As a Native American, Mexican-American, Russian, and Spanish mixture, I get picked on constantly by my white friends and peers. They call me "wetback" "field worker" "field slave" "minority" and tell me to go "mow the lawn" "stick to making burritos" "get back to the field" and more.
I've also been told I look Asian or Filipino, so people call me "*****" and "Asian *******" and other things of that sort.
As a Californian, I know there's a lot more racism down south and that there are a lot of Mexicans and Hispanics in my state due to its origins.
But is this necessary ? There are students in my school that are African-American, Asian, and Mexican that always get made fun of. People say they "jumped the border" and spit racial slurs at them, calling them the "n" word, "black b1tches", and "Chinese-looking-*******s"Nothing is done about it. There is a stop bullying club in my school, but the bullying continues to grow worse. What do you think of this ?

First, I thought 'That's it, I'm going to go murder them'
Secondly, alert the principal. That's like the best way to solve a bullying problem

That really does suck. I feel your pain. As a Muslim and an Arab-American, it pisses me off when people like me are called "sand ******s" and "****in' terrorists"

I don't know if this is a personal problem or what, but you did put it in the Discussion section, so I will discuss.

I've had lots of racial slurs thrown my way too, but I think that if you live in the United States, it's a pretty common part of life. I'm not saying that racism doesn't occur in other countries and parts of the world, but it's extremely prominent here, especially around the area where I live.

Personally, I think that inside, no matter how not-racist you are, everyone has a little bit of racist in them, I won't deny that I don't. I also have a penchant for making racist jokes and no one ever really gets offended by them. Racism being a problem itself, well, that depends on the people you are around.

If it bothers you, do something about it, then don't sweat it.

Now that we've got that out of the way, I think racism would be far less prominent as it is if culture as a whole stopped making a big deal about it. Humans have diversity, and it's about time we got over it, but instead cultures seem to blow the minor things way out of proportion. Even the slightest mention of race winds up being called out, and nobody is even sure how we're supposed to refer to somebody of a different skin tone anymore. A word, on it's own, should never be offensive, only the intent behind it should. Jokes should be treated as jokes, verbal abuse should be treated as verbal abuse.
As for the major things, the attacks etc, they're violent crimes like any other. I'm not really sure that special treatment should be given towards it on either side of the scale.
Blarg, I feel like most of this isn't going to make much sense to people.

Wow, I would seriously re-evaluate your friendships if they're saying those things to you...

I would not consider myself a racist person, my mother can be... prejudiced, and I like to think that it hasn't had an effect on me, growing up in that environment, but that may be hopeful. Still, I often rebuke her for some of her comments and judgements. I've never faced racism myself but I'm also white so go figure, hah.

I do sometimes make racist jokes to friends but it's all in good fun, I know which ones can be messed with about it and which can't. I do think some people take things a little too seriously (both in telling jokes and in taking them), but if I ever offended anyone I would apologize profusely. :c

those people are just being jerks and being immature. i know it's hard, but you kind of have to learn to ignore those kinds of comments. you also have to be careful not to fall into the trap of thinking everyone is like that because an overwhelming majority of people aren't like that. you can't let that skew your view of the world and think everyone is out to get you. try to take it all in stride unless it's done in a way that can't be ignored (like if it goes beyond insults and into something like a burning cross or physical assault).
