Rant: Sword Art Online

Thing is, I don't dislike it. In fact it was moderately enjoyable. Thing is, I seem to be the only member of my friend group who honestly doesn't think it's that special. I rated it a 7/10, and that was being generous after the genuinely bad season 2, where I thought of rating the whole series at that point as a 5/10. I just don't see how people can possibly rate it 9/10 or even 10/10, but to each his own I guess. It just didn't have much oomph for me, and it being the most overrated anime I've seen in a long ass time didn't help.

 

This is like a milder version of how I felt after watching the first two episodes of Darker Than Black

Like I couldn't be seen in public without someone yelling at me to watch it and it just... wasn't... good... at all...

In fact the same thing happened to me with Eden of the East and Madoka and it's also the reason I'm reluctant to watch Steins;Gate

 

Overhype leaves a bitter taste.

 

I actually enjoyed Darker Than Black quite a bit. Not perfect, but a lot more enjoyable than Sword Art for me...but I've been advised to stay away from the second season.

 

I was just mad because everyone was like IZ GOT TEH ACTIONS and the first episode was literally him helping an old woman with her groceries. Riveting. And in the second one he electrocutes a dude and then it's over. Wtf.

 

Well, there are a lot more action scenes as it goes, and I actually liked the protagonist. I think it's worth a watch.

I just wish people would stop hyping the shit out of every anime that's good. There's a clear difference between how much I enjoy an 8/10 like Darker Than Black and a 10/10 like Gurren Lagann, but I won't force either down someone's throat.

 

I don't even get that. Like why people feel the need to do that, unless they just really want someone to talk to about it. Then again, my absolute favorite anime is based purely on nostalgia factor and I'd only actually rate it a 7/10 or so. Tbh second place is probably much more deserving and might truly be a perfect 10.

I've also gotten pretty used to having no one to talk to about the things I like most since only I like them creycrey
