Oh god let's not make this any worse than it is he already kinda looks like Professor Oak in my head IT WAS AN ACCIDENT I DIDN'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN

I think I might just stick with Pearce for now

Mars is... an interesting thing. Kind of an experiment I'm conducting. I'm trying to see if I can write a person I don't believe could actually exist in reality, and still make him believable and human. I try to craft every character I write with a real, human motive, something that someone out there can relate to. I don't believe there's anyone who will act out of malice for no reason at all, who simply enjoys watching people suffer - but that's kind of how Mars gets started. He's just a shithead from birth: no trauma, no tragic past, just a sly little devil who likes to control people's lives. His only truly relatable motive is the fear of death, which is so universal I'd be writing aliens if I didn't include it.

So yeah, he has a fair bit of personality... but it's more engineered than others. He's a cruel, sadistic monster, and he delights in it every step of the way. I'm curious to see how people will react to him when lined up with the rest of the cast, especially the other villains.

This experiment also influenced his name, which is totally ridiculous and would never exist in reality (If you find me somebody named Mars Rosencrantz it will blow my fucking MIND)

    Are you making those up

The underlined bit is really good to do. Having recently finished a Scriptwriting class where I had my ass kicked for bad writing, you want characters who are actually trying to achieve things for themselves.

Mars also evokes the Roman God of War, which I like.

I am. I was going to say a different name but it sounded too much like Azula.

Aleksander looks silly and sounds like Alexander... why not just have Alexander?
Walther is... odd, especially considering I'm assuming they're related to Aleksander
Zoe Grivas sounds decent, though last name may be a bit close to 'grievous'
Chandler Bryant sounds off. Chandler is a functional but very tame sounding name, though I don't think the name Bryant goes will with anything
Pearce is a better name than Chandler. More versatile
Darcy Nielsen sounds WAY too normal compared to the rest of these
Mars sounds pretty cool, just a tad silly
Aaliyah sounds like a no-name brand version of Aeris

All in all, they're kinda awkward, and seem a bit like they're trying too hard to be meaningful

My first game as him sucked. My second was actually decent.

He just really needs new splash art and an updated model.

Sorry I am just vehemently against constructed names

unless we're getting into some like crazy letter psychology or summat and I don't know enough linguistics for that

That was an accident of sorts. The kids are supposed to have more modern-sounding names, but the only other kids provided for reference are Aleks and Walt, and their names kinda got away from me, haha.

I don't name someone without it meaning something to them. So no, I'm not trying too hard - I'm trying as much as I need to be. If it sounds awk, that just means I haven't found the right one yet. They should be both deliberately selected and pleasant to the ears, or else I'm not satisfied. #Name nazi

But the thing is names DON'T always need an really overt meaning. Like Claire in Final Fantasy, sounds like a normal name but... it really means LIGHTNING DUN DUN DUN

...Let me make sure I have this straight

You're using an example from Final Fantasy XIII to dispute my writing method
