Okay, I'm sharing my opions with everyone. People say that new punk bands are emo, but if you listen to them, their nothing like them. These are some of my favorite punk songs: Sydny, by Halifax. All the rage, by Funeral for a freind. Hey italy, by Halifax. And machine, by funeral for a freind. They both are two of my favorites bands. Look up Sydny by Halifax on youtube, and tell me what you think.

From what I've heard, true punk music died out a long time ago. Yes, it may be a bit of a generalization to consider those bands 'emo', but look at what emo has turned into. A band is now considered emo if they constantly wear black and have guyliner. I think that emo is a sub-genre; they can still be punk and be emo. To me, emo is in the lyrics. If a band wears black head to foot but sings about jumping through fields of flowers and riding rainbows then no, I won't consider them emo. But if they're constantly singing about loss and not being understood then it's emo.

So considering that I grew up listening to punk music, I can easily say it has died out and become emo, and my heart breaks to say that. But I come from a time when punk rock, was actually punk rock. None of this crap MCR or Nightwish crap they are passing off as punk. I mean the good ol' days of Rancid, Anti-Flag, The Casualties, MXPX, The Unseen. Those were true punk rock bands who didn't just sing about how a girl broke his heart crap. They sang about actual crap that mattered, like Anti-Flag for instance, out of honor I have to listen to Die for Your Government once a day just so I don't forget what punk rock really is. Punk rock has been replaced with emo bullcrap and I am sad to say that cause I am a kid who grew up listening to real punk rock. What the industry has turned it into is just a case full of suck.

I love it when people call other music 'bullcrap' because its not the stuff they like.

Haven't heard any of the old punk stuff you listed up there ^

And i have never heard MCR being passed off as punk, they have always been emo on sites and tv.

Well, yeah, I guess what the punk music I listen to is new. They are considered a emo pop group, which is punk NOW. Sorry, but yeah, new punk isn't called punk rock, it's just punk. Punk now means emo, but I doubt that these bands are emo, I mean, I really don't hear anything 'emo' about these bands. Seriously, to say the truth, I don't even think there is a real definition for the term 'emo'.

The lyrics are what makes a band emo. Majority of the punk bands are nowhere alike.

Which is wierd, considering they're not "emo." I consider them rock-pop-punk-alternative (I didn't make up that genre, what're you, crazy?). Emo is basically a title that people who don't listen to them/people who hate them gave to MCR, but this title is completely unjustified.

people are stupid. i hear people call blink 182 emo cause the played punk rock?
emo is like a state of mind i guess. if you wear all black that means nothing, it's only a color. but if you act like you alone and you always say stuff like "i'm better off dead" or "noone would miss me" that what emo is.

    bands like...

    1) fall out boy
    2) cute is what we aim for
    2) green day
    3) blink 182
    4) plus 44
    5) sum 41
    6) paramore

they are all considered emo. but i guess they are considered that since emo is the new word for "punk rock"

Here is where the line begins to blur is with music. Now I am a bit older than many of you, so when I was your age i listen to a different form of punk rock. And Blink 182 was included more along a rock/alt. but it was a different kind of from what they have become today. When I talk about MCR all I ever hear about them or from their music is that of a depressing tone in the music which is not why I personally listen to them. And I believe it is quite justified because any popular MCR song that has came out has just been a end my life because of a girl type of song. Now I know they have much more talent then me, so I don't say they are uncreative hacks or anything, just not a band I can get into. The thing is really is that the definition of punk rock has changed alot over the years, we went from bands like Rancid (who is amazing) to bands like Fall Out Boy who are just making music for the masses. Where as you don't hear about alot of older punk bands because they were not out there in the spot light, music was about music back then and now the industry is all messed up.

Considering there are actually types of punk/rock it's different.
Each band have their different style. And times change so what used to be is definitelt not the same anymore. But I wouldn't say that to many punk/rock bands have become emo, then I'd by lying.

Times change, and so does music.

like most people have already said, Punk Music died a long time ago. We now have some wannabe crap people call music. Trust me, Fall Out Boy is NOT punk, and isn't even close. Most people who call these bands emo are people who have never heard EMO music before, OR anything ROCK whatsoever. Like my friends, I love them, but they always say that my music sucks. Well, to bad.

Face it, Eye Liner, and Emo clothes are a fad.

But I have to admit, I like MCR, and a lot of other bands like Sum 41, Hedley, Billy Talent, but they aren't emo.

And do you mean Sydney by Halifax? I've heard it before.

I also agree with Misty about the lyrics.

That is pretty much true, well minus that punk rock is dead thing. Punk rock will never die. But alot of bands that claim a punk rock sound don't sound a thing like it, because unforunatly music did change and in my opinion for the worst, which really sucks to be honest cause I miss the good days of music.

And with the bands that you listed, true they are not emo, but for people to categorize them as punk rock bands, is BS to me cause I don't hear a bit of punk sound in them at all, considering they make music for the radio.

I love rap, I don't know why so many people hate it on this site. Honestly there are like 3 people who actually listen to it, which saddens me. But I will blame that on a lack of them going deeper into the music and judging it on what they hear on the radio.

Yeah. I should have wrote changed instead of died.

Anyways, rap is amazing. There are actually many artists that talk about their REAL hardships, no, and I do NOT mean 50 Cent, since he sucks.

You should try listening to Rap artists like Lupe Fiasco, Immortal Technique, Classified, etc. Don't judge because of 50 Cent, since a lot of people do. Kanye West isn't bad either. His lyrics are amazing, I have his new CD, its really good.

You also forget Jay-Z and Sweatshop Union.

But either way, yea people judge rap to easliy by whats on the radio instead of listening to it for what it really is.

Try Jay-Z's new CD, its brilliant.

Well I wouldn't say don't completely cause alot of stuff like that is good to indulge in. Every now and then I pop in T.I. and dance. Especially since alot of them come up with amazing beats to put behind the music. Which is probably the number one reason.

I like some norwegian rap, yeah it's a small country but there are some extremely good rappers there. Sure there are a lot of good rappers all over the world to.

And I still stand by what I said about punk/rock.
