Remember when Bush was criticized for staying in the kids' classroom after 9/11?

Congress is in charge of of making sure good laws get passed, bad laws don't, declaring war, and electing the Supreme Court. Yes, they can do things, but the Administrative branch already has quasilegislative and quasijudicial power anyway. As long as they have that power, it's better for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to take care of it.

No... I didn't have much interest in politics in 2001. What happened so I know what action Obama is being referenced to in the original post?

Dude, I don't like Obama very much either, but give him a break. Sure, he doesn't DO much, but it's not like in the maybe half hour he took to do this he could have solved all the world's problems. While I think he has been taking too much leisure time in general, this is the least of it. And he has done some good, so don't hate too hard. He's about as good as Bush, except he didn't kick our educational system while it was down.

I'm not saying Bush was amazing, but this guy is a lot worse in my opinion. Bush spent 4.7 trillion dollars over the course of 8 years. Obama has spent 4.2 trillion in TWO YEARS. We seriously cannot take much more of that.

Considering what he has to clean up, I'd say that it comes as no surprise that he's had to spend so much money in a short amount of time, but knowing how restless and short-tempered most Americans seem to be about politics, taking his time on the matter would just cause the public to become even more restless. I think the main problem here is that there's so much to do and the pressure the people put on him affects his image a bit.

Boy, you are some kind of dumb****.

Guys, please don't start posting insults or generalizations. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

As for me, I don't have anything against Obama personally. I'm not particularly happy about him filling out a sports bracket when so much stuff is going on; I will say however that I not only disagree with him doing it for the international community's sake but also for his sake: it's only getting him more negative attention from the media. Overall I'd say, not a smart move, but what's done is done. He probably spent a lot less time worrying about it than he has about issues that are actually important politically, anyway. He's a human being, he's allowed to do fun things if he likes... He just needs to prioritize better, especially with all of this crazy attention. IMO this has been blown way out of proportion just for the sake of making a regular guy look bad.
I'm not that happy with the direction this country is going, but he didn't get us into this mess himself and it's understandable it'd be much more difficult to get us out of it. I think he's doing his best, but there's a lot to fix. I also would rather not pin the origin of the issue all on him, or Bush for that matter -- it takes a whole administration to screw something up this badly. The President isn't the only one who makes decisions in the government.

    That's my two cents, anyway.

So after reading the thread a few times, I still don't get what the problem is. Can someone explain it for me? And in layman's terms?

The funny thing is that the thing he's spent the most money on is his healthcare plan. That's also causing tons of taxes. It's insane that he thinks we can afford that right now. If you want to implement an insanely expensive healthcare plan, don't do it when we can afford it.
    Please be trolling.
That's the funny thing though, the media really isn't giving him any bad press for it. The day that it happened i was watching the news and the woman said it right after talking about the Japan disaster. Just reported it like any other news with a big smile on her face.

Spending trillions of dollars on healthcare, sinking us into even more debt, is not going to help. Spending exponentially faster than any other president in history is not going to help. Filling out NCAA brackets is not going to help. Having Justin Beiber in the White House is not going to help.
If he's really that concerned about getting us out of this mess, he really isn't showing it.

We were in a recession. And now we're starting to come out of it. It's typical monetary policy for the government to spend more during a recession to get us out. You would rather ahve him raise taxes during a recession?

It's funny because that bracket is LAST YEAR'S NCAA bracket.
But he did pick a bracket for this year.

Either way, I don't think comparing this to 9/11 is fair.
"What's that? Japan got struck by an earthquake? Let me just finish my bracket and I'll do something."
"What's that? Terrorists flew a plane into the twin towers? Let me finish reading to this kids and I"ll do something."

...He DID raise taxes. Not directly, but he took away several incentives that Bush instated. For example, my parents can no longer claim me for going to college at a young age.
You're right. 9/11 was a disaster for our country. What is going on in Japan has the potential to be a disaster for the entire world.

But you're ignoring the fact that the thing he spent the most money on, healthcare, has absolutely nothing to do with getting us out of a recession. That was just spending money we don't have. Like I said if you're going to do something like that, do it when we can afford it.

I identify myself as Republican and I actually sort of like him. I just don't like him as President. A state office is better for a Democrat. I'm actually closer to an Anti-Federalist, but with the belief in a stronger central government that the Articles of Confederation had. Republicans should rule the country, and Democrats should rule the states. Communism belongs in the home. That's the best way to break down government. Every ideology has a place, and each one has slightly more power over slightly different things.

And besides, I prefer not to be forced to exercise my rights. If I want health care, I'll buy it myself and if I don't have enough money, I'll appeal to the State, not the feds, for benefits.

Yup, you sure are "intittle". But you seem to fail to realize that being entitled to your own opinion does not mean no one can say anything bad about it. I am also entitled to my own opinion. And it is my opinion that your opinion is crap.
