As soon as she was healed, Fae took in big gulps of air and sputtered, surprised by the amount of oxygen she was able to get now. Before, everything was on black and she could barely hear or feel anything. She thought she heard a soft voice telling her to go ahead and sleep, but she fought it away and here she was now.

Her eyes fluttered open and she blinked to make them adjust to the view. She saw a ceiling, but that's all she could really make out. Then there was the smell that told her where she was. It wasn't unpleasant to her. It was just more like the smell of home, something familiar to her. Color had returned back to Fae's cheeks. She was alive and well.

Hearing a familiar voice, Fae turned her head to see Marlene standing over her. "Hi," Fae croaked, clearing her throat soon afterwards. "Was I asleep?" she asked innocently, rubbing her head. It did feel like she was in a bad dream of sorts. The poison confused her mind and she didn't know what was real and what wasn't.

The young girl then noticed that Marlene looked rather sick, weak even. "Hey, are you okay?" Fae sat up on the table, groaning when all the blood suddenly rushed to her head. But she didn't complain for long and looked at Marlene with a genuinely concerned expression on her face. "Can I do anything to help?" Fae also noticed that someone else was missing. "Have you seen Zane?"

Marlene was relieved to see Fae acting as her normal self again. She noticed the look of dismay that was written upon Fae's expression. Upon hearing what Fae had to say, Marlene smiled and shook her head, "No I'm fine Fae, just a little tired." She listened to Fae began to talk about a Zane fellow. So that was the name of the man that was running with Fae in his arms. "Is Zane the man who brought you here? I don't think I've ever seen him around here before." she looked around the room, Marlene hadn't even noticed that they left. "I actually don't know where they went, I was too focused on helping you at the time." she looked back at Fae,"If I had to guess, they must of ventured out into the hall, you can go look for him now. You look well enough to me." ​

She walked over to the board close by, where Caleb had put the plan for The Resistance's upcoming attack. She skimmed over it, then went back over the details of the attack. Marlene looked away from Fae as a burning sensation had begun to infect her lungs. She tried to control her breathing as the pain began to grow. Marlene was experiencing something of the same pain Fae had earlier. She grasped the table nearby with her sweaty palm as her breathing grew into a troubled gasp for air. It would be over soon enough. ​

The girl was not convinced that all was right. She watched as Marlene walked over to the board with a deep frown, her back towards Fae. Even though she was somewhat new to The Resistance, she overhead the others talking about Marlene's healing powers. And if she remembered correctly, then all wasn't right. "Marlene, what did you do?" Her tone was even, strained though. Fae got her answered right away when she saw Marlene grasp onto the table and then heard her wheezing.

The young girl hopped off the table and hurried her way over to Marlene. When she reached her side, she grasped the older girl by the shoulders and then looked at her face. "You didn't... But you did..." Marlene took the poison that was inside of Fae and put it within herself. Fae herself knew how powerful that stuff was.

There was a flash of anger and frustration over Fae's eyes as she gripped Marlene's shoulder tighter. "Does Caleb know about this?!" Her voice raised a few pitches, and it was much louder then she wanted it to go too. She let out a shuddering breath and then moved to face Marlene. "Let me help you, I can heal too you know! You could die!" Maybe Fae wasn't seeing the whole picture completely. After all, she was blinded by the fact that Marlene would sacrifice herself for Fae. Fae would live on, and forever live with that guilt that she was in death's trap in the first place, not Marlene. It wasn't fair either way. Fae felt like she was responsible for this. If only she was more careful... Now Marlene was showing her symptoms, and that was scary to the princess.

Zane was flicking around the Buster Sword, testing its weight. He was right, Caleb had made an exact replica. Heck, if he hadn't seen Caleb create it in front of him he would have sworn it was the same blade. He walked back around, over to where Fae and Marlene were. To his surprise, Fae was already up and about. "Well, someone's a quick healer" he remarked, impressed at how fast the girl had recovered. It was then that he noticed Marlene grab the table, as though she needed it to support herself. She appeared very unwell. The fact that Fae seemed very worried about the girl was another cause for concern; she looked as though she thought Marlene could die at any moment. Damnit, I used every last drop of my magic trying to slow down Fae's poison! he thought to himself.

