So Steam is having some really great sales at the moment and I had a question about some stuff. I only got steam last month and got some games through the humble indie bundle and those games work fine, but that leads to my question. If I got a game like fallout 3 or Skyrim on there, is there any drm I should worry about and would it work just like any other games on steam. Also when buying games through steam, can I just pay the actual amount through paypal or do I have to put in random amounts.
You have to put in cash into your Steam wallet, which you can do with your Paypal account. The minimum you can put into is is 5 dollars. You will have left over cents whenever you buy something. It's pretty annoying.
Steam is pretty much DRM free. As long as the game is downloaded to your computer, you can play it as much as you want under any circumstances you want. I'd especially suggest getting Skyrim since you'll have the entire Steam Workshop filled with free mods that add tons of content to the game. End Advertisement You can also pay by credit or debit card if you don't have money in your wallet. And you can also buy money for your wallet at places like Gamestop in amounts of $20 and $50.
Thanks for the info guys, I might buy a couple or dozen games later tonight when I get back from work. Also considering Skyrim is only 30 bucks at the moment. XD
It must be an american thing that wallet jazz, because here I can pay directly with my card or Paypal.
Skyrim requires you to be signed in Steam to play it. If you log out of Steam and don't have an internet connection, you can't play it. This is standard for most Steam games. There are also other games like Max Payne III and Ano 2070 that can have as much as three forms of DRM including Steamworks.
Of course it's only easier if you already have money in your wallet. Besides, the money you add is on a 1:1 scale. There's nothing lost in the transaction. If there's one day when you have a bit of extra cash that could be put to good use on Steam, you can put it in the wallet and have a set amount. It's also a nice way of giving gifts to Steam gamers. Since Gamestop sells those Steam Vouchers, you can just get that instead of some other kind of gift card that might not be as useful. Overall, I like it. Really? I've played Skyrim in offline mode on Steam and it's worked just fine. Only difference is that my mods won't automatically update.
