Implemented Rehaul the censor system.

It's been bugging me for a while and I think I ended up yelling at you Misty during a thread about this, but the censor system needs rehauled.

It should either be updated, or removed completely.

I get the common courtesy of **** words out so that members aren't reading FUCK, SHIT, BITCH and the like, but as I just proved we all know how to get around it.

What annoys me more about it though is that words like ****** aren't censored, which in my eyes is a much more offensive term to read than any swear word.

(i'd include ****** in this, but it has a practical use, just no one uses it)

I know the system hasn't been rethought since like 2008, but it's honestly time to, either update it to at least include bigotry and racist terms aswell, or get rid of the system entirely, given that everyone just bypasses it.

 

That's my point, I understand the system, but it's completely made obsolete by the loops, which is why I could see it just being removed, but I like the courtesy of just letting the system censor you, it's really the words that are censored I'm annoyed with.

 

I agree, if there's a way around it, why have it?

Also, i agree with you about the words that people actually find offensive as well.

 

I don't censor myself on purpose because **** just look unsightly.

But if I wish to say "THIS IS FUCKING HYPE" I will remove the censor, because it ruins the thing.

I haven't actually used swears in an angry tone on this site in a long time, so I can't say much for the whole hiding the rage thing.

 

I agree. I censor myself as a common courtesy, but I don't think many members on here find fuck or shit offensive. I've never seen anyone use those words in a rude or flaming way. Yes, there are younger members on here, but it should be up to the parents to teach the member not to say those words.

I'd rather ****** be censored than fuck, and I'm not hugely even offended by it. It's just rude.

I think this should be done at least, just to add words that should also be censored.

 

I support either a removal or switching around the censors, but I'm leaning towards removal. It's not like a lot of people use the words in question, and when they do, they usually get around it.

i'm pretty much for removal of the censor system. expecially since it's very weird to see bastard censored, but not ******. it's very choosey and people don't use the censored words all that often.

I must say I'm for getting rid of censer system because of basically what everyone else has already said- its stupid that more offensive words aren't censered and most people just get around the censer anyway-I don't only because I'm extremely lazy,but yeah just my two cents

Well, we are a PG-13 site, we keep it because it's what we aim for in terms of conduct on the site.

So that's all i can really think on the matter at the mo.

 

On that note, curse words are allowed to be said in PG-13 movies. Even fuck.

 

They do not censor profanity in PG-13 movies. They just don't use it every other word.

 

4 accounts of swear words to be exact, at most along with other elements.

The thing is it's used to dissuade the use of offensive language by people against others. I don't see the problem people have with it to be honest, I have only ever bothered to actually use swear words like twice in my whole time here, both to express my utter ****ing hatred for a particular subject.
I mean, why do you want to swear more? And does anyone have a suggestion on how to reform it then?

 

If you read the thread as well as the OP, either removing it completely or censoring words like ****** and more offensive non-swear words is what has been suggested.

 

I'm fine with adding more words to the filter list, and I will go do that now actually. Starting with the two most mentioned thus far.

But I don't think it's necessary to completely remove the filtered words, it still keeps a lot of crap out despite people making a rather amusing effort to bypass it.
