Its sad to see that the music has changed. Its not that these bands that changed their style or anything like that, its bands that came onto the scene claiming to be punk have ruined it. You see things like Warped Tour which use to be the biggest punk rock fest ever I use to love going to it. But then it all changed when groups like fall out boy joined that group and it was never the same again. *tear*

And norweigian rappers eh. Gimme some artist names or links.

I like SOME rap, I really didn't mean to say I hate it. But yeah, I do listen to some, but I forgot the names. I think one song was called, 'I tried' that song was good. I hate the songs that only sing about sex and prostitutes, like soulja boy. If people really actually listened to the song crank it, by souldja boy, then they would see how nasty it is. It has stuff like, 'super soak', 'in that hoe', and 'super man that hoe' I wonder how much money they had to pay marvel to use the name super man in it.

    WOWWW

    You people have it off.
Punk is not dead, it just isn't sociably acceptable.
    EMO is dead.

Punk still exisist, like I said, bands like Cheap Sex and Rancid are still able to keep it alive, just not that well.
    Cause, well, punk rock sucks.

Emo, is dead, emo died in 2004 when The Get Up Kids broke up.
I have yet to see anyone on here actually listen to emo, real, real emo.

Also, emo was a sub-genre for a few years, but soon became something much bigger then that.
It branched off from punk rock, talking about personal lyrics.
It started with emocore, which was just hardcore punk with emo lyrics.
Minor Threat influenced Rites of Springs, which was the first real emo band.
Overtime it became poppier and into something all it's own.
The Get Up kids, Mineral, At The Drive-In are all emo bands.

MCR, Panic! at the disco, fall out boy, etc. That is what I call scenecore and power pop.
And for the record, Funeral for a Friend and Halifax are FARRRRRR from Punk, and they always will be.
The day Halifax learn to yell, not scream, yell, they will be making one step foward.

Just thought I'd let you all know because, I'm aware I'm being an arrogant a**hole, but I really can't tollerate musical ignorance.

Well since someone mentioned rap, I think I should put my penny in if it's worth anything.

Rap's amazing. People have to look past the bull**** and actually understand the words. I know many rockers that dislike rap, but when it comes to some rap...they enjoy it quite a lot. Eminem is a fave to many, most of his songs aren't pure money, cars, and ***** banging. I used to listen to 50 cent, but most of his songs are pure **** now tbh.

T.I and Kanye West are great. So is Lupe Fiasco (Never Lies ftw).

The thing is, people hear one or two songs and they judge rap. I'm not saying this is only on rap. It happens with music in general. Suppose a newcomer who wanted to get into rock and metal. Turn on Slipknot, it won't ****ing help him. All he'll hear is bass smashing and cymbals firing out. Don't think he'll listen to that genre again. You can't judge music by just looking through a song =\ But we can't help that, that's the people themselves to decide.

Once again though what are you calling punk, cause I still refer to punk as the older style of punk. These bands now that call themselves punk are just pop bands and very little about them is punk.

And Split is completely right here. Most people will only judge rap on sterotypical songs they hear on the radio and then refuse to go any deeper into going to listen to it. Which everyone does to one genre or another, hell I do it with country music. Alot of stuff that we will here on the radio are total bull****, but go listen to other things that are not an really you will be pleasantly surprised, even if you can't relate to it. Such as Public Service Announcement by Jay-Z. Great song, but has nothing to do with being hard at all.

I never considered punk bands as emo, but I know several people who do...'emo' has become a completely, untrue stereotype...'emo' was supposed to mean someone's who emotional, sometimes suicidal, but now, it's just someone who wears a lot of black...

In my opinion punk has died out and has been switched to ' alternative '

everyone usually refers to it as ' emo'

    like:
    paramore
    fallout boy
    my chemical romance <3
    linkin park
    panic at the disco

    ETC...

Love how you used Nightwish like they are the same as MCR. XD Nightwish are not or never have been assiocated with Punk. XD They are nothing like it, they are a metal band.

Most of those list I don't consider emo nor are they emo, =/ Like Blink, never once have I seen people go "oh their emo" I'm glad that emo is dying, though I like some bands that are assocated with the sub-genre I'm sick of all the good bands that are being categorised as emo and then being hated and bashed for something the media automatically classed them as. There aren't many true emo bands.

As on the topic of punk I don't think it's turned emo, it's true that true punk is dead, but the current punk is nothing like emo. =/

Though there is one true punk band out there they are called "Gallows".

lol, I remember once I was listening to the new type of punk music, ugh 'emo pop' in a way, that's what Rahpsody says -_- anyway yeah, my dad says, you want to listen to real punk? Then I nodded, kinda weirdly though. He turned it on, then I was pretending to like it. Sorry for all the people that like old punk.

    Holy ****ing ****,

excuse my langauge but you people REALLY don't get it.

    Shut up, all of you.
Read "Nothing feels Good:Punk Rock, Teenagers and Emo"
    THEN, continue with this subject.

It's honestly pissing me off how far you people are from the actual thing.
Punk rock has no meaning and bands like MCR and Paramore are not Punk as I stated.
Punk rock is Anon and socially unacceptable. No band, ever, EVER that has been on tv or on a major label is punk rock.
Yes, that's right. Punk is strict as ****.

    As for emo.
It was NEVER, EVER about being emotional or suicidal or any of that pansy ****.
    Emo is DEAD.
And it will never come back. Ever.

Emo was not being emotional, it was about growing up.
Emo was the side punk rock never took the time to cultivate.
Emo was about discovering who you are, discovering the obstacles of growing up.
Wether they be girls or fist fights, emo is about being a teenager.
The state of mind you're in before you start thinking about the big picture.

In other words, emo was the perfect genre up until 2000 when bands like Mcr and Fall Out Boy were starting and completely tarnishing the image and sound of emo.
The band(s) with the closest idea of emo is Brand New and Taking Back Sunday.
Listening to Soco Ammeretto Lime is the closest to teeange adolesence one can get to.
It basically summed emo up in a small little ball and gave you an acoustic guitar.
The fist fights, the girlfriends, the break ups, the existentialistic nights and growing up.
Getting drunk and getting sober. Traveling and coming to realize who you are.
    That's what emo is about.
And it seems that everyone has forgotten that.

I'm pretty sure Ian mackaye is in tears right now.
    And Blake Schwarzenbach is cringing.
Imagine how Jeremy Ignik feels when he hears Paramore.
Lucky for the Kinsella brothers, they're still both making music.

Rites of Spring would be ashamed.

    Gallows is a hardcore band.
    I'm sorry.

    >:D okay, kids that are too depressed, and can't figure things out for themselves, and cut them selves, or do anything that has to do with 'hurt' to get a person(s) attention.

No that is just called being a panzy and not taking responsibility for their own life and wanting to blame others, or people who want attention. If they were going to do something they would.

And honestly this guy is right, Soco Amaretto Lime is a true song about what the struggles of teenage life are, and as hard as it is to say that is 'good emo music' but I digress. But I can't help but disagree on the fact that all punk is the music that is out of public eye. In the early part of 2000 bands like Rancid, Anti Flag, and The Distillers got more public appeal with out really sacrificing what made punk music punk, and although they will never really people out bands like The Casualties and The Unseen, or heck Minor Threat. So their is punk music has died out which is sad to see, but bands that claim punk are just Pop Rock in my eyes compared to these bands. As I state again, the definition of punk has changed which blow but whatever.
