For most of my life, I've had the good fortune of dating girls that have the same views on religion as I do. But because of a certain situation in my life, I've wondered, what do you guys think about dating someone with different religious beliefs as you. Does it matter, or does it never really cross your mind? And to even go to extremes, would there be a situation where you wouldn't even consider dating them? Tell me your thoughts on it.

I probably wouldn't care if they were a different religion. What they believe in is what they believe, and I don't have any right to say against it

Well, in my town, there were these two Muslim girls, they were from Egypt, and their father was super strict when it came to who they dated because they couldn't date outside of their religion. Well they did, he found out, and he killed them. He fled the country soon after.

I don't get people like that, it just really doesn't make any sense to me, and since I'm Agnostic and my parents/my dad are/is Atheist, they don't care who I date. But really, I try to stay away from the people who have hardcore Christian parents because I can barely deal with a few of my aunts and uncles.

I don't even think my family cares who I date in religious terms. In racial terms...yeah, they care a bit. I've never had the issue of talking about religion with the person I'm seeing because it doesn't really cross our minds. He believes in God while I'm rather unsure of what to believe. Even if the matter did come up, I wouldn't really want to talk about my religious beliefs because it makes me feel uncomfortable for some reason.

I don't think it should even matter now at such a young age because you're just dating. If you got married and had a family with the person, then I'd understand why the matter of religion would come up. You'd practically have to decide if you'd raise your family believing in one's beliefs or in the other's.

The thing is, the fact that people think that because somebody doesn't believe the same as you do that they're worse

Just date who you like. That's it, in my opinion.

You might have a problem if it's just who you like. I think it goes both ways for the guy and girl

I don't care as long as they respect my views. I will be honest, I'd prefer to go out with someone who was a Christian but a non-christian can still agree with my beliefs with alterarions so I see no difference. The one thing I don't want is to be forced into sex for obvious reasons but as long as they don't do that then I'm alright.

I only care about extreme differences. Like, Satanist + Me wouldn't work out. Or, if someone who had a religion that required my lifestyle to drastically change, no. Other than that, I'm not sure I care so much. The only thing is...

Well, in my current relationship, the one I'm dating has a huge case of blind faith. Whereas I doubt and question and debate everything--in search of the truth that I'll probably never find. xD It makes him uncomfortable, because it's like I start to heavily influence what he thinks. I'll go on religious rants not even directed at him and he'll start feeling confused about his own beliefs. I don't want to make him doubt his faith, but as my boyfriend I do like to have these discussions with him--to explain my thoughts and feelings about the world.

It'd be a lot easier if he had the same mind-set I do. It annoys me when he believes everything he's heard, just because he's heard it, but I have to be respectful and try not to break his faith with my own personal issues with religion.

It wouldn't work out. I would sow doubt in any partner with every chance that I got, and that would cause them pain if they could not let go.

I don' t care what people (close to me or not) believe in as long as they' re tolerant and open-minded.

You' re not talking about some random stranger here, you' re talking about your boyfriend. If you can' t speak your mind whenever he' s around then what' s the point of your relationship ?
There' s faith, and then there' s dumb (blind) faith. My own two cents, if I may : do him a favor, treat him as someone who actually has a brain and don' t be afraid to challenge his viewpoints. Whether it changes him into an atheist, helps him towards finding true faith or makes you loose a moronic boyfriend it' s a win-win-win situation.

So I'm an Orthodox Christian, and if I were to be paired up with say, a Jewish girl, then there'd probably be problems between the parents (hers and mine) and I'd have to let her go. If not, then I'm not very big on religion anyway, so who knows? Maybe she'll be driven away by the other stuff.

Personally, if I like someone and they like me, and therefore if we wanna go out, religion shouldn't get in the way.
I'd like the other person for who they are, not for their religion, and I would hope it is the same for them with me.
I would however respect their thoughts and views on their religion though etc, and again, I would hope for the same in return.

But yeah, that is just how I view things.

I don't think any girl who follows their religion's teachings to the letter would be able to put up with me.
My lifestyle automatically removes me from their consideration list, so it's never really been a relevant question for me.

I think it really depends on who the people are. In my case, I honestly hate the word "religion", for multiple reasons. I think it depends on the people in the situation on whether or not it will work out Or not.

Well, I'm a Roman Catholic. A lot in my country are - most of us really. And well, this issue never really crossed my mind. And it's not just because majority of where I live do believe in the same religion.

Religion is one of the most important things in life, really. I believe that God made this world, and He made us to live in it, and etc. I don't mind spending my time with people who believe otherwise. I mean, sometimes it could be hard, since we've lived with our beliefs and they've lived with theirs - we won't be able to meet at the same point, maybe not even halfway. However, looking at it positively, you can learn a lot of things from each other. You don't have to convert or anything like that, but you can learn to appreciate each other more and I think that's really important nowadays.

There will be some things that will bother me of course, like if you look at the negatives and you start this awful debate about things. Possibly, lots of fights about different beliefs and knowledge of things and the such. But then again, if you look at the positive and try to work with that - then I don't think Religion will be any problem when it comes to love. Unless you're a Satanist. I'm sorry, but no. I don't think I could ever do that either.

I'm orthodox, and I'm going to try and stay with Orthodox, or Christian at least. Thing is I go to a Catholic school, and their beliefs and stuff are a lot different to mine. I would never date someone who's not Christian-and I know that sounds really mean but the beliefs and customs and stuff are just too different. There are also a lot of church laws. According to my church, I'm not allowed to marry a Protestant Christian, but I can marry a Catholic. So if in the future I was thinking seriously about stuff, then religion would affect me. The other thing (sorry) I wouldn't go out with an Atheist, just because I'm such a firm God-believer, who regularly goes to church. Not that being with an Atheist would be that much of a problem, just if we ever had debates on the existence of God...it wouldn't end well.

Personally I don't really care, but I think that some religions can't work together, depending on the strength of faith. Simply because even though both religions would teach good things, in the end, you'd realize you have two different ideas of life more or less. (Doesn't always count, but still.) But if I were in love with the girl, nothing would keep me from being with her, even though in the end, it wouldn't last.

I would never turn down someone because of their religion, except satanists. I no "discriminate" ^^,

I'm something of a LaVeyan Satanist. Why all the hate?

Because if you're a satanist, basically you believe in the fact that there's a good God, and you're rooting for the bad guy :p

Dan Cummins put it nicely: "Are you sure you're a satanist, and not just an ******* trying to ruin everyone elses fun?"

But hey, everyone has their faith

I recommend reading up on Satanism, and specifically LaVeyan Satanism before stating that...
