to figure out who they are."

Bio: She's a smart, funny and cute girl. At times, she can be a little ditzy, (like Nudge) but, she's got a heart of gold. She was recently given 2% Bat DNA, giving her little, black wings that can hold her high in the air. She escaped at twelve, and has been on the run ever since, not getting to know Leilani's flock,
DNA: 2% Bat, 98% Human.

 

Zaron woke up, his back aching. "Guess thats what you get for sleeping on the ground.." he sighed, slowly getting up. He was quite surprised he smelt food, or a fire, or something. He had before he went to sleep too, but he thought it was because he was a tired crazy lunatic. He was excited for whatever was over there..he was starving. He was about to spread his wings when he groaned. "Not flying sucksss" he sighed, and started running off.

He was about there when he peeked around the corner, the girls looked familiar. He wasn't sure if they would be good or not, so he would just wait on the sidelines. He made a nice spot by around where they were. He wasn't sure how long he had slept before..but he still felt like a dead zombie. He knelt his head against a tree and before he knew it he had gotten so comfy, and he fell asleep yet again. Alas it hadn't crossed his mind he snores loudly.

 

Leilani had fallen asleep on Ignelia on accident, but now, she was up, looking at her flock contently. "Love you guys." She whispered quietly, swiftly getting up without a sound. Walking to a tree, she flew up to a high branch and laid on it, her stomach rubbing its bark. From up at this height, she could see lots of things, including her flock. This way, if some random person came near, they'd be surprise attacked. Looking back up at the moon, she swung her foot and smiled softly.

"Finally. Free, together, and away from the scientists." She breathed, wrapping her wings around her slim figure to blend in with the night.

'I can't believe this. Five other bird kids? Dang, those scientists are really trying to get rid of us.' I thought, looking at the girl with light blue hair and dark wings like Fang's. I had watched her fly up the tree without noticing me, so now, I thought it was time to introduce myself.

Flying softly to the branch above her, I tapped her on the head with my sneaker. "Hey."

"Who are you?" Leilani hissed, jumping on the tree branch in surprise.

"Hold your horses there. I'm Max, and I want you and your flock to come with me." I told her, jumping off my branch. As I fell, I shot my wings open silently, catching the draft that carried me back up to her.

Leilani watched in awe as Max did this. "I'm Leilani, but you can call me Leila. Listen, come back tomorrow morning, okay? We've got alot to talk about."

 

When Leilani took off, Ignelia unconsciously cuddled into Kate. Still fast asleep.
She seemed to be wary of her bad leg even in sleep.

 

Kate's eyes fluttered open quietly, she must have fallen asleep. She looked down at Ignelia and smiled to see her clled up to her. She frowned momentarily, noticing Leilani was gone but shrugged it off. She couldn't go looking even if she wanted to with Iggy cuddled up to her. Leilani wouldn't be far away, she was probably just wanted to enjoy their new found freedom.

 

Zaron woke up, looking up half asleep. He saw people talking up in the tree a bit farther out. Wait..I see people talking up there he thought, stretching out his wings. Ahh...so much better. he thought, flying upward carefully toward them while trying not to get seen. He realized he had nothing to lose and flew a little bit higher, then glided toward them.
