"If we could shrink the earth’s population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all of the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following. There would be:
    57 Asians
    21 Europeans
14 from the Western Hemisphere, both North and South America
    8 would be Africans
    52 would be female
    48 would be male
    70 would be non-white
    30 would be white
    70 would be non-Christian
    30 would be Christian
    89 would be heterosexual
    11 would be homosexual
6 people would possess 59% of the entire world’s wealth and all 6 would be from the US.
80 would live in substandard housing
70 would be unable to read
    50 would suffer from malnutrition
    1 would be near death
    1 would be near birth
1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education
1 (yes, only 1) would own a computer
When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent.
    And, therefore...
If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of the world.
If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.
If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.
If you can attend a church or other religious place without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.
If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.
If you hold up your head with a smile on our face and are truly thankful, you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.
If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over 2 billion people in the world who cannot read at all.
As you read this and are reminded how life is in the rest of the world, remember just how truly blessed you are."

My fingers hurt. I had to type that out myself.

That's a very interesting perspective, and a bit poetic as well. I knew it was bad in the world, but I didn't realize it was that bad.

1 out of 100 persons is educted? That's... really sad. D:

God. That really put things in perspective.
The amount of people with **** in their lives...that's really frightening. And so sad.

That was such a beautiful yet sad poem, and I think for some of us, it has opened our eyes, because what we take for granted is what others need in the world...

Meh, I think the statistics would a little different. But yeah, does make a little smile on my face.

Depends what you say is educated. People who go to school aren't always smarter than people who don't go, I mean look at the kids who just sit at the back of the class sleeping, not caring.

But what you forget is that some sleepers are actually gifted children not getting challenged. This just underlines divisions of every sort, race, colour,Religion, etc. It's sad how people make divisions just to make themselves special or to lower someone elses status.

This is true, peace-and-war. I mean, I go to school but I never let schooling get in the way of my education.

a bit off topic maybe, but I dont think thats really fair, I was in honors/Advanced Placement classes for 6 years and still slept in the back of the class, and got A+ on all assignments. It was all too easy for me so yeah, I slept when I didnt need to listen to the lectures. You shouldnt class "people sleeping in the back of class" as uneducated or not caring, especially if you don't know them.

    on topic though:

That was quite powerful, made my eyes open I guess you could say, America really is rather lucky, through all the BS our leader puts us through, we still have alot better life quality than alot.

I guess what she meant to say was that not many people around the world are as educated as those mainly who live in MEDC's such as America, Uk and so on...

Now that I look over the statistics, I don't think they are accurate on what it would be like if really you only had a hundred people.
If you include less demand for food, jobs, etc, the results of length of life, health and so on would on average rise I believe.

I'm glad your not boasting, about that grade, Mr A+! : P

That is true, I shouldn't say that not all care, I know some people who do great even if they are half asleep or not concentrating in class, some people just absorb information better than others, a little mystery of life. I really mean to emphasize the 'not caring' bit instead of sleepy, i mean if you don't care about learning, you won't really care if you get an education out of it.
Home-schooled kids can do alot better than people who attend school. It's usually family teaching them and for some reason that seems to give people the ability to concentrate better than at school.

ummm, if your talking about me, i'm a guy actually, but thanks for the compliment! XD