​

"Know about what exactly?" Caleb asked, conveniently arriving back to the area that Marlene and Fae stood at that time. He had been following Zane without a word, still unsure whether he made the right decision to temporarily remove Zane's banishment. The first thing he noticed then was that Marlene was struggling for air, the second was that she seemed to be struggling to stand. Caleb quickly summoned a small stool, big enough for Marlene to sit on, and moved it next to her. "Here, take a seat" he said. He had to remain calm. If the Resistance saw its leader panicking, it could send everyone into a flurry of panic. If only he knew what had caused Marlene to get sick like she was. Maybe the poison that had afflicted Fae was contagious? Had he just put Marlene's life in danger?

It seemed as though everyone had flocked around Marlene at the same time, all vying for answers. This is exactly what she didn't want to happen, but it seemed everyone was there. She sat down on the stool Caleb had summoned for her and looked up at the others. She tried to form a sentence, but it had seemed she couldn't speak a word without it coming out as an empty reply. She sat there quietly, wishing that she could communicate to them. She had reached the point that Fae had been at only a few moments ago and she felt her lungs began to tighten. This was her fight, as she battled against the overwhelming pain that began to devour her. She soon stopped her struggling as she felt suddenly tired. She tried standing up as the pain had reached it's climax. This was how it worked for every healing.​

​

It was more of an internal fight that only Marlene could handle, she had to prove to be strong enough to accept the darkness. She stumbled as she stood up, she had used mainly all of her power and strength to consume Fae's fate. "I-I'm..." was the only word that sounded from Marlene's quiet whisper as she fell forward towards the ground. There could be no sounds heard from Marlene, yet a rather long and jagged dark line slowly branded itself onto the back of Marlene's neck, and it could be seen from the appearance of the scar, this was not a result from the poison.​

Fae was quick enough and caught the girl in her arms before she fell to the hard, cold stone ground. She slowly let herself sink to a sitting position with Marlene in her arms, letting the girl rest her head on her thighs. The girl felt absolutely sick to her stomach, feeling like she was the one that had done something wrong and not Marlene. She looked up at Caleb and Zane her eyes wet with tears threatening to come. "Sh-she used some kind of magic on me to heal me... She took the poison out of me, but it wasn't destroyed or contained somewhere else. I think..." Fae trailed off and looked down to the young lady on her lap, suddenly noticing a mark on her neck. "What's that?" Fae asked, suddenly getting even more worried than she was before about Marlene.

Fall looked at Xera and the other girl. She silently nodded and then began to walk the same way she did when she entered the town. She turned her head toward the two, "Come..." She said as she continued walking. She wanted to get to the outskirts of town so that when she opened a portal to Vex, it wouldn't cause a commotion.

 

Despite being far away, Quinn could hear the conversation once a bit of his magic was poured into that sense. He had been avoiding doing so before, so as to give the two privacy, but now didn't seem like the time for that. From the conversation, he could guess that this mysterious girl was one of the passing. He nearly leaped into action when he saw a smile on Sasha's face. Why would she be smiling? As though a gear had been turned in his mind, it clicked into place. He figured out her plan. Not wanting to hinder it by playing the hero, he turned his gaze to Cammy, who he imagined would try to go after her. "Come on Cammy! Let's go back to Carson. Sasha can handle this herself." "Carson" being the alias he had come up with for Caleb. It took every ounce of willpower in the prince's body to not come to the aid of the girl when she was shoved down. He had known her most of his life. To see her treated so poorly infuriated him, but he had to let it go.

