Rep isn't really that important. I have yet to recall a member who had the post requirement for Premium and yet didn't have the rep long before. Rep has kind of always been given more attention by us all than it deserves. We all get bad rep. It can suck. No one likes to get bad rep points but without the bad, what's the use in the good rep either? It has its pros and cons. Rep is just something to give other members, and really doesn't hold much consequence over anything. I'd be reluctant to move to any system that grants that rep would mean something more by using points etc. There are already enough complaints rep is abused and we all know that some people would just help each other to get more points to buy things while others slowly progress. Also, what people have now might have to start over again so the premies would be rather altered. Instead, we should just try to take rep itself less seriously because really, unless someone is being sincere with positive or negative rep, as in offering a critique that is constructive, really, all it is happens to be little gem stones we get or lose. That's my thought on it all anyway.

As for what Jayn asked.. I asked the same thing elsewhere and in the end, I can see the bad thing to the request as well as the good. Maybe if people have to have their names attached to things, they'll be less inclined to give out nasty rep messages or nothing and just derep. However, the other thing to factor in is that some people who take negative things very poorly would go and attack those who gave them negative rep and then we'd have to step in and deal with the person attacking for bad rep. It's a rough call on what is the better option here.

If you wanna remove it completely, I don't really care.

The way it was used for getting premium was useless, and the amount of de-rep abuse I've got through the system amazes me... (I just end up laughing it off)

I like Jayn's idea of auto-signing, and if it's possible, I'd love to have that over complete removal :)

i totally agree. there isn't much of a point to rep after you reach 100, and people abuse it a lot. i'm not sure about a credit system, but i'd like to try it.

I think that this anouncement has actually done more harm than good to the rep system. I've gotten more unsigned rep in the past couple of days than I usually do in a two month period. People aren't scared of getting in trouble for stupid dereps anymore. It's kinda irritating. >_>

I haven't had this problem, in fact I've had more signed now than I think ever. But, I totally saw this coming. Without restrictions and being busted, people are willing to rep without signatures. More so than that, people are more willing to de-rep now. I think in the very least if people can rep without getting busted for poor repping then they should HAVE to sign rep...I'm not sure if that's possible, but it would be better. Either they should have to sign rep, or rep should come with their user names attached. I know that some people won't feel comfortable with this idea, but if your willing to rep or de-rep someone, why be afraid if they know who you are? The only reason to be afraid is if your de-repping them unfairly or if your saying cruel things in your de-rep (both of the scenarios could possibly apply to rep...it would be weird, but it could happen). As for people attacking other people over rep...well, people attack other people over offensive posts as well. I've seen it countless times. Either way, people who take criticism or harsh comments poorly will attack people, be it in posts, user notes, visitor messages, PMs, or anything else. What makes the rep system any different?

    But, if the entire rep system is removed, that's fine, too. Honestly, I don't care what happens with the rep system. I think it's interesting to see what people have to say and stuff, but it's not that important, really. Eh, I was just rambling. ^^;

Remove it. Folk whore it with their bumchums on msn. They cry when they get a unjustified derep. As others have said, it causes unnecessary problems n' it means squat. It doesn't reflect a member's status on the forum.

Whole opinion on the rep system:

I think when you are a new member of the site, older members make it seem like rep is the only way you are gonna get your voice heard,or get your opinions listened to or blah di blah.
And the older members don't even know it sometimes, like when I was a newb;I only wanted rep because I thought you had to be cool to get it.

And then when I started getting rep,I realized it's not really that important.
Although it's been here for as long as I can remember,I think it is often up to be "ONLY GOOD MEMBERS HAVE A LOT OF REP" or whatever.
Because to be honest, just because you have more rep than another person it doesn't mean anything.
Like: " I have more rep than someone so that means I'm cooler."
    I mean,that's honestly lame.

I think that if you removed the rep system; some members who be so annoyed and others would be like "whatever"
I mean like; the site is full of rep whores and if it stayed I think Jayn's idea would be the best for it.
I think the rep system is abused,so we should either remove it or work on it.
Some people de-rep people for absolutely no reason, like I've gotten de-reps from people for no reason.

I think that the staff stepping back from investigating every single damn de-rep is a good move, because really, it was getting ridiculous.

I think the rep system should stay, if anything because it is one of the few things that is kh-v.

Repwhoring and the spam zone are two of the things I associate with here, that and drama and ****.

Everyone has at some point or another de-repped someone else for no reason, nobody is innocent on that issue despite what they might attempt to make others think. Similarly everyone has at some point or another been de-repped themselves.

It happens, deal with it, get over it, besides, when someone de-reps they take off half the number of points that they potentially give, so be bloody grateful that they don't take off the maximum.

I do think though that it might be an idea to remove the rep requirement for prem, because that is where a lot of issues come in and if staff aren't going to investigate de-reps anymore then keeping the requirement is pointless.

Rep is just something fun, it means little and has no real impact, but I think going to the extent of removing it is going too far.

Also, why the **** is my rep title Jesus? D:

I agree with autosigning, I sign my de-reps anyways.

If it leads to people counter de-repping so what? It won't be investigated either way.

Isn't it supposed to be "user is an omni ultra epic individual" or something like that?

CtR, some of us on this site have -never- derepped anyone because we simply don't believe in doing so, though yes, we are the dramatic minority ~yo. That's not to say we're -better- than anyone else.

Point is though that we've all gotten negative rep and it should just not matter that much. Rep is simply a popularity thing. Sure, some people use it for what it was 'intended' for, which is to give good rep to something cool and bad rep to something insulting or just stupid. There are not going to be that many sites out there with several members on them that are going to use any rep system for what it was intended for. The popular people always win more rep whether they are really cool or ultimate ******s anyway (or both xD).

I wouldn't mind the auto-signing reps/dererps, as long as people can handle it maturely. By maturely, if someone dereps you, it should go no further than you deal with it, or if need be, you derep the other person and don't involve 30 friends xD. It doesn't matter to me really either way. I suppose the one thing I would be more in favor for out of it is to have rep as a requirement removed from premies, even though as I said before, the post count is usually what holds people up, as they get the rep requirements long before.

    Alright, Announcement, people!

You guys will notice now that when you go to your User CP and look at Rep, you can now see the reputation left by other members. (If I did it right). I set it so everyone on the forum can see their own reputation and who it was left by. That way it's fair to us all. If for some reason you can't see it, go ahead and send me a PM or user note or whatever. My test victims all declared they could so we should be good to go.

The idea has been mentioned for a long time to go ahead and have reputation be visible to us all, and now it's active so be happy people. xD

The other thing that will be changing regarding reputation. Since the staff will no longer be taking reports for reputation altering, unless a member wishes to remove a derep him/herself... Reputation is no longer going to count as a requirement to getting Premium. The requirement now to attaining Premium status will be 1000 posts. Keep in mind, this means that if you post in post count areas, you should still post 'quality' posts and not spam to boost your post count up. Reputation seldom if ever held anyone down from Premium status, so do not just go around post whoring, please. :)

Hopefully, these changes will make reputation work for everyone and yet not be the burden it was becoming to staff and to members.

I'm pretty sure your rank and how much rep you have, like I know admins give around 40 rep because they have such a high rank.

Another point for every 100 rep and 1000 posts i believe. I think. And then also depending on how long youve been on site.

B****in'! I was one of the people with this suggestion, so I am happy to see it happen :D

I believe you give +1 rep for every 100 rep recieved, every 1000 posts, and every six months you've been a member.
