Simply put, do you practise magic? Do you believe that some can perform magic?
I do believe in magic, and often set charms, curses, seals, etc. I perform seances and read tea leaves. For a few dollars over the summer I read palms. My grandmother and my best friend are Wiccan.
    And you?

Until I experience it firsthand, I just don't believe in it.
All I've seen is on T.V. and, well, that's not exactly trustworthy

My view on this subject is pretty complicated and stems from my Christianity. I understand that a lot of people are going to think of me as ******ed for this post, and I accept that.

While I've not seen it first hand, my stepmother told me that she knew someone who practiced magic when she was in high school. According to her, this person was capable of crazy things. He made pictures move, and could read her mind (apparently he never even once failed to guess the mental image she had in her head). He cursed many people and terrible things happened to them, including car crashes and disease. Of course i don't know whether she was telling the truth or not, she was probably exaggerating, but I've heard many similar accounts.
Anyway, this particular kid had books in weird languages, life-size demon statues in his room, etc.
I believe his magic works. But I don't believe in whatever religion he believed in (I don't know what branch it was). My belief on why his curses and rituals worked is that demons and fallen angels were helping him accomplish these things. Unseen evil forces help him accomplish evil tasks. I believe this because my belief says that the sole purpose of these beings is to make people stray away from Christianity. And if someone was given the power to curse people that they didn't like by the powers of some religion that wasn't Christianity, they'd probably be drawn to it. I don't know what religion this insane kid was a part of, but it sure as Hell wasn't Christianity.
This kid was also trying to get people away from Christianity.
What my stepmother told me was that after she broke up with her boyfriend, this kid talked to her about what was going on.
He asked her, "Do you hate him?"
    She said yes.
He told her, "I can do things to him. I can do awful things to him".
Apparently he took her to his house, showed him his spells and some demonstrations, read her mind, and was able to describe people that he'd never seen before that she had. He told her that it was a voice whispering in his ear telling him these things. He was able to describe where he was at the moment, what clothes he was wearing, and what he could do to him if he placed appropriate curses.
He told her she'd need to denounce her faith. He removed the Cross necklace she was wearing and (I still don't know whether she was telling the truth or not on this one) it spontaneously set on fire in his hands. She ran immediately out of his house and never talked to that kid again.
like i said, I've heard many accounts remarkably similar to this, so i'm led to believe it.

Magic is an exertion of will. It's not calling on some mystical force; it's being that force. If a charm works, it's because you believe it does; if a spell produces an effect, it's because you had faith in that effect. That's not to say it doesn't mean anything; on the contrary, it means everything. Magic is the infinite, untapped power of the mind at work, making the impossible possible. All is based on perception; anything we perceive to be true, is.

Do I practice magic? Yes. I cast spells on myself and others all the time. But I do not limit myself to rituals or charms or seals. I let magic flow into, out of, and throughout me and everyone and everything around me. I can place it in an item; I can summon it with a motion; or I can let it fill my whole consciousness and take the place of my thoughts. There is magic in my fingertips; in my eyes; in my words. In my mind. And I can impart it into anyone I can persuade: to feel what I grasp; to see the wonders I behold; to speak with my conviction. To think of the impossible. That's what magic is to me, and you better believe I practice it.

I'm not a believer. I might have second thoughts when I see it for myself, but I'm more the kind of person who'd go look for a scientific explanation.
I'm sure every psychic, medium or owner of a sixth sense can be unmasked if you disarm his machinations properly, or see the ambiguity of it all.

Making money out something so vague (and not even proven to exist) is not only despicable, it can also be dangerous. If a strong believer gets told that he has good fortune and that he's a sure bet to grow old and wrinkled, he's likely to take risks as he's not gonna die anytime soon anyway. It doesn't take a fortuneteller to see that such behaviour will make his luck turn.
And yes, some people are that stupid.

    Convenient isn't it?

Non-sense, to me. I can't take magic at all seriously, due to the fact of its fictional basis in literature. Also, I really believe that until I witness magic in a visual way, I won't take it for fact of reality.

What I mean by "visual way," is that I want to see it, not feel it, or hear it for that matter.

Meh. I don't really believe in magic, but I understand the concept alot.
Mental focus on what you want to happen can actually be very effective, the focus of not feeling pain, of wanting to achieve a dream and more.

The casting of spells and curses? I don't believe, but I can be proven wrong.

To tell the truth i've done Palm readings and and alot Tarot card readings. I like this type of magic since it's all about interpretation.

The capacity of our mind can't comprehend everything by sight alone. We know the wind is there because we feel it wisp through our fingers. We know our heart is in our chests because we can feel it beat and beat. We can not see warmth or cold, but only feel it.
Magic could be one of those possibilties that visual confirmation could be impossible.

This actualy is my religion but I believe more in the flow of spiritual energy running through us and nature. That nature feeds off this nature and sends it out flowing though us. There are books written by a lady named Michelle Belanger, a world renowned psychic vampyre. Psychic vampyre can feed off this energy, may it be spirits or you guys. Taking too much can result in injury and taking too little can be harmful.

Well, I'm Wiccan, and while I practice magic in a sense, it's really about the flow and balance of energy. When I do practice any sort of spells, it's sually when I know there's a balance in the elements, and when I'm practicing in a large group (like with my buds back home in our circle).

Never mind the fact that I'm so out of practice right now that I don't think I could perform a simple healing spell without having to consult one of my books. That's how rusty I've gotten; that, and half the stuff I need is banned from the college dorms (candles, incense). I've tried to cheat using multi-colored flashlights; not the same.

They say you have to practice or something. I've seen a website where it shows exercises to practice seeing auras, but due to the ambiguity of the whole subject, I can't really say this works.

Not only that, most tarot and palm reading requires cold-reading, and that's no power, aside from detailed perception.

I myself do not practice, and certainly have my doubts about this. Why is everything so veiled? Why is it so secretive that no form of magic has at least been explained scientifically?

I do believe that people may be able to tap into some power. What is that power? Who knows.

Ummm...I think magic can be depicted by one's religion...but I haven't seen any real evidence for proof that it works.

I know what cold reading is, and it's nothing supernatural. Nor does it have anything to do with "seeing auras" in the traditional sense of the word.
Cold reading is detailed perception coupled with manipulating your client into giving information without him even being aware of it.

    Sounds like politics to me.

And what exactly is the ability to see auras?

It wasn't meant to sound similar though. You ask a question and your client answers but reveals much more than he thinks.
They also do this without asking at all. Notice how a fortuneteller will always try to shake your hand and have a real close look at it to see whether you're wearing a wedding ring. That is also a form of cold reading.

I've always pictured it as seeing some sort of glow around a person, and the colour and intensity of that glow (the "aura") is linked to the mental condition and mood of that person. I'm no expert though.