​

The hangman was utterly unphased by the threats directed at him by Iris. "Judgement will prevail" He said in his raspy warped voice, indicating some kind of punishment was being delivered. The raven now departed from his shoulders perched itself on a nearby rooftop, looking rather inconspicuos. Tristan Rains meerly continued forward at the duo, unflinching in the face of their weaponry. Another crack of the whip was sent flying at them, guided by a caw echoing down the streets through the droplets of water pouring down from the sky. ​

Cammy stood silently but firmly, not wanting to just leave Sasha, but not wanting to cause more trouble. "...No. I'm not going. I'm staying with Sasha. I don't care if I'm in over my head. I burn, and I'm gonna help." Cammy wasn't much of a fighter, but when it came to people needing help, she was always there. "Sorrg Uncle Rob, but you're gonna have to head back alone."

Iris jumped back as the whip cracked at her and she called out to Ishimura, "Go!" She then aimed her gun at the Hangman and fired. Glowing white bullets shot out and rushed toward the man.

​

Ishimura charged at the man after Iris gave the command. As he charged, he began to grow two knew limbs on his back. Both were arms that had a bladed bone at the end that came out of the wrists. After Iris fired her gunblade, he attempted to slash at the man with the bladed arms he now had.

​

Fall looked around a bit as soon as they got to the outskirts of town. She then summoned one of her demons and used her scythe as she slashed at the air, tearing a hole in the fabric of space and time making a portal back to Vex's castle, "Will this work..?" She asked.

Vex stood up angrily from the throne that he sat upon. "How DARE you give me character interaction! Do you have ANY idea how much work I had to put into making myself seem like a fairly isolated antagonist? All these months, wasted, because YOU decided to bring her to me. Why couldn't you have killed her? Or forced her to tell you where the resistance is? GOD DAMNIT WOMAN!" Vex yelled out furiously. He lifted up his huge battleaxe that lay down on the floor and raised it high. "NEVER MESS UP MY PLANS" he roared as he brought the gigantic battleaxe down, only for it to shatter upon Xera's head. "Oh so you're a thick-headed one are you? Well, didn't expect that" he added.

Vex eyed off Xera as she entered with Sasha. He stood up, something he didn't often do in the presence of those he thought of as slaves. "734, you were always the most useful of the slaves. Such a pity that you ran away like you did. Now, what to do about you? It would be a shame to waste someone with your talents, but if I let you live what message will that send to the other slaves? That Vex is a weak coward? I AM NEITHER!" he shouted, slamming his fist down on the throne next to him in anger. He then sat down once again.

"Xera, you have proven yourself useful. I apologize for anything I may have said to offend you earlier. You will be rewarded for your troubles, but only when the Resistance is brought before me just as this slave has been. As for you..." Vex said, now looking straight at Sasha. "You will be placed back with the other slaves, but you will carry a message to them" he said. He raised his right hand as a glare appeared in his eyes. In an instant, a ferocious bolt of lightning flew into Sasha, one that would hurt her very much internally, but would leave everything working, just enough to scare the woman. "Let them know that that is just a taste of what will happen to those that rebel against Vex!" he roared.

Caleb's attention was brought to the mark on Marlene's neck, the one that Fae had pointed out. "Is this a consequence of your healing, Marlene? I'm sorry, it was my fault that you had to take on this illness. I'm not fit to be a leader, I'm just-" he began, only to be backhanded in the face by Zane. He looked over at Zane, who looked incredibly serious. "Because I needed that i'll overlook it, do it again and our deal is broken" he said. He looked back at Marlene. "I only wish I knew what to do, I can't just sit here and watch her die!" he exclaimed.

​

"Nobody's going to die today" Zane said. This statement received a shocked looked from Caleb, who probably knew what he was thinking. Once a person's magic was used up, it slowly regenerated, but in the amount of time that had passed Zane had not gotten much back at all. However, there was one way to use magic when the energy was gone. This was done by drawing upon the life force of a person, slowly draining their life energy until either they died or stopped using magic. "Caleb said your name was Marlene, didn't he? Marlene, If there's any way you know of to remove that mark on your neck, to get you healthy again, I'd appreciate it if you said so now, because what I'm about to do if you don't say anything could very well cost me my life" Zane said to Marlene, hoping that she would tell them how to stop it.

