This is not the place for this, but...

That other side is some kind of legal framework forcing the company to hire queer workers. The mindset of the other employees and management at those companies will not change just by forcing them to live with it. If such a law is passed then queer people will not be welcome as a matter of culture and will quit on their own instead.

    Pick your poison.

Does it only apply to LGBT or can you discriminate against anyone if it's motivated by a sincerely held religious belief?

    Anyone.

I claim the right to refuse to hire anyone who is not a Satanist.

No, but the paychecks of the people they' ve been forced not to fire would. If I had to like my boss to work somewhere I wouldn' t have worked much. People are hired to take care of a precise task, how poorly you performed that task should be the only thing that can get you fired because it' s the only relevant one.

Sure, in practice there are lots of ways to get around it and fire people for who they are anyway, I' m still glad that my country does not recognize bigotry as a valid reason to fire people.

Transphobia discrimination is different from homophobia. So is biphobia; and so on.

Queer is an umbrella term for minorities in sexual orientation, gender, and so on issues. Queerphobia is pretty good umrella term for fear of anything non-cis in these regards.

    Fixed.

So queer doesn't necessarily mean homosexual? I always thought it was just another slang term like gay that has another meaning (weird).

It's still used to mean 'implausible' or 'outside common understanding'.

Compared to many countries where simply being homosexual is a crime, the U.S. is not that bad, and is progressively getting better.

Sure, it's easy to look at the stupid things going on like with this case in Texas, but it's also important to consider how much progress has been made in ending the employer discrimination.

I had a pretty well thought out post on how this could eventually turn out to be beneficial for the gay community, but then I realized that someone somewhere would be offended, deleted that, and wrote this instead:

Y'all'd've'd rethought that title if you had remembered that Janime is from America's America.[DOUBLEPOST=1415831403][/DOUBLEPOST]
Because that's totally the only kind of person that counts as an American.

Not your fault. KS's white liberal guilt backfired and made him feel entitled to mock people.

Actually, my white middle-of-the-horseshoe guilt has recently led me to the realization that activism is just like driving on the freeway. You have to pick a lane and then stay in your lane until you've reached your exit. Otherwise you risk killing lots of people in other lanes. The lane I've chosen is the fight against classism. Once the net-wage gap between the rich and poor is resolved (higher classed people who work below their class DO end up with more money than lower classes for the same work due to a number of reasons) it'll be much easier to deal with similar problems in other aspects of society.
