    Hello everyone,

think the topic says all. I want to link my PS2 to my computer, and then play PS2 on it with some programm, which should be able to record what I am playing. I thought KH-Vids.Net is a great place to start asking because it exactly does what I want xD

    So can anybody help me?

    Thanks!
    MoD

EDIT: Didn't know wherew to post this, so please move it to the right location if it's wrong in here. :)

Three capture methods I recommend are either:

    - Capture Card (or USB/firewire device if you're feeling rich) --> record TV input to computer
    - Record video input onto DVD using DVD player --> rip DVD to video onto computer
    - Record video input onto digital camcorder --> rip camcorder video to computer

Argh. It's a bit complicated if you have absolutely no idea how video feeds work.

You'll have to look up tutorials if you want to learn how to do each of the methods, but I"ll try to at least generalize what happens:

    Capture Card method:
You directly connect the video/audio outputs from your console (for PS2, these are either by RF, Composite, S-video, or Component) to ports located on the capture card. The capture card then takes these signals and displays it on your computer screen (in essence your computer becomes the TV), by which then you can record the content directly onto your computer as a video file.

    DVD player method:
I haven't tried this myself, but it seems pretty obvious what happens. Much how you can record television shows onto a VCR, you can record video inputs from your TV onto a DVD using a DVD player. Each DVD player has different settings on how to record, but the objective is the same. Use a blank DVD-R or a DVD-RW and pop it into your DVD player. Adjust the DVD player onto the right video input on the TV (i.e. the one your PS2 is currently using) and record away. After doing this, rip the DVD contents into video files onto your computer. NOTE: Ripping DVDs into video files onto your computer also requires specific knowledge to do, and usually requires a program. There are many tutorials on how to do this as well.

    Digital Camcorder method:
I personally have used this for most of my video gameplay footage. The video/audio outputs from my console are directly fed into the digital camcorder and recorded accordingly. However, since I can't really see what I'm doing, I split the video/audio feeds into two sources: the video camera (to be recorded) and onto my TV (so I can actually play the game). After the gameplay is recorded, rip the camcorder footage onto your computer (using the program that usually comes with your digital camcorder. I use DVGate Plus) as video files.

Online is a great place to buy capture cards.

I haven't exactly explored the market for these things, but while I do think you can buy some from electronic stores, the variety you can choose from is probably limited.

I use a Pinnacle Dazzle DVC 130 USB2 Capture device on my laptop and it encodes High Quality MPEG-2 (Hardware Encoding) easy to convert to dvd or video streams.

well if I paid £60 for it then kinda. a PC capture card is more expensive though. usually around £100 for a good one. Pinnacle ones are the best though.

a dvd recorder is over £100 in price. a capture card lets you work on the videos directly.

Pioneer or Sony usually but I don't recommend using them as the quality wouldn't be as good as a capture card. and it's too much fart assing around ripping the video from the DVD.