Marlene thought she was going to fall, but she was soon caught by gentle hands. She gathered her breath and felt rather better, as though all the pain had seemingly vanished within her body. It seemed that she had won yet another battle. She was about to speak before a second wave hit her flat. She immediately touched the back of her neck, where it seemed to be the source of the pain. It felt as though something were burning itself into her, and Marlene's heart seemed to fall. She bent forward, refusing to let out a scream as she endured the pain. She tried to concentrate instead on what Caleb and Zane were saying. She herself didn't know what was wrong, which sent a shiver down her back. Then everything faded from Marlene's mind and body. She felt nor thought absolutely nothing as her hand slid down from the back of her neck. The mark on her neck had lightened in color into almost what appeared to be a white jagged-line. She looked up and a small smile played upon her lips. She spoke gently and quietly, "...I really don't understand what I just experienced, but now I can't feel anything. No pain, no hurt. It's as though the feelings just vanished." She tried to stand, "Things like that never happen..." she looked over at Fae and stopped speaking, trying not to worry her. Whatever it was, it was gone now.

A hour had gone and past and Vincent could be found shuffling through another section of the nearby forest. Three dead rabbits hung over his shoulder as he looked around at the surrounding shrubbery. No one had returned yet with groceries and Vincent wanted to at least put something on the table for the other members of The Resistance. Hopefully he could feed at least some of the younger members. "Maybe I should find a few more rabbits..." Vincent thought to himself as he heard a rustle in the nearby blueberry bush. Something was rather odd about the rustling, it sounded as though it was quite heavier than a small rabbit...

Fae, being a healer herself, saw the pain that Marlene was going through and held her a bit tighter in her arms to try to comfort her. She glanced up at Caleb and Zane before she looked back down at Marlene. Everything seemed to have stopped all together now. She sighed out in relief, letting go of Marlene gently and helped her to sit up. Marlene didn't know herself what was going on, which made Fae feel a bit more nervous. Was it some kind of contract magic? One where someone had to feel the same pain as the other in order to save their life? Nonetheless, the crisis seemed to be over now. "Thank you for saving me," Fae finally said, looking at Marlene with a small smile on her lips. "And you too Zane, thank you..." she said, looking up at the man and smiled at him. "I was pretty close to dying... So thank you." She didn't know what else to say. She was just relieved that Marlene was okay. Should she tell them what she was to them? A princess? No, Caleb and the others would probably not let her fight at all. She wanted to help her country folk though, it was her duty. It was suppose to be her brother's burden to bear, but he refused. It was up to Fae to see this kingdom to it's future she envisioned. She wished for everything to be balanced one more, just as her father tried to strive for.

 

“My lord, we found this man wandering around outside the palace gates.”

Donte was thrown on the floor in front of Vex. He glared at them through the eye of his mask and then looked up at the man before him. “Ah… so the rumors were true,” he said quietly, and then bowed his head to the man before him.

“Forgive me for trespassing, my lord. I am Donte Samuel Inferno… I was exiled many years ago for trying to rid the kingdom of the pesky king… But I see someone else is ruling now. It puts my mind at ease…” Donte glanced up at Vex, looking at him through the only eye hole in his mask. “It seems you are doing a wonderful job… However, I should warn you my lord, if you let the people here have even just a little bit of hope, they will rebel… I come with valuable information. A little bird told me that the next princess to the throne is still alive… And with the enemy.”

Donte bowed deeply to the man before him, pulling out several pictures that were taken. “Behold.” Donte laid them out in front of Vex to see. There in each shot was the princess herself, unaware that she was being watched. “Allow me to humbly pledge my loyalty to you as a tool and servant Lord Vex…” he said, crossing his arm over his chest as he continued to bow.

