Update- the hackers offer to sell Sony the untouched credit cards numbers (Which are now 100% confirmed to be unencrypted, thanks for the lie Sony) for a price- and they refuse.

Yep, Sony clearly cares about your information.

As if I thought the hype couldn't build up any more. This is going to blow up in their faces big time.

Are you joking? If you are handling someone else's credit card number, and you screw up, and you are given an opportunity to get it back, refusing is nothing but a statement of arrogant pride, disregard, and lack of respect for their customer's information.

    Watch the lawsuits pour in.

Unless Sony are thinking that the hackers won't actually hold to their end of the deal and then they'd have credit card numbers and a large sum of cash from Sony.

Well... If hackers really are taking credit card info, then if they get ahold of my dad's, I'm screwed. Man PSN, you better hope you've not cost me my life.

i don't know why you say that. i mean, even if these people who claim to be selling the credit card information are for real, and Sony DID buy it back, what's to stop the hackers from further selling the information? i actually think it's smart that they didn't buy it back because there's no real evidence that they even have anything since ANYBODY on the internet can claim to be selling the credit card information. one conflicting information i saw on this rumor was that the sellers claimed to have the CCV2 numbers but according to Sony, those aren't even stored on their databases.

To my understanding it was 2.2 million credit card details for $100k. That's awfully cheap. They could sell those cards and get so much more. Unless, of course, they know that everyone that has used their credit card on the psn store has either cancelled or are watching their accounts very closely. If any money disappeared from their account the bank would not charge the customer for it. That's already been stated.

I don't see why Sony should've paid the cash for it. There is no guarantee that the hackers would keep their side of the deal. Besides, if they gave the hackers the money what would stop other hackers from doing the same?

Yup, I am pretty sure all of them will have some text files (un)locked in their computers just in case they run out of money.

Why that source doesn't seem biased at all! Kotaku is actually more believable than them, that's a sentence I've never used for Kotaku.

I will give you 75$ for the moon! I want that thing right now. I'd put it right on my coffee table

    This Bites

It sucks because now I think if they have your address and what not(I mean if you put it on there) doesn't that mean that they could still take your credit card information? Not only that that also means bank accounts and all that jazz. So from the moment I heard it got hacked and people talking about the credit card info. I look on my gmail and for my Sony America I got yesterday. It went on to say the credit card thing is false and how the systems got hacked all that. But for my Sony Japan thing(Since I brought mine imported.) I got one saying be warned your credit card info is in danger. Even my friends Uncle who works for Sony Japn gave me a heads up about what's going down. This is really bad since I belive 85% of the people where I live have PS3 man this bites.

Can everyone please stop ripping on Sony in this thread. I'm not a fanboy by any means, but come one, this could have happened to any one of the 4 companies (including Valve and Steam ... although I doubt it), and they would have done been able to do anything either.

Anyways, I don't use a credit card, just a debit card. Good luck draining that hackers ... that is if you even have that information.

I am just saying the comment I made before hand didn't say that it was all Sony's fault I was merely saying the way people are taking this their reputation is going to suffer because of all of these outrages.

    and

Sony's reputation has been dwindling for some time now and I doubt it'll pick up anytime soon, but it'll pick up eventually once they sort themselves out.
