Exactly. Even though methods of "goodness" may vary, they all have the same effect - a life that, hopefully, hurts no one.

Pretty much the only people who think that (no matter what view of "good" we rely on), are people who have had twisted childhoods, traumatic events happen to them, or mental diseases (like insanity).

    kk, serious mode:

Your definition of good is by not commiting any of the 7 sins. Many people don't believe in that. I'm an athiest, so I don't give a **** about that nor I do not consider myself a "sinner" because sin is just created to get people to conform to Christianity so they won't go to hell. For me, goodness is to help others, like to give to charity, and be a good friend.

See, Rainbow~Monkey? People can be good without believing in EXACTLY what you do. It's called "tolerance" - accepting others, and having them accept you. Despite what fantasy or whatever you read, 99% or greater of the people on Earth either are genuinely good, or believe they are. If they didn't, society would fall apart. Society exists, thus, people are not as evil as you tend to think.

And I'm saying that they already ARE good, so there is no need for them to wish to be better.

And why did you call me billy?

Good and evil are subjective. Everyone's idea of good and evil is different therefore it is not possible for any two people to be good in exactly the same way. I may think that choosing a blue car is good and someone else may think that choosing a red car is good. Neither is technically "right" but both of us believe that we are right. There is a big difference.

I was referring to "good" in a larger sense - when someone doesn't go around killing people, robbing them, and eating their corpses (warning: hyperbole), I call him good. You know, the big issues, not small, individual choices. Laws, and so forth.

if you dont want to be good cuz you think you dont need to thats all you have to say, you dont have to go around saying "R~M im good. i dont need to change just because you think blah blah blah isn't good, blah blah blah"
all i wanted to know is if you felt like how i felt. i m sorry for calling you billy, i call people that,....

I know xD There are certain things that large numbers of people can agree on as being "good" but it doesn't change the fact that not every sees that particular thing as "good".

Hey, how about you quit being a bigot. I know it's probably what you were taught all your life, but maybe it's time you realized that perhaps it isn't true (not to be condescending or anything). Not saying it's false or anything, but you could at least acknowledge the possiblity.

Quoted for emphasis. Not everyone believes what you believe. If we did, life would be a LOT more boring, and we would not have a great many of the advances that we have now. A great many of history's greatest inventors were not Christian.

For instance, Albert Einstein was NOT Christian. He was often referred to as a non-practicing Jew. Many of the original American settlers were exiled from their homes or left willingly for wanting to break away from the catholic church. Most of the Founding Fathers were, at best, Deists, which means they believed in a God, but not necessarily everything else. In addition, I don't think you can call any of the earliest scientists, the Greeks, Christian, as Christianity had not been invented yet. That's right - Christians have not always existed.

So only people who believe in God are admitted to Heaven, regardless of how "good" (as you so vaguely describe it) they have been to other people? That's pretty sick. Nevertheless, I cracked up. :)
I'd love to see you in a religious discussion against Bunterx by the way. My guess is that he'll eat you alive. ;)

I constintly push myself to become a better person. Im an atheist but I kind of get what Rainbow~Monkey is getting at though I wouldnt go so far to say I am pure.

I try to be good and sometimes I walk away from a situation wishing I handeled it differently. so I do try to be good but theres always room for improvement.

I'm an atheist, and I don't believe in nothing. I believe in science and evidence. If I can measure it in some way, then I'll believe it.
