Return of Kira: Part Two-Betrayal

breathing roughly Mellody slowly calmed down, bursting into tears again almost immediantly, half formed words escaping her mouth "He... he was al-always... so... so..."

 

"He was always so what?" Theory asked kindly, putting her arm around her in a friendly hug. Praying that if there was a god in heaven that he would smile on her and not cause her to be physically assulted by the distraut blonde.

 

"He...He..." Mellody started once again, finding herself unable to finish and just clinging to Theory tightly, tears freely falling from her...

 

"He...?" Theory asked once more, pulling a tissue from the box on Mellody's bedside table and wondering for a moment if Mellody could even manage to wipe her tears away she was so upset by it. I hate this... People shouldn't be unhappy... She thought to herself as she squeezed her gently and comfortingly.

 

Mellody sighed deeply, feeling Theory's warmth and coming down a little... "...He was u-just so de-termined!" she finally finished half laughing half choking on her own words at the end...

 

"Yeah, he was. Wasn't he?" Theory smiled comfortingly.

 

"I-it was funny at times... and the-then annoying others..." Mellody sighed, crying into Theory's shirt. "Once he de-decided something... that was... that was it..."

 

"Yep, not even L could ever change his mind. No matter how hard he tried." Theory smiled sadly.

 

"All... alll i could ever do was to... to laugh... even when i could've.." Mellody mumbled clinging to Theory tightly for comfort.

 

"Nothing could of changed his mind about anything Saff... Nothing could dent that ego of his and make him doubt his decisions, except Near..."

 

Mellody couldn't help but giggle, if only in the slightest. "I swear... he lived to beat him..."

 

"Maybe to start with, I think that changed later in his life..."

 

Mellody gulped painfully... "What... what do you mean?

 

"I mean, that after he met you it wasn't beating Near he lived for. That was more of a past time, something to strive for. And you know Mello, never went into anything kack-handed. Always threw his mind, body and soul into everything he did..." Theory explained gentley. "But he didn't live to beat Near for most of the time you knew him, and from what I remember seeing of him in the september that made him so different to the angry and as much as I hate to say it, cruel little boy I grew up with."

 

"But..." Mellod started, her curiousity mixing with her distress and confusing her even more and slowly leading her into a state of disbelief. "are...are you saying he lived for me...?

 

"I don't know if I should be telling you this... But there was a team that was sent to investigate Mello's death and the events that led up too it... I was the head of that team. Along with a few of my own agents and," Theory paused for a moment, a look of distaste gracing her face."Lidner. We looked into everything surrounding him, only stopping short of speaking to you as we didn't think that the timing was the best. And again, I don't think this is the best time to tell you, but then again there never will be a right time... It's just one of those things... Well... Mello lived and died for you Saff... The reason he even considered doing what he did... It was the fact someone within your group had taken photos, delivered them to Kira and then killed themselves. Your photo being one of those..."

 

Mellody completly froze, tears falling from her eyes almost as fast as they had before, as she seemed to just stare into space, a deep cold feeling in her chest...

 

"I'm so sorry..." Theory mumbled, hugging Mellody closely "But there never would of been a good moment I don't think... And you needed to know... Just concentrate on the fact that when he said he'd die for you, you actually ment it. Not many people can say that, right?" She smiled comfortingly.

 

Mellody pulled away from Theory, tears freely flowing down her face, as she loked her in the eyes, not even able to kepe a partially straight face as she attempted pitifulyl at asking Theory for a moment to herself...

 

"I'm guessing you want me to leave you alone for a bit then." Theory sighed, pulling herself from the floor. "Just don't do anything Luna would." She semi-joked, giving Mellody a quick hug before heading to the door.
