My PS3 hard drive is pretty much full, so I'm needing an upgrade. I'm wanting to upgrade the internal hard drive to something a lot bigger (I have the 80GB version).

I'm thinking about getting this one but I'll take recommendations.

What I would really like is a HDD that has lots of memory and fast access.

Also, I'd like to hear if anyone has had any experience with changing the hard drive and if there's any problems that may occur in doing so.

    Cheers me dears.

Upgrading the ps3's drive isn't hard. The only things you need is a hard drive and a couple of screwdrivers.
The hard drive is a particular type of drives, like the ones in laptops. Which is a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive. Bigger ones won't fit. 5400-RPM and 7200-RPM drives will do fine, but they say 5400 ones are better for the job. About the size, dont be afraid to go big, since you wont be upgrading the drive every Sunday.

About the screwdrivers, you need a precision phillips screwdriver No. 0 x 2-1/2" to unscrew that blue screw to get the drive out. And a normal screwdriver for the other screws.

Before you replace them though make sure you have backuped the files from the old one to some usb flash drive, like games or game saves, cause unfortunately you cant have both drives simultanously.

A seagate or western digital type of drive is good choice.

Sorry that this post is a little messed up. The links have instructions, details and pictures. I myself have no experience with this type of upgrade, but as long you keep your hands of your hands off the electric socket and dont cut with the knife the green wire, it's all ok.
If you have any problems or questions ask and probably me or someone else will help.

Thanks for that, but I awready know how to change the hard drive. What I was really looking for was for people's experience with their hard drives and if they had any problems. I've heard there have been certain models that cause games to stutter and such.

    Sorry for the late reply.

It seems that Western Digital drives, or Samsung, are the best ones to go twith when upgrading.
The problems you are reffering to are possible idling from the hard drive that causes game freezes, as explained in the quote below. There is a solution to that, but you will see it's not very simple. But in the case you upgrade and have those problems, just know that you can fix it lol.
This problem is said to occur in some WD drives, like the Scorpion Blue, but on the contrary, there are others who say that it's working like a charm for them.
I cannot guarantee you what will work and what will not. But if you want to upgrade, then don't hold back. If it works, then awesome. If it has problems, and if in the worst case scenario it just doesn't work, then ok. Just the fact that it might not be working shouldn't stop you from upgrading, that risk is always there. Any 2.5", 5400 RPM 8MB cache will do, it's just how lucky you are xD To raise your chances, you buy a drive from a good brand, like WD or Samsung, and the rest is luck. And as I mentioned, some problems can also be fixed.
Just my opinion, I dunno if it helped or made things worse. :P
Btw, below the quote (which you won't be needing for any other reason than informational purposes -for now-) there is some important news that you must read.

The new FW update (3.56) is blocking most models drive upgrade (if you've done it before the update, there's no problem). It will probably be patched in the next days or so, but if you're thinking on upgrading to a better drive, you better not do it now (if you already updated your PS3 to 3.56) and wait until this firmware issue is solved.
