If my mom or I want to learn more about Jesus, we have hands and can research it ourselves.

Those people that come by to try and spread the message are annoying.

What in the name of science did you just say about me, you little *****? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in Evolutionary Quantum Physics, and I have over 300 featured publications. I am trained in the Theory of Evolution and I'm the top scholar in the entire scientific world. You are nothing to me but another non thinker. I will teach you the Evolution of the human genome with the largest amount of scientific proof that has ever been seen; mark my words. You think you can get away with still believing in God? Think again, bigot. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of top scientists and scholars across the USA and you're going to be forced to accept science and reason, so you better prepare for your awakening, sir. The awakening that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call christianity. You'll be educated soon, sir. I can teach you anywhere, anytime, and I can recite by name over seven hundred common ancestors of man, and that's just off the top of my head. Not only am I extensively trained in scientific debate, but I have access to the entire literature of the University of Cambridge and I will use it to its full extent to bring you into Atheism, you little Jesus lover. If only you could have known what retribution your belief system was about to bring down upon you, maybe you wouldn't have challenged Atheism. But you couldn't, you didn't and now you're paying the price, you goddamned christian. I will teach the Theory of Evolution all over you and you will drown in it. You'll be an Atheist soon, kiddo

I actually don't mind people like that. It always bugs me why most people do. I understand that people don't like being preached to (I'm that way myself), but all you have to do is tell them "No thank you, have a nice day" and they should just go on their merry way.

I mean, tell "no" to someone is such hard work and takes up too much of your day, right?

I mean, I was nice and said we weren't interested, but yeah.

And more often then not, they do leave.

I mean, I get that. If someone's annoying, that's just that single person being annoying, not the organization. And it kind of helps if you know how missionaries work, and that multiple people are sent around the world to spread their version of the gospel.

Last year, I was in the library, waiting in line for something, when someone pointed out my backpack was open. These missionaries there joked that "he' put his Book of Mormon in there" for me to read. Now, I like Mormons, but I don't follow that religion. I do find what they believe interesting though, and not in a sarcastic way. I talked to them a bit about religion and such for a bit, and then we parted ways. If I didn't say anything, and just said "no thanks", I'm willing to bet they would've said "have a nice day" and left me alone.

And I posted something a while ago that some lady gave me a letter saying that I needed to turn off what I was watching because "God doesn't want me to watch it" when I was on a campus computer. It was one of Todd in the Shadows reviews, and it didn't have anything racy in there. That's someone forcing their ideals on me, which is not pleasant. It all just matters in how someone goes about it.

The issue is that it's a common enough practice with those individuals that it becomes a stereotype. My dad is very anti-religion, and angrily tells off the people who visit our house every time they come... because they've kept coming for over 20 years. Obviously there's good in there too, but it's not common enough that they're not known for the bad

It's not like they harmed you in any way, ooo they showed up and wanted to talk to you about their beliefs. That's just criminal.

people generally don't like it when strangers show up on their property period. doing it to try to convert you to some religion is worse
coming back after being told to stop is even worse

People can also be very narrow minded and won't even come close to budging because at the end of the day their "ideals" are correct no matter what because they are afraid of being wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I am no jehovah's witness (aka the people that go door to door, generally) however I am the type of person who is really fucking sick of one side talking poorly of the other, hell there shouldn't be sides in the first place. Someone showing up to your house isn't a huge deal and if it was you should probably live in a gated community or find some way to keep people from showing up. That's the thing, people bitch and moan about it but never do anything to stop it.

Honestly I'm more guessing why this bugs people since when they come to my door I just chat with them for a bit. I think they think they're converting me because of this, but I just find their beliefs interesting
Honestly I have more issue when people narrow it down to a specific group "these specific people who go door to door suck, but the ones that follow my religion are fine!" I don't see an issue with not liking it, because at least be consistent about it

    Okay that's fair.

But one thing I find a bit odd is the whole "I mean, I was nice and said we weren't interested, but yeah." then he goes to talk shit on them behind their backs. How is that nice lol. This seems to be the general response most people have, which really gets on my nerves.

A mormon stopped me in the middle of the street to proselytize once. I didn' t know squat about mormons and he had a strong American accent, so I was intrigued. Turns out he was Canadian. I warned him I was curious about his religion, but purely from a cultural perspective. We spoke for about half an hour, but in the end we didn' t talk much about mormon beliefs. Given what I read later on in the leaflets he gave me it was probably for the best.

As for them knocking on my door ... they don' t do that here. I only remember it happening once, at my parents. I think it was Jehovah witnesses, I' m not sure, it' s my lil sis who answered. They asked if my parents were here and she said no. When they insisted and asked her how old she was she said it was none of their business and slammed the door, which had me rofl. I didn' t know my 12 years old sis already had that much nerve in her. But yeah, here they usually just leave leaflets in your mailbox.

We'll get Jehovah's Witnesses every so often. Usually we refuse to answer the door or, like the time they caught me out doing yard work, just said a simple 'no thank you'. They gave me a pamphlet, got in their convertible, and left.

We haven't seen them around for a few years though.

They came by sometime last month (I'm not sure if they were with JW, but they were wearing white), but generally we don't see them too often, either.

I feel like this is a good place to mention that I'm an ordained minister for the Church of the Latter Day Dude.

I don't mind if they come up to me in public, but I can see how others would be bothered by them knocking on your door. If there's any place you should have the opportunity to be alone, it's at home... Seems a bit inavisve. I feel the same way about people knocking on my door to sell me something, even if it's just girl scouts. Just an in welcome disturbance. I still just say I'm not interested and thanks.