Cammy gave a loud cry as she crumpled from the blow to the stomach. As fearless and reckless as she was, she was still just a child mostly. It hurt. But revenge would come later. Quinn helped her up then they walked off.

"..." Cammy walked with her head hung. They had lost Sasha. She had reluctantly followed Quinn, knowing that Sasha would be worse off if Cammy was killed. "...Your highness?" She said. "I'm scared. What if we lose Sasha for good? I don't want that to happen..." She wanted to go back and secretly follow them, but she was horrible at sneaking off. She'd need help from her friends back home. That was, if she could find someone irresponsible enough or lenient enough to assist her.

The man stared at the duo as they began counterattacking. One would expect him to dodge, but he did no such thing. He simply stood there. He didn't defend, and didn't make the slightest effort to evade. The glowing bullets struck right through him, and Ishimura's blades tore apart his skin. Most would yell from agonizing pain, but The Hangman seemed utterly unphased by it. At first glance it would seem he deflected the attacks somehow, but upon closer inspection, you would notice that the injures had been there only to heal instantaniously. He reached out a large hand, attempting to grab Ishimura as rope began inching out of his sleeve. ​

​

"That won't happen." Quinn snapped. "I won't let it happen. She knew what she was doing when she was captured, and i'm pretty sure she was counting on us to rescue her." Quinn said. In his voice was the tone of a leader, encouraging and strong, although he would never accept that if someone told him so. "But Cammy, if we're going to rescue her, we have to be prepared. Running off alone wouldn't solve a thing but get you killed. You have to put your faith in me. I'll talk to Caleb, and we'll go after her." Encouraged Quinn. "For now, we just have to head back." ​

Zane looked at Fae. "If I have the choice between helping a person to survive, or abandoning them to die, there's no way I'm going to just leave them" he replied. In truth, he was glad that both of the girls had made a recovery, and even more thankful that he hadn't had to risk his life to save Marlene's, although he still had no doubt in his mind he would have done it had she not recovered. He then glanced sideways at Caleb. "Taking the weapons stronghold by force is the next step right Caleb?" he asked. As the look of shock appeared on Caleb's face, a cheeky grin appeared on Zane's. "You'd be surprised what you can learn if you know where to look" he teased. He petted Ace affectionately, who was still sitting on his shoulder.

​

Caleb didn't find the response anywhere near as amusing as Zane did. If he knew what their next move was, who was to say how many others knew about it? Did Vex know? "..yes, the stronghold is next. I had a plan for how to get into there and do it, but it was risky. However, with your talents, Zane, I feel like there would be another way, without as many casualties" Caleb responded quickly. The way he said 'as many' was something he disliked. He wished he could say 'without any', but the simple fact was that they were in a war. And in every war, sacrifices had to be made for the greater good. Of course, Caleb would not simply be sitting inside while The Resistance stormed the stronghold; No, if they would risk their lives, then so would he. In his eyes, he was no more valuable than any other member of the Resistance.

A look of curiosity flickered across Vex's face as Donte was thrown before him. First the slave was brought back, and then a masked man was thrown in front of him. What other surprises were in store for him? He listened to what Donte said, and was particularly interested when he spoke of the heirs to the throne still being alive. So his suspicions were right, they had not been killed off when he took over as he thought they had, and not only that but they lived with The Resistance. This only fuelled his drive for eradicating them more.

Vex looked carefully through each of the pictures that the masked man produced. "I will allow it, but drop the flattery. There is no room for games in this war, not while the heirs and Resistance still thrive. Tell me, aside from taking pictures of young girls what else do you do? And keep in mind that we have methods for discerning the truth from people" Vex said. He nodded towards Sasha. "That one there will discover this soon enough" he added with a sly grin. What many of the people within the castle did not know, was that Vex had recently acquired an artifact, one that would tell him the answer to any question of his desire.
