Hence my different comment. Both games were gritty, but not just for the sake of it.

    Did everyone forget Xenoblade happened?

    But everyone hates JRPGs nowadays.

Everyone just wants more shootan and grimdark action games.

    Also uninspired Tolkien bullshit WRPGs.

I would explain what I mean about the gritty in Max Payne 3, but there's a video that already does that better.

I already saw that, but what they fail to mention is that he does actually grow out of it towards the end of the game. The game ending with him finally having peace and living a good life. That was the whole point of the game.

As opposed to Anime inspired JRPGs? They're both ****** set-ups.

It came out of nowhere though. There was no point of redemption. There was "SUDDENLY! LIFE GOT BETTER! THANKS FOR THE HELP BULLETS!!!!"

A lot of JRPGs are animu inspired, yes. Though honestly, the main series we all think of, Final Fantasy, isn't very anime inspired at all.

It was the climax. When he shaved his head. He finally put all that drinking and crying aside and made his mission tracking down that rich cunt. It was the moment when he stopped being that depressed drunk and turned into the Max Payne from the first game. A man determined to achieve his goal.

Its not like people are hating jrpgs because its a trend its just japan is not dominating in this market like they did with PS2.

[granted japan still has gr8 games on PS3/360/Wii]

What does that even mean? Anime inspired?

What I'm trying to say is that every fantasy WRPG follows the same Tolkien bullshit. Orcs, elves, dragons, etc. It's the same setting with minor changes because ORIGINAL SETTING DO NOT STEAL.

However, in JRPGs, there's no trump card setting to turn to, and thus unique settings and stories are always present.

    Fun fact: You're mistaken.

Japan WAS NOT dominant last gen.

In fact, the only reason JRPGs existed back then was because of two things: (1)FFIX and FFX sold like hot cakes and (2) the graphical budget for them could be sh*t.

Art styles, animation, camera effects, over-exaggerated facial expressions and ridiculous hairstyles.
You're generalizing. Not every WRPG does that.

Right, stories with brilliant plot devices like time travel, deus ex machina, resurrections and setting any laws that they want, then breaking them. There's a reason why most people in the US don't like JRPG, and it's because we're used to having well grounded stories with a clear set of rules, and moments in the story revolving around that. In JRPGs however, you have no laws, anything can happen, and while you may think it's creativity, it's laziness. I'm not saying that WRPGs don't do this some times, but happens in almost every JRPG I have ever played, which is why I stopped playing them. That, and the terrible combat systems. I don't really feel like arguing with you Jerome. Let's just accept that we don't like each other and ignore each other.

But I do like you. I'm sorry if it doesn't seem like that. We just have different opinions. :\

Alright, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. Agree to disagree then.

One family, guys. No fighting. Debating is fine, but if you're going to wear that tag, remember what you represent.

As much as I loved Alan Wake, it wasn't anything SUPER amazing. Plus, JPRGS have been on the decline, but a few gems here and there have appeared over the years (coughNieRcough)

The only game(s) I've recently liked/played was Arkham City (really great story wise) and Lollipop Chainsaw (I LOVE CAMPY STUFF, plus the B movie references and nods to TV shows and movies, A+)

And then you have Dead Island which could've been amazing but...
    yeah
