You should play the others up to Homecoming, they're all great games. I know Homecoming wasn't as good as other SH titles, but it was bizarre, scary, and fun enough for me to enjoy it. Also, it had Akira Yamaoka.
Didn't feel like a SH game though, Downpour felt like one, but it lacked the fear and enemy design, some gooey mix of Homecoming and Downpour that only take the nice bits might actually make a decent game.
If I get into video game commentary I'll play the others. I loved playing SH. I love old games and I was scared during playing it. Especially when I plugged my headphones into my PSP and turned off all the lights.
I saw that picture before I even played the game so it wasn' t a shocker for me. As soon as I saw it in-game I wanted to bring Eileen there to see her reaction, which was disappointing. The first time I saw SH4 a friend of mine was playing it on his PC. His reaction when he saw a Twin Victim for the first time was just hilarious (pure panic, in-game and irl). ^^ Spoiler
