Prequels sequels better than the original?

Sometimes, the sequel or the prequel is even better than the original.

My favs would be.

Spider-Man 2
Dark Knight
Godfather 2
X2
Empire Strikes Back
Hellboy 2
Friday the 13th Part 4
The Fly
Bourne Ultimatum

 

It really depends for me.

Usually, whenever I watch a sequel/prequel of a classic Disney film, like Pocahontas or the Lion King, I usually end up hating it because it lost the "magic" that was in the original - the plot becomes stale, the characters don't capture you in the same way, it's just...dull.

However, I do end up loving some sequels, such as Toy Story 3 and the Harry Potter movies, because they added onto the previous films; we see the characters grow as people (or toys, heh) and see them change their world view into something more accepting of taking fate into their own hands.

 

I can't really think of many sequals. There's Matrix Revolutions, Harry Potter movies, Lord of the Rings, and things like that, but that's about it

 

Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) and Son of Paleface (1953) are probably the greatest sequels ever made.

 

It can be either way for me.

For example, the sequel to Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, which is Arc the Lad: End of Darkness, is decent, but nowhere near as good as Twilight of the Spirits.

Kingdom Hearts II is better than Kingdom Hearts (except for Cure / Cura / Curaga using all MP), but Kingdom Hearts is good, too, as in Re:Chain of Memories.
