The downside is that the lack of post count encourages and/or endorses offtopic discussion in this section, as it 8oth denies the poster of their 'reward' for posting meaningful posts and implies that the posts here are of the same calibre as spam.

I personally think if you are going to give out rep like its free candy that it takes away from the point of rep. Besides its not like rep = respect so it isn't that big of a deal. If someone does something for you then thank them. That to me anyway is more effective then a tiny green square.

I would also like to point out that tiny changes in the rep system end up with a fairly dramatic change over time.

If allowed to give rep more often, then people have generally higher rep values, then reps count for more with an exponential growth. Basically all this does is cause inflation with the rep system.

Like P I would need to see something wrong with the current system before I support this.

I really don't think it's small. The fact that the more rep you have, the more you give is a fair concept.

Has anyone thought about the fact that if you could limitlessly positive rep people, it would also mean you could limitlessly negative rep people. Can you imagine the drama of that? Really not worth it. What I do when I hit my limit is keep a list in word, with the member name, and the post I want to rep them for.

Ugh. Negative rep drama would be annoying...
