Return of Kira: Part Two-Betrayal

"Of course I won't." Lana replied, her face still hiden from sight.

 

"Are you okay?"

 

"I'm fine... Just... I dunno..."

 

He held his head. "I'm sorry that I looked at them without your premission."

 

"I told you, it'd fine. I was going to tell you about it later anyway."

 

He nodded.

 

Lana sighed and pulled her head up again. Wordlessly she rolled up her right arm's sleeve and extended it towards Near with her palm facing up. Even at a first glace the scars were visable once the person looking knew they were there. One that seemed older went straight across her wrist, the other a stronger and newer looking scar shot up her pale arm. She couldn't bring herself to look at him as she showed him, he was the first person she'd ever willingly shown them to and she didn't have a clue how he would react.

 

He ran his finger across one scar. "How...why did you do this?"

 

"It made sense at the time... Now I'm not so certain why, I guess it was just everything just got to me. The one you just touched was the first attempt... I was 13 at the time. Five years before I over heard a conversation between my careworker and some guy from a specialist carehome of some sort who'd been coming to see me from time to time. Anyway, he came in one day and I passed the doorway and heard how I wasn't "what they were looking for, not quite good enough to make the cut." Ironicly really those words where what made me cut in the first place... But five years later I was told again I wasn't quite good enough, and I was pretty close to collasping from emotional exhustion then. It was straw that snapped the camel's back I guess. And I thought it wasn't worth inflicting myself on a world I was never quite good enough for..."

 

"You're good enough for me."

 

A smile spread across Lana's lips and shook her head. "With that you proved I'm not, no one's good enough for you."

 

"Why do you say that?"

 

"From what I've observed and learnt of guys, most would of just gone 'Oh...' and then shut up... you didn't." She smiled.

 

He smiled back. "Obiliously I'm not like other guys."

 

"Of course you're not." Lana laughed. "You're actually a nice person."

 

"Actually? Were you suripsed when you found that out?"

 

"Well... To be honest I thought you were a little... up yourself for a little while." Lana laughed nervously.

 

"A lot of people do so it would seem."

 

"I dunno what it was that made me think it... Just part of your general aura, you come across as being very confident in your own abillity. And people like me, with zero self confidence find it a bit of a slap in the face."

 

He nodded before resting his head in her laip. "I think it's time to crash."
