PS3 is essentially Fort Knox. Nearly impenetrable. Until now, it seems.

The guy's not giving details, so how can we be sure he actually hacked the PS3 and isn't full of hot air?

This is great news for homebrew scene, but pirates are being fooled by this.
A iso loader will not come from this.

Looks like he whacked it a few times and melted it's case off. I'm not really sure whether hacking it is a good thing or not considering where I stand on this kind of thing xD

Wow, look at that hardware, not only is it hacked, it's fashionable too!

Well, PS4's on the horizon, and if it's anything like it's predecessor, we're gonna need some extra time off work, boys.

Never would have guessed that it would take over 3 years to finally hack the PS3. I wonder what kind of homebrew apps they are going to make for the PS3. I know that there isn't going to be an iso loader for a while since nobody wants to download those huge bluray isos.

    eh, no?
This generation has only just started (for sony atleast), there is so much untapped potential in the PS3.

Its not a matter of not wanting to DL it, its for technical reasons.
    PS3 uses FAT32, that max's out a 4gb.
Since about 95% of PS3 games exceed 4gb, they wont work.

As for homebrew, im looking forward to cheat devices and N64 & SNES emulator. But, that's gonna be awhile before the scene gets that far.

Its not a waste of effort.
Once the door is open its damn near impossible to close it.
(look at the psp & xbox 360)

I second this. This is an amazing breakthrough for gamers and hackers alike.

Isn't kind of a waste though? I mean downloading 50GB of data of MGS4 is pretty time consuming anyway. I don't even think it was worth hacking the system anyway.

It was a challenge for him, a tick beside his name. Something to show prospective employers. Hackers do it for the glory.

More practically, this means that homebrew can be used. Ergo, a cheat system can be installed. Trophies are now in great danger, as are many of the smaller games on the PSN.

To be honest I don't see why you'd want to hack it anyway, there's no much effort put into not getting money to not pay for games.

More can come from this than just piracy.
Such as a cheat device, playing music during gameplay (Im really wanting this), full linux access (basically if linux has full access to ps3 you'll basically have another computer), etc.

But this also has a downside, im very sure sony will do what microsoft did and start banning psn for people with hacked ps3's.

There are more things that you can do instead of playing downloaded games. They are probably going to make alot of homebrew apps for things such as emulating other systems and a media player that supports most file types and codecs. There is alot of potential with a hacked PS3.

It seems worth it in some ways, but I'm not overexcited for it seeing as I'm for the conscious part a law abiding citizen. Most I see myself getting out of this is doubling it as a second PC or emulating some older titles.

That's fine, because piracy will be difficult on this due to the large file sizes.

Cheat devices? How about folk actually play a game. They take a lot of the fun out of it.

Video game systems are getting so huge in terms of disc/OS space, I really don't think hacking is worth it unless you simply want the glory of conquering the Platform's security. I mean with N64, Gamecube, PS2, XBOX... it was pretty easy because not all the games and information was that big. Now it takes 3 years. I really don't think any hacker can possibly get glory from this. It sounds like a huge waste, TBH.

But then again, I don't really hack. Nor do I care to do it unless I want something specific... XD

Focus on making the PS3 Region Free for Blu-Ray movies and I'll be one happy camper.
