Implemented Profile Picture File Size Limit

Would it be possible to raise the profile picture file size limit?

The file size limit for Profile Pictures is much lower than the avatar limit, yet the dimensions for Profile Pictures are larger by a considerable amount. It's a bit silly.

Since the file size for avatars is 234.4 KB, maybe profile pictures could be raised to 350 KB?

 

That has always bothered me, too. It's the same on several sites.

I can't think of a major downside to increasing it.

 

I say we just make both 1MB <.>

 

Why on earth would you need a 1MB 150x150 image, let alone 100x100?

Besides wouldnt you rather have more than you need than want more than you have? Be prepared man.

 

The maximum size for gifs in signatures is 500kb. I don't see why they would make avatars even larger than that.

 

That's step 2. 10MB signature limit.

The chances of staff approving anything higher than their current standards is low. Though with signatures you have to wonder why the limit is there since it won't slow down their servers.

That still applies today. 10MB gifs would definitely slow a lot of people down.

 

Almost 24 hours without a single word from the staff in this thread, that's worrying in a whole general sense of the word.

 

I highly doubt this, but I did make a point about posting here being only effective as an appeal to them so maybe they decided to send out a memo.

This is definitely new to me.

 

Usually expect a stop in from a purple or blue though to set things right in the sense of capabilities of the staff, or the heights they wish to go with certain forum features.

 

Back on topic, I think a reasonable 1MB limit on everything is acceptable and that Profile Pictures should get at least as much as stated in the OP.

 

Sincerest apologies guys, unfortunately other things in life take precedent over profile picture file sizes. 8) Next time a suggestion seems to have gone unanswered, though, it would be best to contact a staff member rather than spam the thread.

Avatar limits are adequate I believe, and if you find it's small, you get an increase with Premium membership. Signature size limits of 500px by 500px are to prevent page stretching, and the gif limit is to be courteous towards those with slower connections. I've increased the profile picture limit to the suggested 350--as for the rest, I could see going up to 1MB for gifs, but I don't think avatars require anything near that--if your 150px or 100px icon is reaching 1MB you should check out how you're saving that image.

I just want to add my support to increase gifs from 500kb to 1MB. My connection is good, but not amazing AND I view 50 posts per page without problems, so I don't think a few larger gifs would do much harm.

my 10MB sigs will come another day.

 

She hasn't accepted the 1MB extension in writing yet.
